Chapter 232 - Chapter 198: The Threshold

**Lord Elandor's Log, Supplemental**

**Shire Valley Entry Complex**

**May 20th, 2126**

**The old world ends at a red carpet.**

**The new one begins with a card and a question.**

**Some doors, once opened, cannot be closed again.**

Late afternoon light stretched across the leveled ground as the Four Kingdoms' carriages approached the Entry Complex. The wide clearing had been carved from the mountainside with precise engineering — a broad expanse of dark polymer and compacted stone bordered by low retaining walls. To the left stood a large, well-built stable and carriage house. To the right, a disciplined line of vehicles waited in perfect formation.

A dozen sleek black VIP SUVs stood in a neat row, their surfaces absorbing light rather than reflecting it. Behind them rested three heavy cargo 10x10s and five HAS-V-A1s, low-slung and angular. Even at rest, the military vehicles carried a quiet, contained presence — a dense, focused point of mana that several of the more sensitive delegates could feel pressing against their awareness.

A group of officers and officials stood waiting on the red carpet. Most were human, but several Beastkin and two elves moved among them with the same calm efficiency. They wore dark uniforms with silver accents and carried tablets and card readers. There was no idle conversation. They simply waited.

King Aldric's carriage halted first. When the door opened, he stepped down with measured dignity. Kitsune Vulpine emerged immediately after him, moving with fluid grace. She wore a dark traveling coat, her nine tails held still and elegant. The moment her feet touched the carpet, her golden eyes swept across the organized scene with quiet familiarity.

King Brokk of Helmsland descended from his carriage next, broad shoulders squared, one hand resting on his axe head. Princess Elowen of the Gnome Kingdom in Exile followed, small and straight-backed, her eyes bright with sharp curiosity. Lord Elandor emerged last, his rangers forming a protective cordon that the officials politely but firmly redirected. For several seconds, none of the monarchs spoke. They simply took in the sight before them — the precise line of vehicles, the disciplined staff, the red carpet stretching toward the distant gates. It was impressive in its quiet competence. It was also deeply concerning in what it implied about the scale of American organization.

Kitsune stepped forward before any official could approach King Aldric. She moved to stand at his side. "Your Majesty," she said softly. "Allow me. I know how this works." King Aldric glanced at her. "You seem well acquainted with their procedures, Grand Mage."

"I am," Kitsune replied, a small, knowing smile touching her lips. "It is straightforward, but precise." A tall human woman with short dark hair stepped forward and inclined her head respectfully. "Your Majesty. Grand Mage Vulpine. Welcome. I am Lieutenant Hale. If you and your party would step forward, we can begin processing." The procedure moved with quiet efficiency. They recorded names, titles, and party sizes. Personal effects and cargo were cataloged. After the last diplomatic identification card was issued, Lieutenant Hale stepped back and addressed the gathered delegations.

"Before you board your vehicles," she said clearly, "each delegation has been assigned a diplomatic liaison from the Republic's Diplomatic Service. They will travel with you, answer any questions you may have during the journey, and serve as your primary point of contact while you are in Shire Valley." She gestured to four individuals who stepped forward from the line of officials.

For King Aldric, a composed human woman in her mid-thirties with auburn hair tied back in a practical knot stepped forward. She carried herself with quiet confidence and wore the dark diplomatic uniform with silver accents. "Captain Elena Korrin," she said with a respectful nod. "I have been assigned to the Albion delegation. It is an honor, Your Majesty."

For King Brokk, a broad-shouldered dwarven man with a neatly trimmed beard and calm eyes moved forward. "Master Harlan Stonevein," he said in a deep, steady voice. "Assigned to Helmsland. If there is anything you require during the drive, Your Majesty, you have only to ask." For Princess Elowen, a slender elven woman with silver-threaded hair, stepped forward and offered a graceful bow.

"Ambassador Saelira Moonwhisper," she said softly. "I have been assigned to the Gnome Kingdom in Exile. Welcome, Your Highness." Finally, a tall Beastkin woman with silver-grey fur and calm, intelligent eyes approached Lord Elandor. "Commander Veyra Stoneclaw," she said, inclining her head respectfully. "Assigned to the Hylār delegation. I will be traveling with you, my lord." Lord Elandor studied her for a moment, then gave a short nod in return.

The delegations were then guided toward their assigned vehicles. King Aldric's group was directed to three of the black SUVs, with Captain Korrin taking the front passenger seat of the lead vehicle. King Brokk and his party were shown to two more, with Master Stonevein already waiting beside one of the open doors. Princess Elowen and her small staff were directed to a single vehicle bearing the Gnome Kingdom's colors, Ambassador Moonwhisper already seated inside. Lord Elandor and his party were allocated the final pair of SUVs, with Commander Stoneclaw taking the front seat of the lead vehicle. One of the HAS-V-A1s fell in behind them as escort. As the last door closed, the convoy moved forward. The Entry Complex's wide gates swung open without ceremony.

Lord Elandor sat in the back of the SUV, one hand resting on the diplomatic ID card in his pocket. Through the tinted window, he watched the gates pass overhead. Commander Stoneclaw sat quietly in the front, her posture relaxed but alert. She did not speak immediately, allowing him the silence if he wished it. Behind them, the cleared ground and waiting vehicles grew smaller. Ahead, the road curved into the valley.

King Aldric sat in silence in his own vehicle, Captain Korrin already speaking to him in a calm, professional tone as they began the drive. King Brokk studied the SUV's interior with open curiosity while Master Stonevein answered his questions in a low, steady voice. Princess Elowen sat very still, eyes bright, as Ambassador Moonwhisper spoke softly beside her. Kitsune leaned back in her seat beside King Aldric, tails curling gracefully, the faintest trace of anticipation in her golden eyes.

The gates closed behind them.
