Chapter 58
Red drops of blood formed a trail down the old hallway with every step that Rayton took.
There was no one in the building around dawn, so Rayton hadn't to bothered to wash the blood off before returning. Working at night was beneficial in many ways, in that sense.
Rayton didn't even have the strength to take a shower and scrub the stench of blood away. He wanted to lie down and fall into a deep sleep, even just for a moment.
However, recently, he could not do so. He was always attacked by nightmares that flashed images of the headless and gut-dragging nobles whom Rayton murdered with his own hands. Sometimes people that Rayton didn’t know popped up, just like the man he saw after eliminating General Hayden.
They were always staring at him with their eyes widened in fear. Bright red flames devoured them before Rayton could say a word, leaving the lingering echoes of traumatizing screams and the smell of burnt flesh behind as he woke up.
