Chapter 7: When Anomalies Start Choosing
The chamber door sealed behind Rimuru. The locks engaged automatically.
But no one felt safer.
Inside the control room, no one spoke. They kept staring at the monitor.
At the thing that could now be seen.
"…It's stable," a researcher whispered.
Another shook his head. "No. It's calm."
That word spread uneasily. Calm meant choice.
And choice meant awareness.
Rimuru walked past them casually. Hands in his pockets.
Like nothing unusual had happened.
"So?" he said. "Did I pass?"
No one answered immediately.
The suited man spoke at last. "…You changed it."
Rimuru glanced back. "Not really."
A pause followed.
"I just understood it."
That answer didn't help.
Because the Foundation knew something terrifying.
Understanding wasn't supposed to change anomalies.
SYSTEM NOTICE — ANOMALY BEHAVIOR SHIFT
Alerts appeared across the screens. One after another.
"Multiple zones reporting irregular activity," a technician said.
"What kind?"
"…Non-hostile."
Silence followed.
That was worse.
SITE-19 — CONTAINMENT NETWORK
Doors stayed locked. Protocols remained active.
Nothing had changed on the surface.
But inside the chambers, something was different.
An aggressive entity stopped attacking.
A spatial object stopped distorting.
A panic-inducing presence became quiet.
Not contained.
But waiting.
CONTROL ROOM
"That's not coincidence," the lead researcher said.
"No," the suited man replied. "…It's a response."
"To what?"
He looked at Rimuru. "…To him."
Rimuru sighed. "You're overthinking it."
"No," she said. "We're not."
A screen shifted, showing multiple feeds.
Every chamber looked stable. Every anomaly quiet.
All of them… aware.
"They're synchronized," a researcher said.
"With what?"
No one answered.
They all looked at Rimuru.
LOWER CONTAINMENT — OBSERVATION LOG
The camera showed the entity from before.
It hadn't moved.
But it hadn't disappeared either.
It remained visible. Stable. Present.
"…It's still there," someone said.
"And it's not destabilizing."
"That shouldn't be possible."
"No," the suited man said. "…It shouldn't."
UNAUTHORIZED EVENT DETECTED
A sudden alert cut through the silence.
"Containment breach?!" someone shouted.
"No," another replied. "…It's opening."
"What?"
The feed zoomed in.
A containment door was unlocking.
From the inside.
No override. No force. No command.
Just… opening.
"…That's impossible," someone said.
"It is now."
The door slid open slowly.
Nothing rushed out. Nothing attacked.
Something stepped forward.
Calm. Controlled. Intentional.
Rimuru watched quietly. "…It's coming here."
CONTROL ROOM
Security teams mobilized instantly. Weapons ready.
"Engage containment response!"
"Prepare suppression units!"
"Stand down."
The command stopped everything.
All eyes turned to the suited man.
"No engagement," he said.
"Are you serious?!" someone snapped.
"It's leaving containment!"
"…And it's not attacking," he replied.
A pause followed. "…Let it come."
🕳️ CORRIDOR APPROACH
The entity walked slowly. Not rushed.
Not aggressive.
Every step was deliberate.
Like it knew exactly where to go.
Personnel moved aside instinctively.
Not ordered. Just compelled.
Because something felt wrong.
Not dangerous.
But purposeful.
CONTROL ROOM
The door opened.
The entity stepped inside.
Silence followed instantly.
No alarms. No reactions.
Just stillness.
Rimuru turned slightly. "…Hey."
The entity stopped. Facing him.
The room held its breath.
"…You followed me?" Rimuru asked.
No answer came.
But the air shifted.
Recognition.
SYSTEM ALERT
The monitors flickered again.
ANOMALY BEHAVIOR: NON-HOSTILE ALIGNMENT DETECTED
CAUSE: UNKNOWN
Another line appeared.
POSSIBLE ANCHOR IDENTIFIED
The room froze.
"…Anchor?" someone whispered.
They all looked at Rimuru.
And understood.
The Foundation had tried for decades.
To stabilize anomalies. To control them.
But now, something impossible was happening.
Anomalies were stabilizing.
Because of him.
Not by force. Not by containment.
But by choice.
Rimuru sighed softly. "…This is getting complicated."
The entity didn't move.
But it didn't leave either.
It stayed.
Like it had decided.
