The courtroom grew silent at Dumbledore's demand, his tone colder than ever heard before. This, however, did not seem to bother Adelaide in the slightest, instead, a small laugh could be heard from the young girl which caught everyone by surprise.
"And who are you to make demands?" She questions with her arms folded over her chest, her eyebrow quirked in a challenging manner.
"I'm Albus Dumbledore-"
"That name means nothing to me, Mr Dumbledore. It would have if when my parents had been murdered, I remained in the magical world but instead, I was left on my muggle family's doorstep. You don't happen to know anything about that, do you, Mr Dumbledore?" Dumbledore visibly paled and his right hand twitched, indicating that he was close to raising his wand.
"It was for the greater good-"
"Ah yes, the so-called greater good. Wasn't that the same phrase that Gellert Grindelwald used when he was the dark lord?" Whispers could be heard around the room but Adelaide's eyes did not waver from Dumbledore's. It was then, that she felt her mental barriers being poked, making her glare hatefully at the older wizard as she pushed against his attack aggressively, making him fall back into his seat.
"You dare try to read my mind?!" She growled, her magic releasing slowly which made the air grow extremely cold.
"He what!" Sirius jumped up, his body tense as he glared at Dumbledore, who was trying to regulate his breathing.
"Lady Potter-Black, do you want to reveal your titles or would you rather it be a secret?" Amelia called out, hoping to calm the tense atmosphere. Father and daughter reluctantly looked away from the winded headmaster and turned towards Amelia, who was looking at the both of them with a small and barely noticeable smile.
"Reveal the titles, little one. It will show the magical world that you aren't to be messed with" Mortem's voice echoed through her mind, making her smile softly at the comfort it gives her.
"You may reveal it, Madam Bones" With a firm nod, Madam Bones raised from her seat which made the entire room focus on her.
"On this day, we are blessed to be in the presence of an extremely powerful witch. As you all know, an inheritance test at Gringotts Bank is 100% accurate and can not be forged. Now, Lady Potter-Black's inheritance test shows two titles, one that we believed was anything but a legend and the other, that has only been seen once in all of magical history. We at the ministry, recognise Lady Potter-Black as the mistress of death and Lady Magic's chosen-" Shouts and gasps erupted through the entire room, people staring down at her in fear whilst others looked as though the new coming of Merlin himself was standing before them.
"SILENCE!" Her voice echoed, startling everyone in the courtroom, seeing Madam Bones' glare made everyone settle back into their seats.
"Now, does anyone have any questions?" Hands raised almost immediately, making Adelaide laugh under her breath. She grew tired of standing and so, with a wave of her hand, a chair appeared beside her father who smiled proudly as she approached.
"You thirsty again, Papa?"
"No, I'm okay for now sweetheart" Adel sent him a small smile and grabbed his hand softly, placing it in her lap.
"Yes, Lady Longbottom?" Adelaide turned towards her Gran, who stood from her seat and smiled softly down at the powerful young girl.
"What does Lady Magic's chosen entail?"
"It means that everything I do, whether it is illegal or not, cannot result in my arrest as everything I do, is in the name of Lady Magic herself. I am the balance that the magic world needs, I am light, grey and dark magic all in one, every magical creature and every magical witch and wizard is the same in the eyes of Lady Magic-" The courtroom looked down at the beautiful young witch in amazement, the dark faction feeling as though they will be able to be themselves and not hide away their magic in fear of being arrested or hunted down.
"And in all due respect, it means that the titles given to those in this very room mean very little. I respect every one of you, especially those who wish to carry on our magical traditions-" Adelaide was cut off by a high-pitched hum, her jaw clenched immediately as her eyes fell upon Delores Umbridge, who raised from her seat with a false smile.
"Excuse me, but those traditions are made illegal for a reason" Her sweet tone sent horrible chills down her spine, making her have to hold back a sneer from her face.
"Those traditions are what is keeping magic alive, banning them from our world means that you're willing to allow our magic in Britain to die out. My title as Lady Magic chosen means my word overrides yours. So, I, Lady Potter, Peverell, Gryffindor, Slytherin, Mistress of death and Lady Magic's chosen hereby declare that on behalf of Lady Magic herself, all Magical traditions and laws against Magical creatures are to be discarded, giving everyone equal rights. So mote it be"
What they didn't know, was that everyone with magical blood, whether that be magical creatures or witches and wizards, felt a shift in their magical cores. All those with magical or creature blocks were released from their binds, allowing them to feel free for the first time in centuries. Those in the courtroom, especially with dark cores and Remus, teared up and sighed in awe at the feeling of their magic releasing freely.
"Do you know what you've done?" Umbridge screamed, her wand pointing towards the eleven-year-old girl who seemed unbothered by her tantrum.
Before her very eyes, Adelaide watched as the majority of every witch and wizard in the room stood from their seats, their wands pointing towards the pink-dressed woman. Umbridge paled as her wand arm trembled at the sight.
"You're forgetting something, Ma'am. I'm the mistress of death, your magic will cause little to no harm to me. I am immortal" Adelaide announced, a large smirk forming on her face when she heard her papa laugh loudly behind her. The woman in pink visibly gulped and slumped back into her seat, curling into herself at the death glares directed at her by many powerful witches and wizards.
"Lord Malfoy, you have a question?" Adelaide tore her eyes away from the scared toad-like woman and focussed on Lord Malfoy, also known as her uncle.
"I would like to say how appreciative we are of what you just did, my Lady. A lot of us in this very room have been fighting for those rights and have been unsuccessful. I could only speak for myself when I say that I now understand your position as Lady Magic's chosen but we are still in the dark about your title of mistress of death. If you could, will you please elaborate?" Adelaide couldn't help but feel impressed and a little surprised by his respectable tone, it was clear to her that the man was in awe and a little shocked by who she was but with his pureblood mask, he was able to push it away to get his question across.
"Certainly Lord Malfoy. I'm sure you are all aware of the story of the three brothers-" She looked around and saw everyone nod their heads in confirmation "Perfect, it is told that to become master or mistress of death, you must collect all three hallows but I am living proof that unfortunately, that is a complete lie. To have such a title only comes when death himself chooses you specifically and since birth, death has been by my side. However, it wasn't until recently that I was aware of his presence and he explained the power I now hold-"
"And what power is that, may I ask?" Dumbledore interrupted, his eyes filled with greed and anger.
"As I said, I am immortal and once I hit eighteen, I will stop ageing. Being the mistress of death means that I attract everything dark, whether that is dark creatures or those with dark cores and that's because I am quite literally, the darkest someone can get. Now, being dark does not mean evil, believe me when I say, I have no intention of becoming the next dark lady but I refuse to hide who I am because of the prejudice in this country. Lastly, I have full control over the darkest of creatures, including Dementors and Thestrals" Once again, the room was filled with whispers and Adelaide noticed a lot more fearful eyes directed at her.
"My little girl, the little dark witch" Sirius bragged, a large smirk on his face which may have looked a lot more attractive if his teeth weren't rotting away.
"I'm not little anymore, Papa" Adelaide whined, her face lowered in embarrassment and in hopes to hide the blush that appeared on her cheeks.
"Come on, Pup, let me brag a little" Adelaide raised her eyebrow at the sight of her Papa pouting, only to let out a bark-like laugh when she rolled her eyes.
"Settle down everyone! The session is about to end, Lady Potter-Black, please make sure your father receives the treatments he needs"
"Of course, Madam Bones" The woman smiled down at her before dismissing everyone.
Remus immediately approached the two, pulling his best friend into a tight embrace and Adelaide couldn't help the tears that formed in her eyes at the sight of them reunited.
"Lady Potter-Black" Adelaide turned and smiled softly at the small group that approached.
"Lord Malfoy, Lord Nott, Lady Longbottom" She greeted respectfully.
"I must say, I'm incredibly impressed" Lady Longbottom announced, looking down at her with pride.
"Thank you, Lady Longbottom"
"None of this Lady Longbottom, you know what to call me" She spoke in a stern but soft tone, making Adelaide chuckle with a nod.
"I'm sorry Gran, it's hard to switch between the two sometimes" Her gran laughed softly and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"I'm incredibly proud of you, sweetheart" Adelaide smiled brightly at the older woman and sighed in contentment when she placed a kiss on her forehead.
"It's an honour to officially meet you, Lady Potter-Black. My son, Draco had spoken quite highly of you from your brief meeting"
"It's nice to meet you too, Lord Malfoy and please, call me Adelaide. You're technically my uncle, after all-" She teased, earning a surprised but amused look from the man. "How is my dear cousin anyway? I've been meaning to owl him but with everything going on, I've been a little distracted"
"Then you may call me Lucius or Uncle. Draco is doing well, thank you for asking, he's looking forward to attending Hogwarts finally and I'm sure he will completely understand your reasoning for not sending an owl" She nodded in agreement as she too was looking forward to attending or in her case, returning to Hogwarts.
"I do hope so, I can't have my lovely cousin angry at me, now can we?" They both laughed before Adelaide turned towards the last man.
"Lord Nott, it's a pleasure to meet you"
"The pleasure is all mine, Lady Potter-Black and you may call me Theodore"
"Then you may call me Adelaide. If I'm not mistaken, you also have a son, do you not?" The man seemed surprised at her knowledge of his heir and he immediately puffed his chest out in pride.
"You are correct, Adelaide. My son Theodore is attending Hogwarts at the same time as you, Heir Malfoy and Heir Longbottom" Adelaide couldn't help but smile at how much pride and adoration was in the man's voice when speaking about his son, she could tell that he is in the most important person in the man's life.
"Well, I look forward to meeting him! Just as I am looking forward to finally reuniting with my big brother, Neville" Augusta looked down at Adelaide with eyes filled with shock and sadness.
"My dear Neville has seen many pictures of the two of you when you were babies, especially your first birthday which you had as a joined occasion. I know that despite not remembering you all that much, he does miss you dearly" Tears formed in her green globes and in seeing them, Augusta pulled her into a tight and loving embrace.
"I remember him, I remember it all. I have an eidetic memory, you see" This was a shock for not only the three in front of her but her Papa, who had approached only moments before.
"Do not worry, sweetheart, you'll see him soon" Her Gran reassured before pulling away.
"Lord Black" The three greeted the man, who smiled and nodded in response before turning towards his daughter.
"Hey sweetheart, I was wondering who the healer was going to be?" A bright smile appeared on her face and immediately turned to her Uncle Lucius, who raised an eyebrow in question.
"Uncle Lucy, I know your wife, Lady Malfoy is a healer correct?" The man cringed slightly at the nickname but decided not to bother to correct her and nodded his head for the question instead.
"I was wondering if she would perhaps help my Papa? I was made aware that they are cousins and it would be lovely to meet my Aunt" The normally cold-faced Lord couldn't keep the same from forming on his face, he simply found the girl amazing and hoped that if blessed in the future, that his daughter would be exactly like her.
"Of course, Adelaide. I'll discuss it with Narcissa and we shall arrange a time and date for the first session"
"Thank you, Uncle. I'm sorry to cut this short but we must collect his wand and return home. It was lovely to meet you all and hope to see you soon"
