Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Poisoned Thread and the Scent of War

The morning after the Charity Ball, Li Hua's flagship store on Wangfujing Street should have been celebrating. Instead, the air inside was thick with tension. Li Hua stood in the center of the showroom, her 60kg figure reflected in the floor-to-ceiling mirrors. She looked perfect, but her 'Vogue Vision' was flashing a bright, pulsing red.

[Ding! System Warning: Sabotage Detected.]

[Detection: 50% of the 'Midnight-Gold' inventory has been treated with a caustic chemical. If touched by skin, it will cause a severe allergic reaction.]

Li Hua's eyes went cold. This wasn't just a business rivalry; this was an attempt to destroy her reputation and potentially harm the elite women of the Capital.

"Boss Li!" Old Chen ran in, his face pale. "The shipment for the Minister's wife... there's something wrong. The fabric feels... oily. And the warehouse manager, Xiao Wang... he's vanished."

Xiao Wang. The young man she had promoted from the factory floor. Her first betrayal.

"Don't touch the clothes, Chen," Li Hua commanded, her voice steady. "They've been poisoned with a concentrated dye-stripper. Someone wants my 'Phoenix Rising' brand to be known as 'The Rash of Wangfujing'."

[Ding! Emergency Mission: The Alchemist's Counter-Attack.]

[Goal: Neutralize the chemical and trap the mastermind behind the betrayal. Reward: +50 Business IQ, 'Global Connection' Unlocked, -1kg Weight Loss.]

Li Hua didn't panic. She closed her eyes and accessed her new 'Perfume Alchemy' skill. In her mind, she didn't just see scents; she saw molecular structures. She realized that the caustic chemical had a heavy acidic base something that could be neutralized with a specific alkaline botanical compound.

"Chen, get me five gallons of white vinegar, ten pounds of dried lavender, and the concentrated jasmine oil from my private lab," Li Hua ordered.

"Vinegar? Boss, the store opens in two hours! The Minister's wife will be here!"

"Just do it!"

As Chen scrambled to follow her orders, the bell at the door chimed. It wasn't a customer. It was Ye Meiling, looking smug in a designer coat that Li Hua knew was a fake Southern silk. Beside her was Young Master Song, looking like he had already won.

"Oh, Boss Li," Meiling chirped, her voice dripping with fake concern. "I heard a rumor that your 'miracle fabric' is causing people to break out in hives. How tragic! I've already called the Health Bureau and the Daily Capital News. They should be here any minute to... inspect your 'National Innovation'."

Young Master Song stepped forward, his eyes gleaming with malice. "I told you, Li Hua. You don't play in the Capital without paying the price. Your little 'bamboo blend' is about to become a toxic waste scandal."

Li Hua didn't look up from the vat of liquid she was mixing in the center of the showroom. She was wearing protective gloves, her movements precise. She was infusing the vinegar and lavender with a System-generated catalyst.

"Is that so, Master Song?" Li Hua said, finally looking up. Her 60kg silhouette was framed by the morning sun, making her look like a goddess of the hearth. "It's interesting that you know about the hives before a single customer has even tried on the clothes."

"I... I have my sources!" Song stammered.

"Your source is Xiao Wang," Li Hua stated, her voice echoing. "The man you bribed with 5,000 Yuan to pour acid on my inventory. Too bad for you, Xiao Wang was caught at the train station by Ye Feng's men twenty minutes ago. He's currently explaining your 'exclusive deal' to the police."

The color drained from Song's face. Meiling's mouth fell open.

"As for the 'toxins'..." Li Hua picked up a spray bottle filled with her new Alchemy Solution. She walked to the rack of poisoned dresses and began to mist them.

The reaction was instantaneous. The caustic oil didn't just neutralize; it transformed. The chemical reaction with the lavender and jasmine created a scent so intoxicatingly beautiful that it began to drift out onto the street. It was a scent that smelled of success, power, and ancient springtimes.

[Ding! 'Perfume Alchemy' Success! You have created: 'Imperial Phoenix' Scented Silk.]

The doors burst open. It wasn't the Health Bureau it was a crowd of reporters and the Minister's wife, Madam Zhao.

"What is that smell?" Madam Zhao gasped, her eyes wide. "It's heavenly! I could smell it from three blocks away!"

Li Hua stepped forward, handing a freshly treated 'Midnight-Gold' dress to the Madam. "Madam Zhao, you're just in time. This is my new 'Scent-Infused' line. Not only is the fabric patented, but it is treated with a botanical essence that calms the skin and leaves a trail of 'Imperial Phoenix' wherever you walk."

Madam Zhao touched the fabric. It was cool, soft, and smelled like a dream. "I must have ten of them! For all the women in the diplomatic corps!"

The reporters began snapping photos like wildfire. [FASHION GENIUS CREATES FRAGRANCE FABRIC!] would be the headline the next morning.

Li Hua turned to Meiling and Song, who were shrinking toward the door.

"Master Song," Li Hua said, her smile as sharp as a needle. "Thank you for the 'inspiration'. Without your acid, I never would have discovered how to bond perfume to bamboo fibers. You've just helped me increase my profit margin by 300%."

[Ding! Mission Success! Total Humiliation: 200%.]

[Rewards Issued: +50 Business IQ, 'Global Connection' (Invitation to Paris Fashion Week!) unlocked.]

[Weight Loss: -1kg. Current Weight: 59kg! (You have surpassed your goal!)]

Ye Feng walked through the door, stepping over the threshold just as the police arrived to take Young Master Song into custody. He walked straight to Li Hua, his eyes burning with a pride that was no longer hidden.

"59kg," he murmured, his hand finding the small of her back. "You're getting smaller, Li Hua, but your shadow is covering the whole city."

"I told you, Ye Feng," she whispered, looking at the invitation to Paris that had just materialized in her Spatial Storage. "The Capital was just the beginning. I think it's time I showed the French what a Chinese phoenix looks like."
