Jun Xie was a bit puzzled.
'Do I really look that scary?' He wondered, eyes narrowing slightly. 'Just look at this girl... her face is pale and her lips are trembling... she looks as if she's about to burst into tears at any moment!'
The gap between the two parties wasn't large to begin with, and his casual, almost lazy steps forward were naturally closing it even further.
"Yan Meng, don't panic! I will behead this shameless bastard with my sword!"
The young man beside her smiled with an air of misplaced confidence, his tone light yet dripping with arrogance.
With deliberate grace, he stepped forward, his hand drawing a slender blade from its sheath. The polished steel caught the light, a cold gleam flashing along its edge as he leveled it at Jun Xie.
"You shameless bastard, step any further and you court your death!"
The sight of that shiny sword made Jun Xie's expression grow gloomier by the second, and the words themselves stirred a simmering heat of irritation in his chest.
'How am I being shameless here? Isn't this guy just clearly looking for trouble? Bullying me in broad daylight? You've chosen the wrong person to provoke today.'
His gaze swept briefly over the young man before landing on the maiden again. 'You can't even protect yourself, ah! And you're spouting nonsense about killing a masked stranger for her? Your mother really gave birth to a bastard! Damn it, I'll show you... you're going to regret this for the rest of your life!'
Whatever excitement Jun Xie had felt earlier had long since evaporated, replaced now by a steady, rising anger. His lips pressed into a thin line as he took two large strides forward, intent on teaching this arrogant youth a lesson he wouldn't forget.
But before his foot could fall for the third time, a strange sensation brushed over his skin.
A sudden chill, like the kiss of a winter wind, slid across his bare flesh, crawling up his spine. His brows knit together. Instinctively, he glanced down and froze.
"You're the real scoundrel!" Jun Xie snapped, one hand flying down to cover his little brother.
Only now did he finally realize the full extent of his situation, that his entire body was stark naked.
A faint twitch pulled at the corner of his mouth. If nothing else, it was still less shameful than sprinting home naked without even knowing it.
The memory came back in flashes... the moment his body had been engulfed by the searing Flame of Primal Chaos during his training. His flesh had endured without so much as a blister, even gaining immense benefits from the trial, but his garments, had been reduced to ash in a heartbeat.
At the time, his body had been buried underground while his consciousness resided inside the Hongjun Pagoda. He had not been aware of his exposed state when he awoke, too intoxicated by the exhilarating surge of newfound strength to notice anything else.
It wasn't until he had stepped into the open, and found himself cursed at by complete strangers, that the truth now struck him.
"You, you, you are such a shameless character that you've even turned into a thief who shouts the same at others!"
The young maiden's voice trembled with outrage, her dainty frame quivering as she stomped her foot and squeezed her eyes shut, one delicate hand clutching her face as if the sight of him might burn her retinas.
"You're a scoundrel! And you have the audacity to call others a rogue⦠you⦠you're utterly shameless!"
Though Jun Xie's hand firmly shielded his lower half, not a single trace of embarrassment touched his expression. Instead, his lips curved into a crooked, mocking smile as he fired back, voice dripping with sarcasm.
"There is nothing rogue about a man running naked in the streets," He said. "We were born naked, and we will die naked. Our parents were naked when they conceived us... why doesn't anyone call that rogue? But the eyes that peek from behind fingers and then shriek 'rogue!'β¦ now those are the true scoundrels in this world!"
His tone grew sharper, his words twisting and turning with the flexibility of a snake.
"I did not ask you to look at me, so why were you staring? You profane my innocence! You're the thief shouting thief here, then you have the gall to call me a scoundrel? You're truly unreasonable! No⦠you, young woman, are the real scoundrel here!"
Jun Xie's reasoning was as shameless as it was absurd, yet he delivered it with complete confidence, mimicking the girl's tone so precisely that it was almost theatrical.
The level of shamelessness he displayed was enough to leave onlookers dumbfounded.
"You, you, you⦠Xiao Feng Wu, hurry and kill this lecherous man... he insults me!"
The girl stamped her foot again in a fit of indignation. "He actually dares to lecture meβ¦ to call me a scoundrel afterβ"
"Your family name is Xiao?" Jun Mo Xie's eyes rolled with exaggerated disdain. "Tch. I hate the family name Xiao. In my experience, nothing good has ever come from it. No wonder an arrogant youngster from such a hateful family name acts like such a rogue!"
The young man, Xiao Feng Wu, visibly stiffened, his expression darkening like a storm cloud.
"Shameless bastard! You dare speak ill of my family? I'll take your life!"
A golden light burst from Xiao Feng Wu's body as his sword lifted high, the aura of a Gold Xuan expert radiating outward in an oppressive wave. The gathered energy made the air hum with tension.
But before the strike could fall, the naked figure before him vanished.
A sudden gust of cold wind swept past, carrying with it a blur of movement too fast for the eye to follow.
Xiao Feng Wu felt a sharp smack across his cheek, followed by a crushing pain exploding in his crotch.
His body folded in on itself like a boiled shrimp, breath catching in his throat as his sword clattered uselessly to the ground.
Chi! Chi!'
The faint sound of tearing fabric reached his ears.
Gasping, he looked up through watery eyes just in time to see the shameless naked man holding a strip of cloth, freshly torn from his own robe, and wrapping it loosely around his waist.
Though Xiao Feng Wu was not weak, his lack of real combat experience had cost him dearly.
Jun Xie's kick had sent his liver and gallbladder into a chorus of mourning, leaving him doubled over in agony.
The arrogant youth rolled back three feet before collapsing onto the dirt, face twisted in pain, yet still staring at the maddeningly calm, newly half-clothed figure before him.
