CHAPTER:9 [Change]
Kai's return from the Void was never mentioned to the public — all thanks to the Association.
"So, he returned… ehh?"
An old man with grey-white hair, narrow eyes, and a frail, skinny body stared out of a square window in a towering building. A man in a black tuxedo stood behind him, reporting the latest matters in a low voice.
The old man spoke with a weak, rasping voice that sounded like it could fade at any moment.
"Make sure to keep an eye on him. No one simply returns from the Void. Also, make sure this doesn't explode to the public. If anyone knows… silence them."
........
The situation never escalated at all because of the Association's interference. In the end, it worked out for the better — Kai didn't want any attention anyway.
"Is that so… me being missing didn't spread at all?" Kai scoffed. "Well, it was for the better since I don't want to attract attention."
Kai sat quietly in the hospital bed beside a man with blonde hair and an angelic face. Reginald had come to visit him, along with a man wearing a bright red jacket and a fierce expression.
"I heard you woke up, so I came to thank you in person. I am truly grateful for what you did for us. Thank you."
Kai smiled and said,
"Oh, don't worry about that. But who is he?"
Kai pointed at the man with the fierce face. The man spoke in a deep and gentle voice.
"I sincerely apologize for my late introduction. I am Joe Hilton, the guildmaster of Star."
Kai asked curiously as he looked at the man with the fierce look,
"May I ask, what the guild master of the top 5th guild is here for?"
The man lowered his head and replied,
"I'm here to ask for your cooperation."
Kai made an educated guess and asked,
"You want me to stay quiet about this matter, don't you?"
The man with the fierce face lowered his head even further and said with an apologetic tone,
"Yes. Even though it was a mistake on our side, we sincerely ask you to please forgive us for endangering your lives."
Kai sighed and said while closing his eyes,
"Hah, don't worry about it. I also don't want to attract attention."
They talked for a while longer until the doctor came in to check on Kai.
"Good afternoon, patient Kai. How are you feeling today?"
The doctor was a woman with simple features and dark black hair.
Kai smiled and said,
"Actually, I'm feeling better than ever today."
The doctor nodded and proceeded to ask the next questions.
"That's great. Now then, patient Kai, I would like to know about how you got those injuries and those unfixable cracks on your body, if you don't mind me asking."
Kai looked at her suspiciously, trying to guess why she was asking, but before he could speak the doctor cut in.
"Oh, please don't pressure yourself if it's hard on you. The thing is, when the awakened who found you brought you to the hospital, I was the only doctor present at that time and it was my first time seeing such wounds and internal injuries, so it was hard to operate the device which healed you. So if you don't mind sharing a bit…"
Kai looked up at the light on the ceiling and said in a daze,
"You won't believe what happened to me, so there is no point in asking."
The doctor gave him a nod and said,
"Perfectly understandable. After all, your survival is considered a miracle at this point."
Kai said, still looking at the light in a daze, his memories horrifying him even by remembering them.
"Yeah… yeah it was… a miracle."
The doctor and Kai talked for a while longer before she said before leaving,
"You are perfectly healthy for now, but I advise you to stay for a few days before taking your discharge in case of a variable."
The doctor then looked at the visitors as she left the room and said,
"You people should leave him now. He needs rest."
They nodded and left. Shino stayed for a while discussing the reward.
"We got extra because of the unprecedented variable. It's enough for both the academy fees and the due rent you have."
Shino patted Kai on the shoulder and left him alone for rest. As Shino left, Kai summoned Nia to inquire about his body situation.

(Then what should I do?)
Nia said with a blank tone,
He did as she said. He relaxed, got discharged from the hospital, paid his rent, and just rested for three and a half months right before the admissions to the academy.
But there was one thing that changed because of what happened in the Void. Where Nia had changed Kai… he could no longer feel regret.
