The afternoon sun beat down on the pavement as I stepped out of another café.
Rejected.
Again.
I let out a slow breath before glancing down at the small list I'd written that morning, every place I'd crossed off had ended the same way.
'We'll give you a call.'
They never did.
Only one name remained, I looked up, across the street sat a small bookstore tucked between a florist and an old bakery. The faded wooden sign read:
Story Haven Books
A small smile tugged at my lips.
"...One more."
Crossing the road, I stopped outside the front window and my reflection stared back at me.
Hair still neat, shirt wasn't wrinkled. I tucked a loose strand behind my ear before straightening my shoulders.
"You've got this."
Taking a deep breath, I pushed open the door.
A small bell chimed overhead.
Immediately...
The smell found me.
