Suotuo City.
Shrek Academy.
Inside Yu Xiaogang's bedroom, after finishing a training session with Ma Hongjun and the others, Yu Xiaogang was enjoying a wonderful foot soak while sipping a cup of hot tea.
Ever since he secured financial support from Liu Erlong, his life at Shrek Academy had become significantly more comfortable. Not only that but Ma Hongjun and Oscar were both proving to be quite promising.
Combined with Dai Mubai, who had joined Shrek Academy a few years prior, the strength of his "revenge team" had grown considerably sturdier.
Just a few days ago, Zhu Zhuqing, who had come looking for Dai Mubai, actually despised Dai Mubai so much that she wanted to leave Shrek Academy altogether, especially after realizing they could no longer execute their Martial Soul Fusion Skill.
How could he allow that? Fortunately, his reputation as the "Grandmaster" still carried considerable weight.
The moment he showcased a Four-in-One Fusion Skill, Zhu Zhuqing—who merely sought self-preservation—ultimately chose to stay behind.
She had submitted to his wisdom as the Grandmaster.
Because everything was finally turning around for the better, Yu Xiaogang had picked up his pen to write research papers once again. In his heart, his wisdom was the one thing that absolutely no one was allowed to look down upon.
By now, Yu Xiaogang had successfully authored three research papers, all of which had been published and distributed by Spirit Hall.
They were titled:
"On Obtaining Powerful Soul Rings When Martial Soul Characteristics Do Not Manifest", "On How Soul Masters Create Their Own Soul Skills Through Martial Soul Characteristics", and "How to Set Up Mimicry Cultivation Environments for Beast Martial Soul Masters".
Ever since Yu Xiaogang published these three papers, his reputation among civilian Soul Masters had soared to new heights. Some people even genuinely believed that Yu Xiaogang was a true Grandmaster.
These three research papers essentially solidified Yu Xiaogang's title as the Grandmaster. Even if Xiao Lin were to write far superior papers in the future, it would be difficult for anyone to claim that Yu Xiaogang wasn't a true Grandmaster anymore.
Take the first paper, for instance.
It discussed how a Martial Soul could acquire a Soul Ring with an attribute completely different from its own nature. For example, allowing an ordinary plant-type Martial Soul to obtain a powerful poison-attributed Soul Ring, or even ice and fire attributes.
Because when a Martial Soul's characteristics do not fully manifest, the Martial Soul itself possesses room for modification, making it entirely possible to add other attributes.
In reality, Yu Xiaogang himself was a victim of this very theory, but that was solely because his own innate talent was far too abysmal.
If any Soul Master with decent talent were to try it, as long as they didn't choose overly extreme attributes for their Martial Soul, change was entirely achievable.
Take Dai Mubai of Shrek Academy right now.
Yu Xiaogang had spoken to him about this before.
Since their clan's Martial Soul Fusion Skill was the Hell White Tiger, why shouldn't Dai Mubai directly acquire Soul Rings with the Hell attribute?
This advice had granted a glimmer of hope to Dai Mubai, who had just joined Shrek Academy at the time and was full of regret for not bringing Zhu Zhuqing along with him.
Now, Dai Mubai's third soul skill was precisely the Hell White Tiger Transformation. Its effectiveness was vastly superior to the traditional Soul Ring selections passed down through the Dai Clan lineage.
As for Yu Xiaogang's second paper on how to create one's own soul skills, it essentially taught plant-type Martial Soul Masters how to master binding techniques, and sword or blade-type Martial Soul Masters how to master slashing techniques.
The skills themselves weren't exceptionally powerful, but they allowed the vast majority of Soul Masters to prioritize strengthening their innate abilities when acquiring Soul Rings. Overall, it still enhanced a Soul Master's original combat strength.
As for the third paper, it fell directly within Yu Xiaogang's core area of expertise.
Yu Xiaogang naturally knew the habitats of many Soul Beasts. By altering the details of these similar Soul Beast habitats slightly, he adapted them into the mimicry environments required for Soul Masters to cultivate, and then published the findings.
To many civilian Soul Masters, this particular paper was by far the most precious.
It was also the true reason why Yu Xiaogang would forever hold the title of Grandmaster.
After finishing his foot soak, Yu Xiaogang smiled to himself with immense self-satisfaction. He then eagerly picked up his own research papers to read. Reading through his own published works before going to sleep had become a habit he indulged in every single day over the past few months.
However, just as Yu Xiaogang was preparing to admire his thesis once more, the heavy wooden door to his bedroom was suddenly rattled by a knock.
Knock, knock, knock!
"Xiaogang, can I come in?"
Flender's urgent voice echoed from outside the room.
"Flender? Come in!"
Pulling his feet back out from under the blanket where he had just tucked them, Yu Xiaogang instantly assumed his dignified, composed posture as the Grandmaster.
"Xiaogang, what on earth is wrong with you?"
The moment he heard Yu Xiaogang's response, Flender burst through the door, shouting in frustration.
"Me?" Yu Xiaogang looked utterly bewildered, staring blankly at the furious Flender.
"What did I do now?"
"Xiaogang, let me ask you—what is this nonsense about you approaching Qin Ming to join the Heaven Dou Imperial Academy?" Flender was genuinely shaking with anger, reaching out to grab Yu Xiaogang by the collar to demand answers.
"Do you have any idea how I managed to borrow that money from Erlong?"
Faced with Flender's interrogation, Yu Xiaogang grew even more confused.
"Flender, what are you talking about? Didn't I borrow that money from Sister Erlong myself?" Yu Xiaogang snapped, slapping Flender's hands away as his confusion turned to indignation.
"Yu Xiaogang, you are truly too arrogant! The only reason Erlong lent us that money was because I promised her that I would eventually bring the students over to the Blue Tyrant Academy."
Flender glared at Yu Xiaogang, deeply hurt that the man had taken it upon himself to decide the fate of his beloved Shrek Academy.
"Erlong only did it as a favor to me, on the condition that I bring you along when the time comes. That's how we got the money, and that's the only reason she allowed us to keep the Shrek Academy name! And now, you want Shrek Academy to merge into the Heaven Dou Imperial Academy?"
"What about my life's work? Does it mean absolutely nothing to you?"
"Flender, have you lost your mind? Why should I go to the Blue Tyrant Academy just because of you? Aren't you doing the exact same thing?" Facing Flender's accusations, Yu Xiaogang didn't panic in the least.
"Besides, if you want Shrek Academy to take first place in the Continental Elite Young Soul Master Tournament, the Heaven Dou Imperial Academy is your absolute best option."
Yu Xiaogang let out a cold snort before adding, "In any case, Little Ma and the others are your very last batch of students. What is the point of clinging so desperately to the Shrek name anymore?"
"You... you... you are completely unreasonable!"
Pushed past his limit by Yu Xiaogang's callous words, Flender raised his right hand high and brought it swinging down.
Slap!
Following the crisp, ringing sound, Yu Xiaogang's cheek instantly swelled up, burning bright red.
Yu Xiaogang stared at Flender in absolute disbelief, his eyes wide with shock.
"Flender, you dare hit me?!" Yu Xiaogang roared.
He bolted to his feet, glaring fiercely at Flender as if he were ready to throw himself into a fistfight, "Without me, what would your Shrek Academy even be? Without me, could Little Ma and the others have achieved what they have today?"
"Hmph!" Flender scoffed, his voice dripping with disdain, "If you're so capable, then why do you need to push my Shrek students into the Heaven Dou Imperial Academy?"
"I am doing all of this to defeat Xiao—"
Yu Xiaogang opened his mouth to shout, but a sudden jolt of pain from his Martial Soul backlash warned him, forcing him to shut his mouth instantly.
Seeing Yu Xiaogang suddenly go speechless, Flender sneered once more.
"Let me tell you something. That Heaven Dou Imperial Academy you are so eager to join? The Emperor Team has already rejected us. And it was my own student, Qin Ming, who personally delivered the rejection!"
"That's impossible!" Yu Xiaogang retorted immediately.
Even if the Emperor Team was formidable, there was no way Ma Hongjun and the others weren't even qualified to be reserves.
"What do you mean impossible? I've already thrown away all my dignity in front of Qin Ming!"
Flender threw Qin Ming's letter directly into Yu Xiaogang's face.
Completely stunned and disheartened, Yu Xiaogang slowly unfurled Qin Ming's letter with trembling hands.
