Chapter 1 - Death

In a hospital ward of a private hospital

A small crowd was gathered in the VIP ward of an old, frail man. Coughs occasionally sounded amidst childish laughter and indignant banter within the room. Children surrounded his bed, laughing at whatever funny anecdotes he came up with. The teens and adults lined the walls, or simply squatted, all the seats having being given up for the kids to perch in. Despite the fragility of the dying man, there was still a bright gleam in those wrinkled blue eyes when talking almost animatedly.

That old man was Genesis Evarius. Gen, as most of his closer colleagues and friends called him. But to the crowd of people in the ward, he was simply 'Papa'. As a father of 3 sons and later, grandfather of 13 children, he really did have quite the send off party.

Gen knew it was about time he died anyways. He was 90 for God's sake. Even though he was still senile and could still move around somewhat, he really didn't want to stay any longer. He had no regrets. He'd raised his children personally after his then wife left. All his children were filial and he had such lovely grandchildren. He'd been able to set up his own company and amass enough wealth so he knew his children wouldn't suffer.

Unless they managed to fuck up the company dealings, but that was none of his business anymore anyways.

The dry coughs got more and more frequent as time passed till they sounded almost painful. One of the older men stepped forward to hand Gen a glass of water with a straw, which he accepted gratefully. As he sipped, a somewhat sad expression flitted over his face as his eyes moved over the people who were there for him.

He admits, in a deep part of him, he didnt quite want to die yet. But it was time. He could feel his limbs becoming more sluggish by the second. He didn't need to say a word, just one quick tilt of his head in the direction of the door was enough. Years of non-verbal communication with his sons enabled them to understand my meaning.

Their wives herded out the children leaving just the three men and their father.

"... now, now Percy, no need to cry. As the oldest, how are you crying when even crybaby Lucian is keeping his shit together?"

The men laugh shakily, trying not to cry. The bearded one, Percival speaks while sniffling, "... I'm not crying, dad. I've just- I've just got dust in my eye"

The most composed one, Cedric, the middle child nudges Percy in his side with an elbow. "You've always been a shitty lier, Percy. Dust in a sterile VIP ward? No wonder your wife easily found out you used her vacation money to buy new fishing gear"

"Hey!!"

Easy banter flows between the first and middle borns, Gen's idle amusement. The last born, a rather muscular man was hunched over the bed, eyes suspiciously red but still smiling faintly at his older siblings banter.

The three of them, though being identical triplets couldn't be anymore different in personality and lifestyle but they complimented each other well. Gen cleared his throat, drawing the attention of all three.

"As much as I'd love to hear more about the different ways you managed to scam your wives, I'm afraid it's almost time. Feel my heart, I can actually feel it slowing down". Gen chuckled but then raised his hand in submission when the boys didn't find the joke funny.

"Don't be sad. Be glad. I'm 90 and I've lived a pretty fulfilling life. You three are my greatest achievement. Besides my company and estates of course... but that's beside the point. I want you to remember me with happy memories and not sad ones. Think you boys can promise me that?"

Three wobbly yesses sounded amidst sniffles. Gen smiled and shook his head fondly. Mustering all the remaining strength in his arm, he patted each of them on their heads before letting his arm drop beside him. He managed a final slow smile, eyes sliding shut.

"Player Genesis Evarius... logging out..."
