"Jessica…" Jayla didn't move, looking between us. "I don't think-"
"It's fine," I was the one who spoke up. "We're good."
That's a lie. None of this was close to good.
Jessica was breaking the rules, and Jayla knew something about her that kept her from calling someone to intervene. I could have said something, but I didn't want to.
As insane as it was, I needed to be alone with Ivan's ex.
"Okay," Jayla silently argued with herself as she moved toward the door. How conflicted was she? "I'll get that protein shake and get your lunch. Any flavor you prefer? We can mix it with anything."
"I like caramel… or mocha." It was true, but not the only reason I offered that option. It was unlikely they had those flavors on hand, meaning it bought us some more time.
Jessica noticed what I'd done, nodding in approval.
"I'll get that… Franny's at the desk if you need anything."
