Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: The Calm Before the Storm

(Liam's POV)

The air hung heavy with anticipation as I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the collar of my tuxedo, the fabric cool against my skin. The room was filled with the scent of fresh flowers and the soft glow of the bright lights above. Linna stood nearby, donning her wedding gown—an exquisite gown that fit her perfectly and accentuated every curve. Yet, despite the beauty of the moment, a lingering heaviness settled in the pit of my stomach.

This was the day before the wedding, a time meant for excitement and joy. And yet, as Linna and I exchanged polite smiles and practiced compliments, it felt more like a prelude to a great revelation than a celebration. The intricate details of our attire—the delicate lace of her gown and the sharp lines of my tuxedo—seemed to serve as mere decorations for the truth that loomed just beneath the surface.

"You look stunning," I said, trying to infuse sincerity into my words. Linna turned to me, a practiced smile on her lips, though I could see the flicker of uncertainty in her eyes.

"Thank you," she replied, her voice soft yet tinged with nervous energy. "And you look incredibly handsome. They'll be talking about this wedding for years to come."

Her words, like mine, were veiled in irony, the surface sweetness disguising the deeper currents swirling beneath. We both knew this moment was a facade, a temporary illusion that offered a brief respite from the truths we'd been avoiding. As I looked at her, I couldn't shake the feeling that we were both actors in a play, performing our roles the best we could while awaiting the final curtain, where the truth would unspool before us like an unraveling tapestry.

"Everything is… beautiful, isn't it?" she continued, glancing around the room as if attempting to convince both herself and me that this was the moment we had both dreamed of. "This is how it's supposed to be."

"Yes, it is," I replied, my voice lacking the enthusiasm I wished I could project. Although everything looked perfect, we both stood on the precipice of something significant, and it made the environment feel almost surreal.

Just then, a soft melody began to play from the sound system hidden in the corner of the room. The sweet strains of a classic love song filled the air, weaving an atmosphere soaked in nostalgia. Linna's expression shifted as she paused, her brow knitting in contemplation before a mixture of determination and vulnerability crept into her eyes.

"Would you… dance with me?" she asked, her voice steady yet soft, as though she were inviting me to step into a moment of solace amidst the chaos surrounding us.

"Here?" I questioned, my heart quickening at the thought. I had expected some lighthearted banter and a few more superficial compliments, but this felt different. Something about the way she said it struck a chord deep within me, the challenge of stepping into the unknown calling out like a siren.

"Why not?" she replied, a hint of a smile breaking through the mask of tension on her face. "We both know this isn't just any ordinary wedding, and soon it'll all change. Let's have this dance before we step into new territory."

Nodding silently, I stepped closer, taking her hand and pulling her gently into my embrace. As we swayed to the music, my heart raced—not only from the dance but from the weight of everything that lay dormant between us.

Linna leaned her head against my shoulder, and for a moment, the world outside melted away. "Do you remember how we felt a year ago?" she asked softly, her voice almost a whisper.

"Of course," I replied, allowing the memories to wash over me—the laughter, the shared excitement, the moments that made us feel like we were invincible together. "We were so full of hope, dreams weaving seamlessly into the future."

"And then things started to shift," she continued, her tone shifting as she pulled back slightly to look into my eyes. "We became distant, lost in our own worlds. The excitement faded, and suddenly, we found ourselves more like… roommates than partners."

I felt the sting of those words resonate within my chest. The truth was unavoidable; our relationship had morphed over the months, the vibrant colors dulling into muted shades of gray. The wedding, which should have felt like an exhilarating step forward, had instead become a stage for confrontation.

"Maybe we lost sight of what mattered," I admitted, a wave of regret washing over me. "We were so focused on what we thought we needed to do that we forgot about what we were actually feeling."

Her gaze held steady, and I could see understanding reflected in her eyes. "It's like we didn't want to confront the realities of our feelings. We kept pushing everything aside, hoping it would sort itself out. But now here we are, on the brink of the what we really feels that feels more like a gamble than the truth itself."

The music played on, the notes floating around us—an ephemeral reminder of fleeting moments filled with laughter, love, and hope. Each note felt heavy with significance, as if the universe was guiding us to confront the truths we both needed to acknowledge.

"Tomorrow marks a new beginning," Linna said, her voice steady but laced with an undercurrent of vulnerability. "But I think before we take that step, we owe it to ourselves—no, to each other—to face everything that has gone unspoken. To acknowledge the love we've built, and to the that we need to face a long time ago.

"I agree," I whispered, my heart pounding in rhythm with the music. "It's time to unravel the truth. Tomorrow may change things, but it's important we do it honestly. Whatever happens, we need to come to terms with everything."

As we danced, I took a deep breath, drawing courage from the moment we shared. It was ironic—here we were, both overwhelmed and anxious, poised for a new chapter, yet still grappling with the unresolved threads of our past.

In that fragile space, cocooned in each other's arms, I felt the unspoken promises between us swell like a tide—an acknowledgment that despite the uncertainty ahead, we were ready to face what lay beneath the surface. The dance became a silent testament to our commitment to not only our future but to the journey we had taken to arrive at this point separately.

With every turn and step, the weight of sadness began to lessen, revealing flickers of clarity shining through. I realized that it wasn't solely about tomorrow; it was about the conversations we needed to have, the truths that had been kept at arm's length for far too long.

As the song playing, we found ourselves enveloped in a gentle silence, the room echoing with the unspoken words that hung in the air. There was comfort in the realization that we were on the same page; we both sought the truth and, in doing so, were finally taking the steps toward understanding the love that had once intertwined our lives and helps us to face the truth that was about to come.

"I'm glad we had this moment," Linna finally said, her voice barely above a whisper. "No matter what comes next, I will always be there for you."

"Me too," I replied earnestly, holding her gaze, knowing that this dance had not only reminded us of the love we shared but also of the necessity of confronting the shadows that lingered between us.

As the music began to fade. I started to build my couraged to say everything what I was supposed to say a long time ago. I look at Linna's gaze and cope her hand. "I need to confession something. " I said it with with confident voice as if I was ready to embrace what the truth's may bring upon us.
