Alex woke up to a sharp pinch in his arm and a steady rhythmic beep.
His head felt heavy, his thoughts moving slowly through a thick fog, trying to pull his arm away from the pinch, but his muscles refused to respond, trying to speak, but his throat was completely dry.
He had no idea where he was and what happened.
'I thought you wouldn't wake up...Welcome back.' Liza's voice echoed in his mind, sounding relieved, though faint.
Her voice helped ground him, he wasn't dead at least.
Alex forced his eyes open. The bright lights blinded him, and he quickly squeezed them shut.
He blinked a few times until his vision adjusted, then saw a blank white ceiling above him. He looked down and noticed a thin IV tube taped to the back of his hand.
Finally, he had realized he was in a hospital.
'Take it slow!' Liza added gently. 'You have been in a coma for a week.'
A week? His head throbbed with a dull ache.
