The commander was clearly not going to miss this chance. The moment he saw the hesitation in Amon's face and his unwillingness to cut up Hakor, the commander truly believed that Harin might be right.
Little does he know, he is just a drowning victim trying to keep himself afloat by grabbing only sticks, thinking they are logs.
The commander was not alone in this thought process. Wadjit, too, believed they might have cornered Amon, which is why he is being defensive right now.
After all this time, Amon has only now tried to be defensive.
As soon as he declared that he would have Hakor cut open, the whispers got louder again. After all, this is a funeral, and to have a man's corpse desecrated on his own funeral, there is no bigger humiliation than this.
