I stayed a few more days in Whistlow to assess the situation in Zilton's, no, now Seven Hills' new territories and to recruit support troops for Riverdun.
I was worried people would be sick of fighting after such a grueling war, but surprisingly, there were more volunteers than expected––in fact, so many that we had to start a selection process.
"Eddy, do people actually like war? Is it just me who hates it?" I asked, looking tiredly at the pile of applications.
Rolling around on the couch, Edwin just poked his head up and chuckled.
"Raviel, you offered ridiculous wages. That's life-changing money for soldiers from commoner backgrounds, so they are flocking in to apply. Plus, you promised to double it if they die."
"Still, more than half the Imperial Army volunteered."
"How many were you planning to send?"
"About twenty thousand because any more than that would be tough on Riverdun's finances."
