On the eastern side of the Star Luo Imperial Capital, standing before a massive manor, Qin Yi gazed at the two words "Qin Manor" inscribed on the plaque.
His heart swelled with a thousand conflicting emotions.
The Qin Clan was a Soul Master clan, and their inherited Martial Soul, the Overlord Dragon Mace, was a high-level Martial Soul. Their strongest member—his father—was a Soul Douluo powerhouse.
Because of these factors, the children of the Qin Clan had always taken pride in their lineage. From this day forward, however, he would make the entire Qin Clan take pride in him, Qin Yi, alone.
Qin Yi took a deep breath and stepped forward.
"Sir, who might you be?"
Facing the guards who stepped up to meet him, he spoke softly, "Please go inside and report that Qin Yi has returned."
"Eldest Young Master? You... are you truly the Eldest Young Master?"
One of the guards spoke with a hint of pleasant surprise, which caught Qin Yi slightly off guard.
He pulled back his hood, revealing a face marked by the passage of time. His features were exceptionally handsome, though the graying at his temples added a sense of weathered experience.
Seeing Qin Yi's face, which bore a striking resemblance to the youth in his memories, the guard—who had served the Qin Manor for a long time—became increasingly certain.
"Eldest Young Master, please come in! This lowly one will report to the Clan Leader immediately." With that, he sprinted into the manor.
Qin Yi shook his head and smiled.
He had been away for approximately thirty years; he hadn't expected anyone to still remember him. He glanced at his three disciples and smiled, choosing not to enter immediately. Instead, he waited patiently at the entrance of his home.
Soon, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed.
A man dressed in pale yellow robes emerged from the main gates, followed by the guard who had gone to report. The man in yellow appeared to be in his thirties, with a tall, lean build and a handsome face very similar to Qin Yi's.
Having held military authority for many years, his demeanor carried an air of stability and solemnity. He was Qin Qiong, the second son of the Qin Clan's Clan Leader, Qin Su.
Though they had been separated for many years, the bond between brothers was deep, and blood was thicker than water. He recognized Qin Yi at a single glance and rushed forward excitedly.
"Big Brother, you've finally returned! Do you know how much Father has missed you all these years?"
Hearing Qin Qiong's words, Qin Yi couldn't help but let out a faint, calm smile.
"Perhaps he only started missing me after I had been gone for many years. When I was home, I brought nothing but shame to the Qin Clan. Perhaps when I first left, he was even secretly glad that the trash who disgraced the clan was finally gone."
As he spoke these words, Qin Yi's face showed no trace of resentment; it seemed he had completely let go of the past. However, how could Qin Qiong not understand his elder brother? He knew how proud of a man Qin Yi had once been.
"Big Brother, I know your heart is still full of indignation, but the Soul Master world has always been this way," Qin Qiong paused slightly, offering a bitter smile.
"As a Soul Master clan, if the son of the Clan Leader has an extremely low Martial Soul aptitude that is far inferior to the average clansman, friction is inevitable."
"Not just our Qin Clan—even the legitimate son of the Clan Leader of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, one of the three upper sects, that 'Grandmaster' Yu Xiaogang... wasn't he the same?"
"Back then, Father advised you to take the path of an ordinary person."
"You could have achieved great things. If you could have become like Chancellor Wei, even Father would have been proud of you. But you insisted on following the path of cultivation. Father had his own difficulties as well."
"Hmph, times have changed. The Star Luo of today is not the same as when Chancellor Wei first arrived at the capital. Even if an ordinary person displays all their talents, it is difficult to stand on equal footing with the Chancellor. This world, in the end, respects strength above all else."
Qin Yi's expression turned solemn as he spoke sternly, "Today, I, Qin Yi, have returned to wash away my past shame. Do you remember what I said when I left?"
"Thirty years on the east bank, thirty years on the west bank; never look down on a youth just because he is poor!"
"I have returned now to fulfill that thirty-year promise. I will prove to the world that I, Qin Yi, am no trash."
"..."
Qin Qiong was rendered speechless.
He could only let out a long sigh.
"Very well, Big Brother. Regardless of the reason, it's enough that you've returned. We brothers haven't seen each other in thirty years. Quick, come inside with me. I'll take you to see Father."
As he spoke, Qin Qiong moved to lead Qin Yi into the manor, but he suddenly noticed the three youths standing beside his brother.
Judging by their faces, they were roughly in their early twenties. Their clothing was plain, suggesting they didn't come from a great clan, but their bearing was remarkably steady.
"Big Brother, these three young brothers are...?" Qin Qiong asked with confusion.
Qin Yi smiled lightly.
"These are my three disciples."
He turned slightly and instructed, "Xiao Tie, Xiao Han, Xiao Yan, greet my younger brother."
Hearing this, the three bowed in unison, "Greetings, General Qin."
"No need for such formality." Qin Qiong nodded.
Though he was pensive, he didn't dwell on it too much and led the four of them into the Qin Manor. Returning to the manor and seeing the familiar yet foreign surroundings filled Qin Yi with nostalgia.
Soon, they arrived at the Qin Clan's main hall. When Qin Yi saw the elderly man sitting at the head of the hall, his eyes flickered with complex emotions. He stepped forward, knelt, and bowed.
"Father, Qin Yi has returned."
Qin Su's hair was streaked with white, but his frame remained robust, and his back was as straight as a spear.
His face was aged, and having held military power for years, he possessed an aura of natural authority even without releasing his pressure as a Soul Douluo. Seeing Qin Yi back home, he was truly happy in his heart, but he did not show it on his face. Instead, he let out a cold snort.
"You finally decided to come back? You've been gone for thirty years—do you still even remember this clan?"
Qin Yi stood up, his tone not yielding an inch.
He took a step forward, his gaze resolute and brave.
"Of course, I remember. Otherwise, I wouldn't have come back. However, as far as the clan is concerned, not everyone necessarily wanted me back. I know that in the hearts of many, Qin Yi is merely the shame of the Qin Clan."
"Big Brother..."
Beside them, Qin Qiong started to speak but stopped.
Why hadn't his brother's temperament changed at all? He was still so stubborn, the spitting image of their father—always locking horns.
Qin Yi's words were like a needle pricking Qin Su's heart.
He knew well the pride in his eldest son's soul; the low aptitude of his Martial Soul was the pain of his life. As a father, he naturally wanted to do everything to protect him and shield him from humiliation.
But faced with a malignant mutation of a Martial Soul that resulted in such low aptitude, he had been powerless. Furthermore, as the Head of the Qin Clan, he could not rely on his authority to show excessive favoritism to his son.
With a secret sigh, Qin Su did not wish to discuss the matter further. He spoke slowly, "We won't mention the past for now. I ask you, now that you've returned, what are your plans? Will you be leaving again?"
"When I left home back then, I said that if I didn't find a way to solve my cultivation problem, I would rather die outside than return to the Qin Clan. Now that I have returned, it is naturally to prove that I, Qin Yi, am not trash."
Qin Yi spoke with soaring spirit.
The day he could finally hold his head high was not far off—how could he not be excited?
"Oh?"
Qin Su didn't quite believe him. He spoke coldly, "Hmph, prove it? How do you intend to prove yourself?"
"What, do you intend to follow in the footsteps of that Yu Xiaogang and publish some 'Martial Soul Theories' in the Soul Master world? If that's the case, I advise you to save your breath! With your Martial Soul aptitude, how much cultivation can you have?"
"What kind of theories could you possibly research? Do you intend to be like Yu Xiaogang—taking common knowledge that even ordinary people know and mixing it with error-riddled nonsense, becoming the laughingstock of the Soul Master world and bringing shame to the clan once again?"
