Ning noticed the surprise on Tritus's face. He hadn't expected Ning to know of the agreement at all.
"Since you are doing this, it either means that this world has no other Constellation ruling it, or you found some loophole because technically it's this kid that is the one providing the energy that opens the portal, which lets you pretend you aren't interfering with another world directly."
Tritus stared at him.
The earthquakes continued beneath their feet.
Ning turned. "If I had to assume, I would say it's both, right?"
For the first time since Ning arrived, Tritus seemed far less interested in the portal than in the man standing before him.
"Who are you? How do you know about the agreement?"
Ning smiled, remaining silent.
Tritus's eyes narrowed as he fully turned toward Ning for the first time, no longer looking at him as just an ant.
"That information is not known to humans."
"Of course," Ning said. "I'm not exactly a human either."
