Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Foreign Silence of 2026

And boom.

The suffocating smell of smoke and burning metal vanished instantly, replaced by the crisp, biting chill of a winter breeze. The calendar had violently spun backward. It was now December, somewhere in the transition between the years 2025 and 2026.

"What in heaven's name is this place? Didn't I just die, Noxy?"

Jackson's voice was incredibly tired, rough and scratchy from the exhaustion of four endless, sleepless nights. He was lying flat on his back on a hard, gritty concrete surface.

A tiny, glowing speck of light floated out from his torn pocket. "Hmm, you're right, Jackson," a soft, melodious voice chimed. The light expanded and shifted, morphing until Noxy stood there in her delicate, shimmering fairy form, her translucent wings fluttering to keep her aloft.

Jackson groaned, slowly pushing himself up onto his elbows. He scanned his surroundings with a sharp, analytical gaze. "What time period is this? And what are these ugly, primitive buildings, Noxy?"

Noxy flew up a bit higher, looking over the ledge of the building. "We might have traveled back in time. The quantum signature of the amulet must have reacted with the ship's explosion. Let's just get off this ugly-looking rooftop, Jackson Blake," she replied with a soft sigh.

Jackson nodded numbly. Standing up, he checked his injuries and was shocked to find his wounds were gone, though his clothes were still ruined. Together, the operative and his fairy companion quietly slipped down the fire escape, stepping out into the unknown era.

Chapter 3: The Warrior in the Shadows...

Meanwhile, not too far away, the shadows of a narrow, litter-filled dark alleyway stirred.

Rudra gasped, his eyes flying open as he bolted upright. His heart was hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird. "Wh... wh... what is this scary-looking place? I was just in the middle of a war... Did I die? No, pull yourself together, Rudra," he whispered fiercely to himself.

His breath was still shaky, his throat dry as he looked around, trying to compose his racing thoughts. He was a warrior, trained to survive, but nothing in his kingdom had prepared him for this. The air smelled of strange fuel, and the towering structures around him weren't made of ancient stone or magic crystals.....they were cold concrete and glass.

Slowly, carefully, Rudra crept toward the edge of the dark alley. It was dawn, and a heavy, foggy silence wrapped around the city.

HONK!!!

Suddenly, a loud, piercing mechanical roar shattered the quiet. A massive metal beast on four round wheels rolled past the alleyway. Two blindingly bright, circular yellow eyes pierced right through the dim morning mist.

Rudra's eyes widened in sheer terror. He let out a sharp gasp, diving back into the deepest shadows of the alley, pressing his back against the brick wall. What... was that? his mind raced, his hand instinctively reaching for a sword that was no longer there. A new monster engineered by the Black Empire? It can emit blinding light and make deafening sounds... it must be incredibly powerful. I might need a high-ranking mage's help to pierce its outer armor.

He stayed hidden, frantically formulating battle strategies in his head to slay the metal beast.

A few minutes later, the quiet chatter of voices echoed down the sidewalk. Rudra peeked out again. A group of young students was walking past, carrying backpacks, laughing and talking. Rudra listened intently, but his brows furrowed in complete confusion.

Is this a trap too? What language are they even speaking? he thought, bewildered. Their clothes are shaped so strangely, and their skin tones... everything is so unfamiliar. Yet, recognizing his disadvantage, he stayed perfectly still, trapped in his dark hiding spot.
