Chapter 4 - The First Real Kill

Chapter 4: The First Real Kill

Night fell too quickly.

The forest turned silent.

Too silent.

Kairo sat on a low branch, hidden between thick leaves. His breathing was slow, controlled. Below him, the darkness stretched endlessly.

No fire.

No sound.

No mistakes.

Something's wrong…

The forest wasn't just dangerous.

It was watching.

A faint rustle.

Kairo's eyes snapped open.

He didn't move.

Another sound.

Closer.

Then—

A whisper.

"…Help…"

Kairo froze.

A girl stumbled into the clearing below.

Her body was covered in scratches. Her breathing uneven.

Her eyes—

Desperate.

"Please…" she whispered, looking around blindly. "Someone… help me…"

Kairo watched from above.

Silent.

Still.

Trap?

She fell to her knees.

Crying.

"I don't want to die…"

A pause.

Kairo's grip tightened on the branch.

Then—

A shadow moved behind her.

Fast.

Silent.

Deadly.

A boy lunged out of the darkness—

Blade in hand—

Straight for her neck.

Kairo moved.

Without thinking.

He dropped from the tree—

CLANG!

Steel met steel.

The attack stopped inches from her throat.

The girl screamed and crawled back.

Kairo stood between them now.

The attacker stepped back.

Surprised.

"…You?" the boy muttered.

Kairo said nothing.

His blade steady.

His eyes cold.

"You just saved her?" the boy scoffed. "Are you stupid?"

Silence.

"This isn't training anymore," the boy continued. "This is survival. If you don't kill… you die."

Kairo's voice was calm.

"I know."

"Then move."

The boy's grip tightened.

"Or I'll kill both of you."

A pause.

The girl behind Kairo trembled.

"P-please…" she whispered.

Kairo didn't look back.

If I walk away… she dies.

If I stay… I fight.

His decision came instantly.

"I'm not moving."

Silence.

Then—

The boy smiled.

"Good."

He attacked.

No More Hesitation

Fast.

Aggressive.

Desperate.

The blade cut through the air—

Aimed straight for Kairo's throat.

Kairo stepped aside.

Minimal movement.

Maximum efficiency.

The attack missed.

Before the boy could recover—

Kairo moved in.

Close.

Too close.

His blade flashed—

The boy blocked—

CLANG!

Sparks flew.

The forest echoed with steel.

The attacker was strong.

But reckless.

Kairo saw everything.

Every movement.

Every opening.

Too slow.

The boy lunged again—

Kairo shifted—

Turned—

And struck.

A clean cut across the chest.

The boy froze.

Blood spread.

His blade dropped.

"…No…" he whispered.

Then—

He fell.

Dead.

Silence After Death

The forest went quiet again.

Kairo stood still.

Breathing steady.

The girl stared at him.

Shaking.

Terrified.

"You… killed him…" she whispered.

Kairo didn't respond.

He looked at the body.

Then at his blade.

There was no hesitation this time.

No shaking.

No doubt.

Just…

Stillness.

A Dangerous Realization

It's getting easier.

That thought came quietly.

But it hit hard.

Kairo's grip tightened slightly.

Behind him—

The girl spoke again.

"Thank you…" she said softly.

Kairo turned.

Their eyes met.

For a brief moment…

Something flickered inside him.

A memory.

A feeling.

Then—

It disappeared.

"Don't follow me," Kairo said coldly.

The girl froze.

"B-but—"

"If you stay with me… you'll die."

A pause.

"Or worse."

He turned.

And walked away.

Watched From Above

High in the trees—

Hidden in darkness—

Someone had seen everything.

A masked assassin.

"…He didn't hesitate," the man whispered.

A second figure appeared beside him.

"And yet… he saved her first."

Silence.

"…Interesting," the second voice said.

Far above them—

Watching from an even deeper shadow—

A familiar presence stood.

Master Raizen.

His eyes locked onto Kairo.

"…You're changing," he murmured.

End of Chapter 4

As Kairo disappeared deeper into the forest…

He didn't notice something.

A shadow moving silently behind him.

Following.

Waiting.

Cliffhanger:

Kairo survived his first real kill… but now someone stronger is hunting him in the forest.
