Chapter 4 - An Unexpected Encouter

Wow…

The view before me was simply unreal.

After leaving Luz and Eda behind, I continued with my own preparations.

Along the way, I admired the magnificent infrastructure around me.

The houses looked like something from ancient times.

It felt magical.

Which, I suppose, was fitting.

After all, this world was literally built on magic.

The very ground beneath my feet…

was the corpse of the Titan.

Strange to think about.

But this wasn't the time to dwell on that.

Right now, I was searching for a potion stall.

You're probably wondering why.

Well…

there was a particular potion I needed.

Something that would certainly be useful in the near future.

But before that, I first needed something to trade.

After all…

the human money in my pockets was completely useless here.

Though that wasn't really a problem.

I had already realized something.

In this world, even the most ordinary human objects could be considered treasures.

Which was why I had brought a pack of cards, a wristwatch, and a pair of sunglasses.

Sure, it didn't sound impressive.

But here?

If I played my cards right…

I could sell them for quite a high price.

And then—

There it was.

Before me stood an old-looking stall.

A worn sign hung above it, written in words I couldn't understand.

But from the shelves lined with vials…

it was clearly a potion stand.

Heh.

Time to put my bartering skills to work.

I approached the vendor confidently.

But as soon as I got closer and looked at him properly…

I nearly swallowed my tongue.

The vendor was huge.

Pointed ears.

A massive jaw lined with sharp teeth, some reaching nearly to his cheeks.

A piercing stare that practically screamed—

Don't waste my time.

He stood over two meters tall.

And his lower body resembled a goat's.

Seeing him up close…

I gulped.

Then stepped forward.

"Good day, sir."

He lowered his massive head toward me.

"What do you want? Buying something? If not, leave."

"Uh… eheh…"

I laughed awkwardly.

"Well… yes, I'd like to buy a potion."

At those words, he seemed to soften slightly.

"Oh? And which potion would you like?"

"Well…"

I coughed.

"The thing is… I don't exactly have money."

The vendor's face darkened instantly.

"What?!"

He slammed a fist onto the table.

The wood visibly cracked.

I swallowed again.

"W-Well… I may not have money…"

"...but I can offer you objects of great value in exchange."

He stared at me with heavy sarcasm.

"Oh really?"

"Then let me see these 'objects of great value.'"

"Yes, yes, of course…" I said nervously.

Once I showed him, he'd definitely accept.

Then I'd get what I needed.

But just as I was about to reveal them—

someone stepped beside me.

Without even acknowledging my presence, the newcomer spoke to the vendor.

"Hello. Sorry to bother you…"

"Do you have a potion that can harden abominations?"

The moment I heard that voice—

I froze.

Th-that voice…

I knew it.

Slowly, I turned my head.

And my eyes widened in shock.

The person standing beside me…

looked over at me and frowned.

"What?"

"Do you want something?"

I tried to speak—

but my mouth stayed open.

Because the person standing beside me…

was none other than

Amity.
