Chapter 168: Haven't Seen You in So Long, and Yet You're This Pathetic
The young girl could not comprehend the language of the man standing before her; after all, her mental age was still just that of an infant.
Ever since she could remember, she had been lying in bed with needles and tubes inserted all over her body. She had no choice. Fortunately, the television in the room continuously played various programs, which gradually allowed the young girl to learn language. Potimas had deliberately selected various educational programs, so even while confined to her bed, she managed to acquire a great deal of knowledge.
However, this was merely a single component of the old elf's experiments. The purpose was simply to test whether the young girl had developed to the intelligence level of an ordinary human.
Born solely for the sake of an experiment, the young girl did not know her mother—or rather, she did not know if she even had one. Because she was not a pure human. She was a new species born from Potimas's research into synthesized chimeras, blending genetic factors from different animals.
Chimeras were monsters created by taking Potimas's own genes as a baseline and mixing in all kinds of factors. The purpose was to gather research data in this field so that he could perfectly integrate the genes of the Dragon Race later on.
And the young girl was precisely one of these test subjects, built upon Potimas's genes and fused with the factors of four different animals: a spider, a crane, a sparrow, and one other. Although the young girl desperately hated to admit that Potimas and she shared a biological father-daughter relationship, it was nonetheless the truth. Of course, the other party had never treated her as a daughter; to Potimas, the young girl was merely one of his experimental animals.
(PS: Therefore, Ms. Oka and Ariel are half-sisters, and Shiro should technically call the teacher her great-aunt.)
Because the spider factor carried the heaviest weight, the young girl's body possessed the ability to generate spider deadly poison. Yet while she had the ability to produce the toxin, she had no way to break it down. As a result, her body was constantly eroded by the poison, leaving her bedridden all day long, relying on intravenous drips and nutrient fluids to survive. She would then occasionally have blood samples drawn, living completely like an experimental animal.
Before long, once all the data that could be obtained had been gathered, she would be slaughtered and disposed of like any other animal.
Fortunately.
One day, the young girl, covered in needles and tubes, was startled awake by a tremendous roar. What followed was a burst of fighting noises, and immediately after, a woman calling herself the Director of the Sariella Society descended from above like a deity coming to the rescue.
"My name is Sariel. What is your name?"
"Sa... Sariel?"
The young girl, unable to grasp the situation, instinctively repeated Sariel's name. Because her voice was weak, hoarse, and disjointed, the other party misheard it as "Ariel."
"What a coincidence, it's almost the exact same as my name."
It was such a trivial reason that decided the young girl's name. But Ariel did not mind at all, because this was the name given to her by that person.
Not long before Ariel was rescued, Potimas unexpectedly capsized in a ditch and became wanted all over the world. Following that, the Sariella Society, led by the Goddess, discovered children all across the globe who, just like the young girl, were chimeras born to be used as experimental animals.
Most of these children had their own specific issues. Coupled with the fact that society at the time did not know how to treat them, and the children's nationalities spanned the globe, quite a few international disputes arose. Because the abilities of some of these children were exceptionally dangerous or useful, various nations maintained a highly cautious attitude toward them. In the end, the heavy responsibility of settling the children was handed over to the Sariella Society—a charitable organization active throughout the world that belonged to no single nation.
The rescue society was involved in both medical care and orphanages; furthermore, they were completely neutral, making them the absolute best fit since they wouldn't use the children as biological weapons. Of course, there were also certain countries that, for their own self-interests, plotted to utilize the chimeras and secretly hid some children away. As the Director of the Sariella Society, Sariel personally took the lead to rush to the scenes and rescue them, so the ones left behind were essentially very few, though not entirely non-existent.
The Goddess exhausted all her strength, doing everything she could to rescue those children who would otherwise die physically or mentally in the near future. Although it was a tragic outcome, they had indeed received the Goddess's salvation.
The chimeras who were gathered together in a certain orphanage were Ariel's true brothers and sisters. The days spent in that orphanage were the happiest moments of her life. Therefore, she would never forgive Potimas for snatching that happy time away. She absolutely had to send the other party to the afterlife with her own hands.
...
A loudspeaker appearing from nowhere temporarily interrupted Ariel's memories. Potimas's mockery echoed from all directions.
"The expression on your face right now is truly pathetic. It seems you only amount to this much after all; the only one who truly makes me wary is that Gulie."
"My opponents are genuine gods. Did you really think you could defeat me?"
"You will always just be a little girl."
"Be that as it may, we are old acquaintances after all. It would be discourteous of me to pull my punches, so you are still worthy of my full efforts to eliminate you."
"This Gloria Omega Type was originally prepared to deal with Gulie. I'll test its power on you first."
The arrogant and insufferably obnoxious voice vanished from the loudspeaker.
Before Ariel, a massive mecha Gundam materialized, exquisitely and magnificently crafted, sporting a pair of energy wings on its back.
"The grievances of so many years will finally end today. The outside will also be wrapped up shortly. Farewell, my greatest failure."
The mecha Gundam began to operate, emitting intense energy fluctuations.
From beginning to end, Ariel remained completely silent, keeping her head lowered, leaving it unknown what she was thinking. It wasn't until the absolute moment the attack rained down that she snapped her head up, revealing a savage smile.
*Boom—*
The shockwave generated by the explosion blew away the surrounding walls and flooring, sending dust scattering in all directions.
Amidst the grey area swirling with smoke, a completely shattered piece of silver armor stepped out slowly from within. Blue energy fluid flowed through the fractured cracks of the armor's chest plating, and the light wings on its back were left in absolute tatters.
In the next instant, a small hand thrust out from the location of the armor's heart, grabbing the edge of the mechanical wreckage, and forcibly ripped out the core inside the armor's chest.
*Thud~*
The armor collapsed entirely, crashing into a pile of scrap metal junk.
Meanwhile, the young girl standing among the ruins curled the corners of her lips into a bizarre arc.
"To think you actually presumed to deal with a god with only this much?"
"You know absolutely nothing about the Divine Realm."
As her voice fell, she violently swung her arm, slamming a fist directly into the ground.
Accompanied by a low, rumbling roar, the ground beneath her feet cracked and collapsed, as a terrifying power akin to the abyss and hell blasted out a bottomless black hole.
Ariel tapped her foot lightly, leaping straight down, and landed inside a room packed with culture vessels.
Gazing at the utterly astonished withered old man inside the culture vessel, she let out a cold laugh. "Potimas, haven't seen you in so long, and yet you're this pathetic."
"..."
