The queen's name is invoked, and a lowly merchant's authority has been questioned.
Everyone present could feel the suffocating pressure in the air, but the only one immune to this pressure is Amon.
The big grin on his face says it all.
"Commander Nakhtamun, once again, I ask you, since when did the royal guards start taking orders from a lowly merchant who has no authority over the Queen's men?" Amon asks again.
His question hits the commander harder, as he has no answer. Everyone in the crowd saw him take orders for Wadjit, and now that Amon has called him out on it in front of everyone, the Queen is bound to hear of this.
"Why are you silent? Go on, tell me, why is a commanding guard taking orders from a lowly merchant?" Amon asks again, probing the commander for an answer while also continuing to insult Wadjit along with it.
Wadjit also can't speak because if he makes a scene, he will be digging the grave he has already dug himself even deeper.
