Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: The Complete Form of the Gluttonous Worm

Facing her current Evolution Points, Neva actually had two choices.

One was to continue accumulating them and complete her Evolution in one go.

The second was to consume Evolution Points to acquire other abilities.

If all of this were a game, Evolution would be similar to leveling up, and abilities would be skills.

Currently, she could only exchange for two abilities.

The panel disappeared, and then a series of messages appeared before her eyes.

Current selectable abilities: Perception, Bone Armor

Perception: A precognitive ability that enhances sensory organs, with a certain probability of detecting danger in advance. Requires 3 Evolution Points. (Type: Basic)

Bone Armor: Strengthens the exoskeleton on the body's surface, enhancing physical defense. Requires 2 Evolution Points. (Type: Basic)

Actually, upon seeing these two abilities, Neva lost the desire to exchange for them.

She had originally thought there would be some ability that could smash planets!

It seemed she had been taking things for granted.

Of course, it wasn't that these two abilities were useless, but their effect on her was definitely not as significant as the boost from Evolution.

Before, Neva might have considered it, but now, looking at the progress bar that was only 0.8 away from completion, her OCD kicked in, and she decided to wait a bit longer.

Compared to gaining abilities, she was more excited about the unknown changes that Evolution would bring, which was like gacha in a game, always making people want to gamble.

After all, before drawing, everyone thought they were a lucky emperor.

Moreover, perhaps after Evolution, even more abilities would become available!

Neva thought optimistically.

She didn't stay put; the smell of blood was too strong here, and it might attract something.

After spending some time searching, Neva found a relatively Concealment cave. She decided to rest here first and go out to explore once her wounds were completely Healed...

After a period of sleep, Neva was fully recovered again.

Reluctantly leaving the safe cave, she began to rush around, trying to fill her stomach.

Due to the influence of Devour, Neva would get hungry easily.

The proficiency of Devour had increased to 2 points, so her digestion speed was also incredibly fast. To prevent herself from losing her mind due to hunger, solving the food problem became very important.

During her previous escape, Neva had completely lost her bearings, so she had no idea where she was in the cave.

Neva guessed that her birthplace should be a special cave specifically for storing Worm eggs, with only a single passage, whereas her current location was unusually intricate, with many openings leading to unknown places.

Yet there wasn't a single Worm egg... perhaps it was the middle or upper level of the cave.

Neva suddenly remembered the damn Insect Bone Frog from before; that was clearly not a creature of this Worm cave.

Since it came from outside the cave, it meant this area wasn't too far from the exit to the surface. Otherwise, the Insect Bone Frog would have been eaten by the Worms or foolishly poisoned itself before reaching here.

Neva circled the area a few more times but still found nothing.

It was one thing to have no Worm eggs, but there weren't even those ubiquitous Worms, which was a bit strange!

The empty cave was silent, and besides the faintly glowing moss, all that could be seen were scattered rocks of varying sizes on the ground.

A faint whimpering sound came from the far end of the passage, and a black curtain blocked Neva's view, as if brewing some unknown horror.

Neva felt a sudden, inexplicable sense of unease.

Why hadn't she noticed this cave was so terrifying before?

Thinking about it, it made sense; before, she would see a few fighting Worms every so often.

Her only concern then was how to avoid them; the threat posed by the Worms left her no time to worry about anything else.

But now, after such a long time, she hadn't seen a single moving thing. This abnormal phenomenon was, in fact, peculiar.

It was like walking alone in the dark night, surrounded by blurry shadows, with only silence as your companion. Darkness always sparked endless imagination about the unknown.

But if you held a black and white husky in your hand and listened to "Good Luck Comes" in your headphones, the fear would be greatly reduced.

Neva had not yet fully adapted to her identity as a Worm.

But this was something she had to overcome.

Thinking negatively, loneliness might be her new normal.

She slowly exhaled, adjusting her nervous mood.

There was nothing to be afraid of; perhaps it was just because her location was too remote.

After adjusting her state, Neva continued along the cave...

Time passed bit by bit...

Neva felt like she was about to faint from hunger.

How she wished to encounter a kind, cute, and plump Worm now.

Before, she had felt disgusted from eating too many Worms, but now she shamelessly hoped to encounter them again, just like many people who get abused in games swear to uninstall them, only to reinstall them the next day, full of contradictions...

However, she wasn't unlucky for too long. While wandering, she finally discovered a Worm egg stuck in a crack in a rock.

Joy appeared in Neva's eyes, and she pounced on it like a hungry wolf.

Taking a bite, a warm current entered her stomach, and Neva felt every cell in her body emit pleasure.

She quickly finished eating it, a look of lingering taste on her face.

Consumed 1 Worm egg, Evolution Points +0.1

It was still too little. Although her hunger was relieved, it was still far from completely eliminated. She had to find more Worm eggs.

"Crunch, crunch..."

Neva suddenly heard strange, rhythmic sounds coming from the cave ahead. The sound was very clear, like a spell that lingered in Neva's mind.

"Could it be other Worms fighting?"

Neva felt puzzled but also a little curious, torn about whether or not to go see the source of the sound.

She turned her head, but quickly turned back.

Ultimately, hunger and curiosity overcame fear, and Neva slowly moved her body forward.

"Crunch, crunch..."

The sound became clearer, as if it was right beside her.

Neva slowly climbed onto a rock and stealthily peered forward, then saw a scene that filled her with immense fear.

Her gaze met six crimson eyes.

The owner of the eyes was an extremely large Worm.

Its gray body shimmered with an armor-like luster. Just looking at its eyes, they were larger than Neva's head. She had no doubt that this Worm could easily swallow her whole.

The giant Worm was chewing on a mangled Worm carcass, and foul saliva continuously dripped from its mouthparts.

Neva finally understood why there were no other Worms here; all the Worms that stumbled in here were eaten by this guy!

Neva was on the verge of tears.

She never thought she would experience a situation where curiosity killed the cat!

The moment Neva saw the opponent, the giant Worm had already locked onto her.

Deep despair and powerlessness surged within Neva.

When the difference in strength reached a certain level, even resistance and escape became impossible.

This was an instinct of obedience ingrained in the genes of the Gluttonous Worm clan; lower-tier Worms simply could not resist higher-tier Worms, let alone defeat them.

After swallowing the Worm carcass in its mouth, the giant Worm charged straight at Typo.

But just then, something unexpected happened.

She suddenly found herself losing control of her body, as if her soul was entangled by invisible chains, and her consciousness felt like it was being hammered fiercely.

All the hairs on her body stood on end, and an unparalleled fear made her body tremble uncontrollably.

The source of this fear for Neva was not the giant Worm charging towards her, but rather from the... rock wall beside her?

"Bang!"

A huge crashing sound erupted, and the entire cave vibrated violently. Shattered rocks flew everywhere, and several pieces of debris struck Neva, leaving bloody wounds.

A colossal creature burst out from the adjacent rock wall, like a high-speed train, emitting a deafening roar.

This suddenly appearing massive creature directly collided with the giant Worm in front.

The next moment, flesh splattered, and the giant Worm's body instantly shattered into countless pieces of meat scattered across the ground.

In contrast, the enormous creature that suddenly burst out was completely unharmed, as if it had accidentally crushed an ant and didn't care at all.
