Chapter 12 - Ch. 12 Let's Go Meet Them!

Life after becoming an Adjuchas is worlds apart from the days of being a Menos Grande. First and foremost, the struggle for survival has reached a fever pitch. Unless I hunt and devour my own kind—other Adjuchas—I face the looming threat of regression. To avoid backsliding into a mindless Gillian, I spend every single day in a state of perpetual slaughter. This is the daily grind of an Adjuchas.

"Die!"

"No, you die!"

BOOM! BOOM! CRASH!

And so, today as well, I fight to live. And I eat to grow stronger.

Crunch. Crunch.

I ponder my situation while gnawing on the mangled remains of the Adjuchas I just put down. It has already been three months since my evolution. During that time, quite a lot has changed. Unlike the stationary targets I used to hunt as a Menos Grande, other Adjuchas are proactive—they charge at me, set up ambushes, and fight back with everything they have. It's a completely different lifestyle.

"Well, thanks to that, I've finally gotten the hang of how to fight properly."

After three months of this constant friction, combat techniques have practically been carved into my bones. Moreover, I no longer feel the slightest hesitation about killing. In fact, since slaughter has become a routine, it feels weirder when I'm not killing someone. I think I might have become a complete battle-junkie.

"Still, it's not like I ever get tired of the flavor."

Despite feasting on Adjuchas for months, the taste hasn't gone stale. It's something I felt since I was just a regular Hollow—the more Reiatsu a target possesses, the more exquisite they taste. It's an addiction. Since the battles as an Adjuchas never end, I get to enjoy high-quality delicacies every single day. This carcass I'm eating now is already my second course of the day.

"Is it time to move on?"

Normally, I would engage in at least five battles a day and have five meals, but lately, the number of Adjuchas in the immediate vicinity has dwindled. Even today, I only managed to trigger two fights. It was time to find new hunting grounds.

Gulp.

After swallowing the very last scrap of spiritual flesh, I stood up. It was time to leave this place behind. I didn't have a specific destination in mind, but I decided to just pick a direction and start walking.

"Ho, now this is a fun sight."

I hadn't walked long before I stumbled upon something interesting: a group-level brawl between Adjuchas. Generally, there are two reasons why Adjuchas form packs. One, weak ones huddling together for safety; or two, strong ones gathering to dominate. The former survives through the 'power of numbers,' while the latter is more of a high-tier social circle. Either way, it doesn't concern me much because they have to share their prey among themselves.

"Let's see how this plays out."

I leisurely began to spectate the carnage. It was a 5-on-5 battle. While it wasn't a massive army, seeing ten Adjuchas gathered in one spot was still a rare occurrence. The fight lasted quite a while. Watching different types of Adjuchas compensate for each other's weaknesses and amplify their attacks was a novel experience for me.

Eventually, the dust settled, leaving only two survivors. Both had grown extremely pale, their Reiatsu flickering and faint. Finally, it was my time to shine. I hadn't been watching just for the entertainment.

"Mind if I cut in?"

"Who's there?!"

"What the—where did you come from?!"

The two survivors, who had been locked in a tense standoff, shouted in panic as I stepped between them. I simply smirked at them and raised both hands, aiming a palm at each of their heads.

"Me? I'm just a passing-by tyrant. Cero!"

BOOM! BOOM!

The moment I finished speaking, dual beams of spiritual light erupted from my hands, piercing the skulls of the distracted Adjuchas. I looked at the two fresh corpses—and the eight other bodies littered around the battlefield—and laughed with genuine delight.

"Thanks for the meal!"

After gorging myself on the spiritual remains of all ten Adjuchas, I set off once again into the white sands of Hueco Mundo.
