Chapter 2 - Chapter -2 Touch That Should Not Exist

The moment their magic touched…

…it refused to let go.

Lyra didn't understand what she was feeling.

Only that it was wrong.

And that it was too late to stop it.

The thin thread of violet woven into her golden flame pulsed again—stronger this time, deeper, as if something unseen had just taken a breath inside her.

She staggered back.

"No…"

Her voice came out barely steady. No, this isn't—this isn't supposed to happen."

Aurelian didn't move.

Didn't breathe.

Didn't even blink.

Because he felt it too.

The darkness around him—his darkness—had gone still.

Not restless.

Not wild.

But listening"To me," he said quietly.

Lyra froze.

"What?"

His gaze lifted slowly to hers.

"That magic… it's not reacting to you."

A pause.

"It's reacting to us."

The word settled between them.

Heavy.

Dangerous.Unavoidable.

Lyra shook her head quickly, stepping back again.

"No. No, that's not possible."

"It already happened."

"That doesn't mean anything!"

But even as she said it—

Her flame betrayed her.

It flickered again.

Then stretched.Not outward.

Not randomly.

Toward him.

Like it recognized him.

Like it wanted him.

Her breath caught sharply.

"Stop," she whispered, clenching her hand.

The fire resisted.

Aurelian's jaw tightened. You're not controlling it anymore."

"I am."

"You're not."

Something in his tone snapped inside her.

"Don't tell me what I can't control!"

The flame surged violently this time—bursting higher, brighter, wild enough that it should have burned the air itself.

But instead—

It twisted.

Golden light wrapped around strands of violet shadow.

Not fighting.

Not destroying.

Binding.

Lyra stared at it in horror.

"What… is this?"

Aurelian stepped forward.

Too close.

Far too close.

But this time. She didn't move away.

Because she couldn't.

"Answer me," she demanded.

His voice dropped.

Lower.

More dangerous.

"Something ancient."

Her heart skipped.

"That's not an answer."

"It's the only one you're getting right now."Frustration flared in her chest—but beneath it…

Something else.

Something softer.

More dangerous.

"Why aren't you afraid?" she asked suddenly.

Aurelian went still.

The question caught him off guard.

Just slightly.

But enough."I am," he said.

The honesty hit harder than anything else.

Lyra frowned.

"No, you're not."

His gaze locked onto hers.

Dark.

Unreadable.

"Not of you."

Her breath hitched.Silence stretched.

Thick.

Heavy.

Charged with something neither of them could name.

The distance between them felt smaller now.

Not physically.

But in every other way.

"You should leave," he said again.

But this time—

It sounded less like a warning.More like a struggle.

Lyra didn't move.

"Then why aren't you making me?"

Aurelian exhaled slowly.

His control—carefully built, painfully maintained—was starting to crack.

And he knew it.

"Because," he said quietly,

"If I touch you…"He stopped.

Jaw tightening.

Lyra's pulse quickened.

"If you touch me… what?"

He stepped closer.

Close enough now that she could feel the cold edge of his presence brushing against her warmth.

Close enough that her fire flickered in response.

"I don't know what will happen," he finished Her breath softened.

Barely there.

"Then don't."

But she didn't step back.

Aurelian noticed.

Of course he did.

"You're not afraid either," he said.

Lyra swallowed.

"I should be."But you're not."

A pause.

Then—

"No."

The air between them shifted again.

Deeper now.

More dangerous than before.

The flame in her hand dimmed slightly.

Not fading.

Waiting.Lyra."

Her name on his lips felt different.

Like something he wasn't supposed to say.

Like something that belonged to a moment that hadn't happened yet.

"How do you know my name?" she whispered.

Aurelian froze.

Because he didn't.

Not consciously.His expression darkened.

"I didn't realize I said it."

A chill ran down her spine.

"That's not possible."

"No," he said quietly.

"It isn't."

And yet—

Here they were.

Something unseen shifted around them. The ruins felt smaller.

The night heavier.

Watching.

Waiting.

Lyra's voice softened.

"Something is wrong."

Aurelian's gaze didn't leave hers.

"Yes."A pause.

"But it's not just the magic."

Her breath slowed.

"Then what is it?"

He hesitated.

And that alone was enough to unsettle her.

Then—

"I don't think this is the first time our powers have met."The words sent a sharp pulse through her chest.

"That's impossible. We've never—"

The flame flared again.

Cutting her off.

This time—

It wasn't reaching.

It was responding.

To him.To something inside him.

Lyra gasped as heat surged up her arm—stronger than before, deeper, almost painful.

"Aurelian—"

And then—

He moved.

Fast.

Instinctive.

Without thinking.

His hand closed around her wrist. The moment skin touched skin—

Everything shattered.

The fire exploded.

The shadows surged.

The world—

Stopped.

Lyra couldn't breathe.

Not because she was choking.

But because something had locked around her chest—tight, consuming, overwhelming Images flashed.

Not memories.

Not dreams.

Something else.

A battlefield.

Burning skies.

A scream that didn't belong to her—

Yet tore through her throat anyway.

Aurelian staggered slightly, his grip tightening involuntarily.

He saw it too.

Felt it.

Not her memories.

Theirs.

"Let go!" Lyra gasped.

But he couldn't.

Because something had already taken hold A sharp pulse of power surged through both of them—

Violent.

Ancient.

Awake.

And then—

A voice.

Not in the air.

Not in the temple.

Inside them. You have found each other… at last."

Lyra's eyes widened in terror.

"No—"

Aurelian's expression darkened instantly.

Because he recognized that voice.

And it should have been impossible.

"Now the bond will awaken."

The sigil beneath his skin burned violently The mark on Lyra's wrist ignited in response.

Their hands were still locked together.

And neither of them could pull away.

Because the truth was no longer avoidable.

This wasn't attraction.

This wasn't coincidence.

This was something far worse.Something that had been waiting—

For them.

And as the power surged again—But what they had always been.

And why…

Stronger.

Deeper.

Unstoppable—

Aurelian finally understood.

Not what they were becoming.
