It really did level up! And there are two new quests!
The two quests seem different, though. The former has a limit on the number, while the latter doesn't. Is this a quest without a kill limit?
Still, these details aren't important right now. What matters is the significant change brought about by leveling up.
Nidhogg could clearly feel a qualitative change in his body; his physical attributes had improved, and he even possessed combat memories and experience that shouldn't have belonged to him.
Overjoyed, he used the jailer's key to unlock the shackles on his hands and legs, making his limbs feel much lighter.
Then, he stripped the clothes off the middle-aged jailer and put them on, disguising himself as a jailer in the hopes of sneaking out with this outfit.
As he looked at the updated short-term quest and pondered where to retrieve his vagabond knight set, the prisoners in the other cells realized he had killed the jailer and stolen the keys, and they couldn't help but start shouting.
"Hey kid, hurry, give me the key!"
"Well killed, well killed!"
"Save me! I'm innocent! Hurry and save me!"
The group excitedly urged Nidhogg to open their doors and rescue them as well.
Nidhogg did not do so. He didn't know how many of the prisoners here were as innocent as he was, and there was no time to judge now.
He dropped the keys on the ground, strode away, ignored the prisoners' shouts, promises, and curses, and left the prison directly.
Nidhogg arrived in the outside corridor, his whole body bathed in sunlight.
He took a relaxing breath, but immediately became tense again due to the commotion around him.
"Kill—"
"Don't let them in!"
"Charge in! The first one to do so will be heavily rewarded!"
He hid behind a pillar and peeked outside. Sure enough, he saw a large group of fully armored soldiers fighting each other. Various blades, spears, swords, and axes collided, corpses fell to the ground, and blood flowed everywhere.
This was the first time Nidhogg had seen such a tragic battlefield. His heart tightened, and thinking of himself being unarmed, he didn't dare to show his head and walked quietly, sticking to the wall.
He soon saw an open door with a soldier's corpse lying at the entrance, eyes wide open in death.
Nidhogg heard no sound in the room, so he moved a little closer, and then he saw the updated quest content.
"Short-term quest: Retrieve vagabond knight set (1/6)"
Huh?
Nidhogg looked down at the soldier's corpse in confusion, then noticed the longsword in his hand looked familiar. He picked it up and, sure enough, the information about the longsword appeared.
"Longsword"
A double-edged straight sword with a straight blade.
Capable of high-versatility normal attacks and high-damage piercing attacks, it is a weapon with excellent balance.
"Battle Skill: Ready Stance"
Raise the sword parallel to the ground, then unleash a battle skill.
Light attack unleashes a slash that breaks defense.
Heavy attack lunges forward for a piercing attack.
Nidhogg swung this plain-looking longsword, both surprised and delighted.
This sword is my longsword, but why is it in the hands of this soldier?
He quickly thought of the reason. It was currently wartime, so his vagabond knight set certainly couldn't be wasted; it had likely been distributed to different soldiers by the lord or Bazuso.
After Nidhogg stepped into the room, this conjecture was confirmed.
The room was in a mess, with seven or eight corpses lying on the ground. Besides Nidhogg, there were no living people, clearly the aftermath of a bloody battle.
The quest content updated accordingly.
"Short-term quest: Retrieve vagabond knight set (5/6)"
Whoa, retrieved four at once?
Nidhogg searched through each corpse and finally locked onto one soldier. The helmet, armor, gauntlets, and greaves on him belonged to Nidhogg's vagabond knight set, so he immediately stripped them all off.
He took off the jailer's clothes and put on the vagabond knight set. Especially when he put on the helmet, he finally felt a sense of security.
