Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Night Training

The night had fallen over Kage High, shrouding the sprawling campus in shadows that seemed almost alive. The moon hung low, silver and cold, casting a pale glow over the courtyard. Most students were safely tucked away in their dorms or homes, oblivious to the subtle hum of energy that Kaen Hisakawa could feel threading through the air.

Kaen crouched atop the school's main roof, black hair tousled by the wind, red eyes glowing faintly as he surveyed the grounds below. The wolf instincts within him twitched with anticipation. This was his time—the hours when the world was quiet, and no one could interfere.

Tonight, he would push further than he had before. Clone separation—the art of dividing his multiple forms, allowing his Wolf, Titan, and Demon sides to act independently—was still raw, untested in full combat conditions. But Kaen was determined. The night offered opportunity. And Kaen never hesitated when opportunity presented itself.

He exhaled slowly, feeling the subtle energy of his Titan clone coiling beneath the surface, ready to be drawn into existence. The air shimmered faintly, and from the shadow beside him, a tall, hulking form emerged—his Titan clone, silent and imposing, eyes faintly glowing with the same red hue as Kaen's own.

Kaen nodded to himself. One step at a time.

He focused on the wolf side next, letting instincts guide his energy. A faint ripple passed over his skin, black fur sprouting along his arms, sharp claws extending, ears twitching as his senses sharpened beyond human limits. His red eyes glowed brighter, scanning the courtyard below, cataloging every subtle movement, every hidden detail.

The clones separated with a subtle hum of energy. The Titan clone stood as a hulking sentinel beside him, wolf form crouched low and ready, and Kaen's demonic side—though unmanifested fully—waited in the back of his mind, coiled like a predator. The balance was delicate. Too much energy drawn from one side could destabilize the others. Too little, and the clones would falter.

Kaen began with basic drills. The Wolf clone darted forward, moving faster than the eye could follow, leaping from one rooftop to another, claws scraping faintly against the tiles. The Titan clone followed at a slower pace, each step sending faint vibrations through the ground below. Kaen observed, noting the subtle differences, the strain, the flow of energy between the forms.

Hours passed. The night air grew colder, and the shadows lengthened. Kaen experimented with coordination, having the Wolf clone act as scout while the Titan clone blocked or struck at imaginary opponents. He tested reaction times, control, and endurance. His wolf instincts guided rapid adjustments, while Titan strength provided brute force, and the demonic edge whispered with potential aggression that needed restraint.

At one point, a low growl rumbled through the courtyard—the wolf clone had encountered a stray creature, drawn by the scent of power. Kaen controlled the reaction, commanding the clone to neutralize without killing. The wolf obeyed instantly, returning silently to his side.

Sweat dripped down Kaen's forehead, his breaths steady but controlled. This was more than training—it was communion with his own nature, exploration of the limits of what he could do. Every movement, every adjustment, brought new understanding.

Suddenly, the faint crackle of energy alerted him. Shadows shifted unnaturally across the courtyard below. Kaen tensed, wolf instincts flaring, senses straining. Someone—or something—was moving in the night. Not human, not fully. The energy was deliberate, focused, and dangerous.

He signaled his clones. The Wolf clone crouched low, Titan clone braced. Kaen's own body tensed, red eyes flaring as he channeled energy subtly, preparing for confrontation.

From the shadows, a figure emerged. Dark robes, hood concealing most features, energy flickering faintly. Kaen's senses flared—the observer he had felt before. This was no mere student. Not a teacher. Something else entirely, and the intent was clear: test him.

Kaen shifted slightly, wolf instincts coiling. He let the clones move first. The Wolf clone darted toward the figure, testing reflexes, gauging strength. The figure barely flinched, dodging with effortless grace, energy rippling around them. The Titan clone stepped forward, its hulking form moving to block any potential strike.

Kaen's heart rate remained calm, controlled, but his mind raced. This was more than training—a real test under real threat. Every sense was alive: the rustle of fabric, the faint shift of air, the subtle vibration of magic in the ground.

The figure raised a hand, and a surge of energy shot toward the clones. The Wolf clone dodged with instinctual speed, leaping across rooftops. The Titan clone absorbed the brunt of the impact, trembling but holding firm. Kaen felt the strain ripple through him—his clones drew energy directly from his core, and each attack forced him to manage balance carefully.

With a low growl, Kaen intervened directly. Wolf instincts surged, Titan strength coiled, demonic edge whispered. He moved as a singular unit, a fusion of all three aspects, striking with precision and controlled aggression. The figure staggered slightly, surprised by the sudden unity of Kaen's forms.

For a moment, the night seemed suspended—energy crackling, shadows dancing, and the soft wind carrying the scent of ozone from unleashed power. Kaen's red eyes glowed fiercely, wolf instincts howling within, Titan strength driving his blows, demonic energy lending a subtle edge of fear.

Then, with a swift motion, the figure vanished, leaving behind only a faint trace of energy and a subtle sense of amusement. Kaen exhaled, wolf instincts settling, but awareness remaining hyper-alert.

"This is only the beginning," he murmured. "There's more watching… more testing."

Hours passed as Kaen continued training, the night stretching endlessly. He practiced clone separation in increasingly complex scenarios—Wolf scouting, Titan defending, Demonic edge countering, all while maintaining subtle control. Each success, each failure, sharpened his instincts, improved his balance, and prepared him for the trials that lay ahead.

By the time the first light of dawn crept over Kage High, Kaen was exhausted but exhilarated. His body bore the marks of intense training, but his mind and senses had grown sharper. He had glimpsed the edges of his potential, learned the delicate balance of his multi-race powers, and felt the thrill of true growth.

As he leapt down from the roof, his red eyes fading to normal, Kaen sensed movement in the distance—students beginning their morning routines, unaware of the night's hidden battles. And somewhere in the shadows, he felt the presence of the mysterious figure, patient and watching, waiting for the next opportunity.

Kaen Hisakawa's night training had revealed more than just his power. It had revealed the first taste of the real challenges ahead: rivals, observers, and threats that would test every facet of his being. Wolf, Titan, demon—he was all of them, and soon, he would need to master every part of himself to survive the coming storm.

The wolf within him stirred softly, anticipation coiling like a spring. The night had been a trial, and Kaen had passed—but the real tests were only beginning.
