The Duke of York, now the King, along with his wife and two daughters, Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret, were hiding in Balmoral castle to escape the Second World War happening on the mainland.
At this time, Princess Elizabeth was only 13 years old.
The Duke of York was reading the newspaper in his hand.
After a silent breakfast, the young and naive Princess Elizabeth suddenly said, "Father, are we just going to hide here, doing nothing?"
