His nails extended, sharp as razors, and he slashed at me with an aggressive ferocity. I quickly sidestepped his attack, narrowly avoiding his deadly claws. But his pursuit was unrelenting, and he closed in on me with incredible speed, unleashing a powerful kick toward my stomach. Reacting quickly, I blocked his kick with the palm of my hand, but the force behind it sent me flying backward, my hand trembling from the impact. Miraculously, I managed to land on my feet after executing a fluid midair backflip.
As I faced the formidable vampire, I knew I was no match for him purely on a physical level. His monstrous, hyper-dense physique was a clear indication that he had been alive and feeding for more than five centuries. In a split second, tapping into my new attribute, I conjured up an invisible shield of Willpower to protect myself from his impending punch.
To his utter surprise, his fist made solid contact with an impenetrable barrier, halting him completely. Meanwhile, the shapeshifter had morphed into a massive, 2.5-meter-tall grizzly bear and charged toward Chloe with a terrifying, locomotive speed that completely belied his heavy build. But Chloe remained ice-cold and focused, her eyes glowing a brilliant, intense crimson with a power that swelled heavier by the second.
As the charging bear approached her, she simply vanished into thin air, entirely evading his deadly swipe and causing him to crash headfirst into a reinforced structural wall, leaving a massive, spiderweb-like crack in his wake. The bear was momentarily disoriented by Chloe's sudden disappearance, but before he could react, she reappeared directly behind him like a ghost. With fluid, terrifying grace, she thrust her hand straight through his chest from behind, retrieving his still-beating heart in a single, brutal motion. At first, the beast didn't even realize what had happened, but as he saw fresh blood dripping from his shattered sternum onto the concrete, he turned and looked at Chloe with absolute horror.
She stood before him, her face cold and emotionless, casually holding his twitching heart in her hand. Enraged and desperate, the bear tried to lash out at Chloe, but before he could take a single step, she closed her fist and crushed his heart into a bloody pulp. The light in his eyes flickered and died instantly as he collapsed to the ground, defeated.
As I saw the terrifying ease with which she dismantled the shifter, I was sharply reminded of her true status as a True Blood vampire and the frightening sobriquet she commanded in the underworld: the 'Blood Dragon'. As witnesses to the swift execution of the shifter, the werewolf and the magician looked at Chloe with an unprecedented, deeply serious gaze.
"You... you are a True Vampire!" the werewolf stammered, his yellow eyes filled with a sudden, palpable jolt of fear.
The one who looked most terrified, however, was the vampire with whom I was actively locked in combat. He stared at her in abject, freezing terror. Earlier, when he had first seen her, he knew she was a powerful aristocrat, but because she hadn't actively released her suppressive aura, he had completely failed to recognize her true lineage.
You need to understand that the coercive pressure True Blood vampires exert on normal vampires is immense—an innate, insurmountable difference of bloodlines, a stark hierarchy of lifeforms. Sensing that he was thoroughly distracted by shock, I didn't miss a beat. I willed invisible blades to slice him apart. The formless willpower instantly took the shape of a razor-sharp saber and whipped through the air toward the paralyzed vampire.
He tensed violently as he felt the lethal danger closing in, but he couldn't dodge it; his reflexes simply couldn't outpace the speed of thought. Blood splashed across the floor as one of his arms was cleanly severed from his body. Another wet slash followed, and both of his legs were removed in an instant, leaving him twitching on the concrete like a fish out of water.
I sped forward, materializing next to his pathetic figure before any of his surviving allies could realize something was going horribly wrong. With a swift sweep of my Will, I removed his head entirely from his shoulders.
The mage, realizing the situation was rapidly spinning out of control with two of his key operatives already out of commission, let out a low curse.
"You... what on earth are you, and what kind of bizarre spell was that?" he demanded, sounding both intensely curious and furiously desperate.
"No matter. I'll simply have the time to slowly torture the answer out of you later," he muttered, calming himself before pulling a small glass vial filled with a glowing blue liquid from his coat. He tossed it to the werewolf, who caught it deftly and sniffed it cautiously. As the aroma hit him, a voracious, manic smile spread across his face, and he gulped it down instantly. The moment the mysterious concoction hit his system, a rapid, loud snapping of bones echoed through the room as his body violently expanded, transforming him into a towering, two-meter-tall beast standing menacingly on his hind legs.
As Chloe witnessed the sudden metamorphosis, her eyes narrowed dangerously, and she spoke aloud for the first time since our arrival.
"What on earth did you give him? He now radiates the absolute signature of a true Lycanthrope," she challenged the mage.
The mage merely offered a twisted, confident smile. "A little chemical booster to help us send you two straight to hell. Since I can realistically only manage one of you, I'll leave the other to him. I feel you are by far the greater threat, so I'll handle you personally. Aren't you grateful?" he asked, looking at Chloe with overt malice.
The newly morphed werewolf trained his glowing, bloodshot gaze entirely on me, radiating an overwhelming, suffocating amount of bloodlust. Looking at his terrifying new physique and bulging muscle mass, I instantly knew this wasn't going to be anywhere near as effortless as disposing of the arrogant vampire.
When I had first mentally ranked them upon our arrival, my internal hierarchy went: Mage, Vampire, Werewolf, Shifter. But now, augmented by whatever performance-enhancing elixir he had just ingested, the threat level I felt from him had spiked exponentially. The situation was officially f***ed, carrying a very real, highly probable risk of my fifth death.
Sensing the shift, Chloe glanced over at me with deep worry, realizing she wouldn't have a single spare second to assist me in my fight, as surviving a duel with the high-tier mage was going to demand her absolute, undivided attention. I smiled at her reassuringly and projected a message directly into her mind using my Will:
Don't worry about it. I literally can't die. Just focus on yourself and be careful with the mage.
She looked slightly comforted, returning a brief, tight smile before shifting her full, lethal focus back to her opponent.
It's important to note that the terrified factory workers were still frozen mid-action, locked rigidly in place by the mage's lingering spell; I had no way of knowing whether they were even conscious of the absolute bloodbath unfolding around them.
The monstrous wolf suddenly pounced, blurring into a dark shadow. He moved with such blistering speed that I couldn't even shift my weight to evade his charge. He materialized right in front of me in the blink of an eye, delivering a vicious, heavy slap with his massive paw. I felt a bone-crushing impact against my ribs that sent me airborne, hurtling straight through a reinforced glass window and out of the building. I slammed violently onto the concrete outside, instantly hacking up a mouthful of warm blood from internal injuries.
I struggled back to my feet, wincing in pain, only to be greeted by an unbelievable sight: a gigantic, hulking shadow plummeting from the sky directly toward me. I didn't hesitate, throwing myself into a desperate backward flip. The werewolf crashed into the pavement where I had been standing a microsecond prior with a thunderous BOOM, cracking the concrete. Unbothered by the impact, he immediately rose and locked his intense, feral eyes back onto me.
BOOM!!
Before we could trade blows again, a deafening explosion echoed from deep within the building, blowing a massive, jagged hole clean through the roof. Two blurs of energy flashed upward, stopping mid-air. It was Chloe and the mage.
Chloe's designer clothes were slightly scorched and torn in places, but she remained remarkably uninjured, bearing only a few minor scratches. The mage, however, looked infinitely worse for wear. His long black coat was completely gone, his shirt was shredded into rags, and he was actively bleeding from deep puncture holes on his neck alongside vicious slashing wounds covering his entire body.
