The kiss softened slowly, Janeth pulled back just enough to rest her forehead against his. Her hands stayed wrapped around his neck, his arms locked around her waist.
Neither of them moved to let go.
Alex looked at her. Her eyes were teary, her cheeks flushed, but she was smiling. A real soft smile.
She wasn't hiding her feelings anymore.
A nurse's cart rattled past the open doorway, the wheels squeaking against the floor.
"Ahh... sorry I lost myself." Janeth let out a soft, embarrassed laugh and pulled her hands back.
Alex finally let her go, though his fingers lingered on her waist for a second longer.
Before either of them could say anything else, the hospital room door swung open.
Anna and Ash stood in the doorway, their faces were grim, pale, and braced for no health improvement. Anna's eyes were red-rimmed, swollen from a week of worry.
Ash stood quietly beside her, her hand gripping Anna's arm tightly.
They froze when they saw him sitting up in bed.
