Chapter 16 - °Sixteen•Chosen One°

I squirm in bed as I woke up from the soft material under me. Why did I wake up? The bed is so comfy but I still woke up? Am I disturbed? I looked around to see nothing peculiar. I guess I'll just take a walk. I got out of bed and put my shoes back on.

I trotted over to the door, pulling it with all my might to get it to open. I got out of the room and walked in one direction. Note to self, walk in a straight line then come back with the same line.

I looked at the walls as I walked down the hallway. Pictures of people with the title chosen one but was cancelled over and over. What happened to them, were they not the chosen one and died? The pictures started to vary from humans to demons. Still cancelled over and over. Vines falling down the walls and molds started forming on the walls probably a while back. They make the place seem so old and would break anytime soon but I'm sure it won't.

Then, the pictures gradually became nothing but empty frames down the hallway. An only half-formed picture sat between the pictures and empty frames. They were empty frames after that half-formed picture but they were cancelled still even though there aren't any photos in them. The hallway opens to a huge window area. The curve was a window with a red circle carpet covering that part of the floor. The hallway continues but the frames stops in the middle of the window area.

I trailed my fingers on the empty frame, it wasn't cancelled and there isn't a title of "chosen one". My finger trails all the way down the nameplate, "Arran Frye," I read slowly. That's my name. I'm sure it's someone else, right? Shock fills my face as I fall back slightly. Am I the last fated 'chosen one' of whatever it is for?

"I have been expecting you, Frye," the voice of the old guardian called out behind me. I turned around and saw him by the window, slowly turning towards me. "I knew you were Arran Frye the moment you stepped into the forest. That nameplate changed from 'chosen one' to Arran Frye when you entered," he explained.

"What is this 'chosen one' thing?" I asked. "Before I answer, you should know some things," he said, sighing at the end. "The pictures fill up the moment the so-called chosen one comes into the forest. However, twenty-two years ago, the empty frames were all cancelled out of a sudden and there was no one coming here but people who got lost trying to get to the Lost Path," he narrated. Twenty-two years? I was born twenty-two years ago.

"All the empty frames were cancelled except this one in the middle of the room. There were no pictures, nothing, it was just 'The Chosen One'. I waited for years to see who is the chosen one that I would need to assist. I have been alive for thousands of years but never have I seen such a thing," he was now beside me, grazing his fingers across my name on the nameplate.

"It's not possible, it must be a coincidence though, Rhea was the one who blessed me," I said defending myself against the title of the chosen one. He shook his head. "Rhea might think she did it for the sake of herself, but she must've gotten a sign to bless you. Before she blessed you, no human was blessed for centuries because the Lord of Spirits forbade the spirits to do so. Now that you're here, it wouldn't take long for the news of you to reach the Lord of Spirits as his people were the ones who build the protection layer of this forest," he said worriedly. He shook his head. and turn away.

"I've said too much, you should take some rest, enjoy the peace for a couple of days," he stated and left. I watch him as he walks away with his hands on the back. I stumbled back and looked out the window. What will happen to Rhea? I went over the window. The amazing view of trees that are lit with fireflies flying around. Flowers fill the place up as if it's a garden. A bench sat on the site in front of the little garden. It seems so magical.

Towards the left, a small pond with white lilies surrounding it. The water seems so blue and clear under the night sky. I shook the worry out of my head and walk back to my room.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

Loud knocks were heard at the door of my room. I lazily push myself up and dragged my feet to the door. I pulled it open to see Rhea with her hands on her hips, "let's go for a run," she said, more like ordered. I see the old Rhea is back. I nodded and closed the door. I looked around to see if I could find the bathroom. My eyes scanned the entire room to find a normal-sized door. Finally something normal.

I walked towards the door and kicked it open to find myself standing in front of a huge old-fashioned bathroom. Nevermind that thought earlier. I pulled myself to the sink and freshened myself up. Ahh... I don't have anything to change into. I went out to the closet of the room. Maybe there's something in here I can wear. They were all, very.... medieval style. I blinked a few times and decided to just go on with what I'm wearing and asked the guardian if he could instruct someone or allow us to get our things.

I went out to the hallway and pulled my door shut. I turned to walk to the front door of the mansion to see Rhea leaning against the wall. I jumped back, "Rhea! Did you wait for me the whole time? You scared me!" I half-shouted. She rolled her eyes and grabbed me by my arm, pulling me towards the opening. We met Rio on the way there, "Good morning to the two of you, what are you doing up so early?" he asked.

"Going got a jog," Rhea chirped and continued pulling me. I turned to Rio with a sorry look and waved at him which he gladly returned. I watched him as he walked into the dining room. I turned my attention back to Rhea as she let go of my arm and passed me a bottle, "let's go."
