Chapter 4 - THE PLACE WITHOUT TIME

Kael opened his eyes.

But there was no "opening" feeling.

No transition.

No moment of arrival.

It was as if he had always been here.

He stood in darkness.

Not the academy's darkness.

Not night.

Not space.

Something deeper.

A place where even light felt like it didn't belong.

Kael turned slowly.

"…Hello?"

His voice didn't echo.

It didn't even disappear.

It just… stopped existing after he spoke.

Silence.

Then—

A sound.

Not heard through ears.

But felt inside memory.

Click.

Like a lock unlocking somewhere very far away.

A massive structure slowly emerged ahead of him.

A staircase.

Endless.

Going upward and downward at the same time.

Impossible geometry.

Kael stepped back.

"…Where am I?"

No answer.

But the air responded.

Not with words.

With pressure.

As if the space itself was watching him breathe.

Then—

A voice returned.

The same one from before.

Calm.

Too calm.

"You returned faster than expected."

Kael spun around.

"Show yourself!"

A pause.

Then laughter.

Not loud.

Not emotional.

Just… familiar.

"You still act the same."

Kael froze.

"…Same as who?"

Silence.

A long one.

Too long.

Then the voice said something that broke something inside Kael's mind.

"As the one who once governed this place."

Kael staggered back.

"What are you talking about?! I've never been here!"

The staircase in front of him shifted.

Not physically.

But like reality was correcting his statement.

New steps appeared.

But not forward.

Behind him.

As if the path was rewriting itself depending on his thoughts.

The voice lowered.

"Lies are not stable here."

Kael clenched his fists.

"I'm not lying!"

A pulse.

The air cracked slightly.

And suddenly—

Images flashed in his mind.

Not memories.

Fragments.

A throne.

Broken chains.

A sky collapsing.

And voices calling his name…

But not "Kael."

Something older.

Something heavier.

Kael dropped to his knees instantly.

"Stop…!"

The images vanished.

Silence returned.

Then the voice spoke again.

Slower now.

Almost… observing.

"So the seal is still resisting."

Kael looked up sharply.

"…Seal?"

The space trembled slightly at that word.

Like it reacted emotionally.

Then—

A door appeared in the air.

Floating.

Black.

Covered in glowing cracks.

And behind it—

Something was breathing.

Slow.

Heavy.

Alive.

Kael stepped back instinctively.

"What is that…?"

No answer.

But the door responded anyway.

A voice from behind it.

Not the same as before.

Different.

Deeper.

Angrier.

"He is not supposed to be awake yet."

Kael's heart skipped.

"…There's more than one voice?"

The first voice returned immediately.

Quieter now.

Controlled.

"They noticed you."

Kael shouted:

"WHO?!"

The door cracked slightly.

And a single eye opened behind it.

Not human.

Not beast.

Not divine.

Just recognition.

Like it was seeing something it had been waiting for forever.

And then—

It spoke Kael's name.

But not how he knew it.

"Ardent… the False Vessel."

The moment those words were spoken—

Kael's chest burned violently.

He screamed.

Outside the sealed space—

Back in the academy—

The First Forgotten Legend suddenly grabbed her chest.

Her blindfold chains shattered slightly.

"…No…"

She looked upward.

Like she could see through dimensions.

"They opened it…"

Back inside—

Kael fell forward.

The door slowly opened wider.

And the voice inside said:

"Welcome back… traitor."

Kael's vision went white.

And then—

He saw a battlefield.

A war that had already ended.

And himself… standing in the center of it.

Holding something that looked like the world's final seal.

Then everything shattered.

Kael gasped awake.

Back in the academy hall.

On his knees.

The summoning circle gone.

The air normal again.

But something was wrong.

Because everyone was staring at him.

Trembling.

Silent.

And above him—

A new system message appeared in red.

Only visible to him.

⚠️ MEMORY FRACTURE DETECTED

IDENTITY INCONSISTENCY RISING

SEAL STATUS: 12% UNSTABLE

Kael whispered:

"…What am I?"

And somewhere far away—

Something answered:

"You are what they failed to finish erasing."
