Chapter 17 - Chapter Seventeen

Kevin smiled softly as Evan fell asleep, completely lax against his chest. He buried his nose against soft, white hair and planted a small kiss there before gently laying his husband down onto the moss to retrieve their clothes. He dressed the younger quickly but carefully, not wanting to rouse him from his fucked-out sleep but also wanting to avoid keeping his husband in the cool air.

He gathered the last of their effects, picked his husband up bridal style and set off towards their compound.

Previous to all of this, Kevin wasn't sure how he would be able to live with such a cold, closed off mate but with time he could see that it was all just a mask. And he couldn't wait to tear it apart. He wanted to make his mate comfortable and writhing with pleasure because of him he wanted more, more, more. Living with him was bliss.

He was glad that Evan had submitted after the hunt. And the sex was wild. He loved every cry every groan his mate made. But he didn't wanted Evan to be scared. He didn't want to dominate his mate.

He was sceptical at first. The only reason he finally agreed to Hunt was because of Evan. He was so much worried about his Luna duties. The Hunt proposal surprised him and at first the elder council Evan himself wasn't completely sold on the idea. It was a huge bargain. He could loose his freedom too. Devon was also not board with it.

The elders understood this. He could understand who was actually behind this. And had brainwashed his pack to ask for the hunt. But what really got the elders and the pack behind the idea was the opportunity to keep an eye on Evan, prevent him from going wild that would wipe them out.

But to Kevin it felt like humiliating his mate by giving him a lower role in society than he had before and parading him around in female clothing. The robe though he looked good was femine. And Kevin didn't wanted that for his mate.

But Evan had agreed to it all, not that Kevin would do such a thing. He would never humiliate Evan. Those practices, the rituals, were not common in the pack. Some old ancestoral customs. But in his pack mates were treated with love and care. And he was going to do that. Hunt or not.

But his recent worries were For Sebastian. For years since he's become the Pack Head, his beta had been fiercely against a treaty with Devon, did not trust a single one of them to not stab him in the back but when the matebonds were cemented between Celine and Stefan, he gave up. Sebastian only had a shadow over his face, obviously displeased about the situation. Kevin could only hope that Sebastian can also try and understand his mate. As Markian was trying

He neared the gates of his compound and could feel Markian waiting for them before he saw him. He is surprised. He had expected Stefan to wait. But Markian hadn't crossed his mind. Markian had also changed out of his formal shirt that he wore during the ceremony into a simple black tshirt. He was leaning against a wall, arms crossed and facing the ground but once Kevin landed in front of the entrance, he looked up, eyeing the pale man in his arms. He pushed off the wall and stalked towards them.

''You didn't rip anything?''

Kevin spluttered at the question, as if he would!

Markian nodded, ignoring his flailing, ''Good.'' He brushed the back of his hand against Evan's forehead and cheek, '' He's cold, better get him inside.'' Was all he said before turning around towards their home. Kevin stared at his gamma's back in suspicion and concern but followed him without a word.

''What made you wait?'' He broke the silence, and Markian glanced at him from the corner of his eye.

''Look Kevin, I understand he is your mate. And the peace that came along with it is beneficial for us, but I have seen the way he gets treated by others. And I cannot in good conscious support anyone treating even my enemy in such a way. Besides, I never hated Evan and a man like him deserves more respect than to be humiliated, So I came to check. Not that you wouldn't treat him right. But still I just wanted to make sure'' Markian ranted, ''We've had our fair share of conversations after the introduction that day. We have bumped into each other which happened quite often actually. No matter how he presents himself, Evan hated war. So maybe I could forgive him with time.'' Kevin listened intently, never before has his gamma spoke of his enemy in such a way, it would always be complaining about him but now that he thought about it, he always spoke of Evan like an old friend that enjoyed pissing him off rather than a mortal enemy. ''It wasn't hard to realise he was a self-sacrificing idiot, and he had faced many difficulties considering he was your mate all along.'' Kevin smiled relieved. Even though he had to have the talk regarding his pain with his mate. He was grateful to Markian for trying.

Kevin looked at the sleeping man in his arms, head tucked into his chest and a hand gripping the cloth of his robe in a loose fist and decided that he would make Evan happy.

Markian held the door open for him and muttered a quiet 'goodnight' before retiring to his house. Kevin carefully lay the sleeping man onto the bed and re dressed him into some comfortable night clothes before doing so himself. He was a little surprised that Evan didn't even stir but was glad his husband stayed asleep; he needed the rest.

He took in his husband's sleeping face, relaxed and vulnerable. He was such a beautiful man, it was a surprise nobody pointed it out before.

Pulling the pale man into his chest, he buried his nose into white hair and drifted off to sleep.
