Chapter 29 - Chapter 29

The following week was a fragile balance of stolen happiness and growing shadows.

Mornings with Stefan had become my sanctuary. I'd wake up wrapped in his arms, his body warm and solid against mine. Today was no different. Sunlight spilled across the bed as I shifted, pressing lazy kisses along his collarbone. Stefan stirred with a low hum, his hand sliding down my bare back to cup my ass.

"Morning," he murmured, voice rough with sleep and desire. He rolled us so I was on top, straddling his hips. I could already feel him hardening beneath me.

I leaned down, kissing him deeply as I rocked slowly against him. "I don't want to leave this bed today."

"Then don't," he growled, gripping my hips and guiding me onto him in one smooth motion.

I gasped at the stretch, head falling back as I took him to the hilt. We moved together in a slow, sensual rhythm—my hands braced on his chest, his thumbs stroking my nipples as I rode him. The pleasure built gradually, deliciously, until we both came undone with quiet, shared moans, foreheads pressed together.

Afterward, we showered together. His hands soaped every inch of my body, followed by his mouth. By the time we finally made it downstairs, it was nearly noon.

But the peace shattered quickly.

My dad had barely spoken to me since the revelation about Meredith. He spent most of his time at the school or locked in his room, researching ways to "fix" the ring or neutralize vampires. Every conversation ended in arguments.

That afternoon, I was at the Boarding House helping Bonnie research suppression spells for the ring's side effects when Elena showed up looking shaken.

"Stefan's helping me with something," she said quietly. "Dad's old journals… we're trying to find anything that might explain what's happening to Alaric."

I nodded, trusting them both. "Okay. I'll be here when you're done."

Hours passed. I tried not to overthink it. But when I went looking for Stefan near sunset, I found them in the library.

Elena was crying softly, and Stefan had his arms around her, holding her close as she buried her face in his chest. He was stroking her hair, murmuring something too quiet for me to hear.

My stomach dropped.

For a moment, all I could see was their history — the epic love story everyone in this town still whispered about. The girl he had chosen first. The girl who looked exactly like Katherine.

I turned and walked away before they could see me, heart pounding with a painful mix of jealousy and insecurity.

Stefan found me later that evening in the woods behind the house, sitting on a fallen log, staring at the ground.

"Myra?" He approached cautiously. "What's wrong?"

I stood up, arms crossed. "I saw you with Elena. Holding her. Comforting her like… like she was still yours."

Stefan's eyes widened. "It wasn't like that. She was upset about Jeremy and your dad. She needed a friend. That's all."

"You had your arms around her," I said, voice cracking. "The way you used to. And I just… I know you loved her. I know I'm the rebound, the second choice after everything fell apart with her. Especially now that my own dad hates what you are."

Stefan stepped closer, pain flashing across his face. "Myra, no. You are not second to anyone. I love *you*. What I had with Elena… it's in the past. You're my present. My future."

I wanted to believe him. But the insecurity had dug its claws in deep, especially with everything happening with my dad.

"I need some time," I whispered, stepping back. "Just… give me a little space tonight."

His jaw clenched, but he nodded. "Okay. But I'm not going anywhere. I love you."

I walked away before I could break down in front of him.

I ended up at the Grill, nursing a drink alone at the bar when Klaus appeared.

"Well, if it isn't the little witch who stole my Ripper," he said smoothly, sliding onto the stool beside me. "Trouble in paradise already?"

"Leave me alone, Klaus."

He smirked. "Stefan always was sentimental. Quick to comfort the damsel in distress. Tell me — does it sting knowing he still runs to Elena when she cries?"

His words hit exactly where it hurt. I finished my drink and stood up. "I said leave me alone."

But Klaus wasn't done. He followed me outside. "You deserve better than a man whose heart is still half-tied to another. I could give you the world, love."

I spun around and hit him with a powerful aneurysm spell. He dropped to one knee, laughing through the pain.

"Feisty. I like that."

I left him there and drove home, mind spinning.

Stefan was waiting on my porch when I got back.

"Myra, please talk to me."

The sight of him — worried, desperate — broke through my walls. I walked straight into his arms. He held me tightly, kissing the top of my head.

"I'm sorry," I whispered. "I let my fears get the best of me. Seeing you with her… it brought up old insecurities."

Stefan pulled back and cupped my face. "You are the only one I want. The only one I love. Let me prove it."

He kissed me fiercely, backing me into the house and up the stairs to my room. We didn't even make it to the bed. He lifted me onto my desk, shoving papers aside as he yanked my jeans down. His mouth was on me instantly — hot, urgent, devouring. I came hard against his tongue, crying out his name.

Then he was inside me, thrusting deep and fast, one hand gripping my thigh, the other tangled in my hair.

"You're mine," he growled between kisses. "Only mine."

"Yes," I moaned, legs locked around him. "Only yours, Stefan."

We came together in a shattering climax, clinging to each other like the world might tear us apart.

Afterward, lying in my bed with his arms around me, I traced patterns on his chest.

"I trust you," I whispered. "I'm sorry for doubting."

He kissed me softly. "We'll get through this. Your dad, Klaus, all of it. Together."

But as we drifted off, neither of us knew that my dad had been watching from the hallway — eyes dark with the ring's influence and a dangerous new resolve.

And Klaus was already planning his next move.

The misunderstanding might be resolved between us, but the real storm was only beginning.
