Third Person POV
Konoha, 43.
...
...
Kakashi was returning from his training in the late afternoon, as he had been doing every day, while jumping across the rooftops of the village.
Kakashi was without a team once again, since the last one did not want him because they were not used to his more direct personality, or also out of jealousy when he was much younger than the others and yet had the same level of skill.
Kakashi did not stop observing the village as he leaped through the air, as well as the changes that were happening in it, especially the fact that an entire country, the Land of Whirlpools, had been positioned close to the village, with the Uzumaki clan now being part of Konoha.
He had his own thoughts, lost over the past few days, ever since he learned of Minato's return, of his wives, and of the addition of the Uzumaki clan. All of this seemed strange to Kakashi as he returned to the clan. After all, Minato had done something far more serious than speaking out on a mission; he had become a missing-nin due to the village's decision, yet even so, everyone welcomed him with open arms.
And speaking of the devil, it was at that moment that something appeared right in front of him.
Jumping to the next rooftop, Kakashi saw a band of light coming from some direction, at high speed, and stopping exactly on the building where he was about to land. The light manifested itself in the form of a man, and he soon appeared, revealing none other than one of the people Kakashi had been thinking about lately.
His eyes widened, and he immediately stopped at a certain distance from Minato, while the blond did not fail to form a smile and greeted him, raising his hand.
"Hello, Kakashi."
"Minato Namikaze...", Kakashi murmured.
"It's good to find you. I was heading to the Ninja Academy for a walk and saw you jumping over the buildings," Minato said.
'I can't believe this...', Kakashi thought, this kind of guy doesn't do things by coincidence, they say he has a sensory ability that would leave even the Hyuugas sucking their thumbs.... Minato didn't even try to hide that there was more behind that encounter.
Kakashi analyzed the blond in front of him. He had certainly already seen him when Minato entered the village together with the Uzumaki and the clan leaders. Everyone expected them to pass through the traditional main avenue, but that was not what happened. While the group had left Sakumo and the Uzumaki behind, and many people were disappointed for not seeing Minato walking through Konoha's main avenue, Kakashi quickly went to where Minato was, curious.
When he found him, Minato had noticed his presence, but only formed a smile and continued walking with his wives toward their home.
Back on the rooftop, Minato decided to break the silence.
"Hello, Kakashi. Have you been training a lot?" Minato began, even with the idea of appearing like that, Minato had no shame at all.
"Yes," Kakashi was a little awkward about it.
"Well, I just wanted to see you. After all, we'll be seeing each other quite often, since we'll be forming a team soon. With me as the leader, I'll choose two more genin newly graduated from the academy," Minato revealed, while Kakashi could not help but widen his eyes, stunned.
Minato was the most powerful ninja in Konoha, there was no doubt about that. But he was also the same man who had punched Kakashi once, when he refused to accept the situation his father had gotten himself into.
At that time, Minato gave him a harsh moral lesson. That made Kakashi open his eyes to many things and begin to see everything from a different perspective, especially after discovering everything Danzō had done wrong in the village, with Hiruzen and the other elders accepting it all.
Those crimes were far worse than his father's failed mission.
While those old men were treated as heroes by everyone, Kakashi's father was condemned by the village not only for having failed after saving his comrades. It was discovered that all of this was a direct, coordinated attack by the elders, who feared the power and influence that Sakumo Hatake would have over Konoha, stripping them of their respective political positions.
After the civil war, Kakashi classified them as greedy old men, and Minato would have agreed with him if he had heard his thoughts.
And, returning to reality, Kakashi observed Minato. His last words were that they would form a team. How could he not be surprised?
"Don't be so stunned. Your father had already asked this of me long before, even before this whole mess began," Minato said.
When Kakashi wanted to know more, he certainly thought that having a sensei like him was far too valuable, but he still didn't understand why Minato would take on a field team when he...
Minato did not let Kakashi think too much and spoke again. "This will be done in a few weeks, Kakashi. Until then, I want you to push yourself in training. After all, I intend to put you and the others through a test," Minato said.
Then he disappeared, leaving Kakashi alone on that rooftop, now with new thoughts after Minato did not even let him speak with his declarations.
Minato went straight to the Ninja Academy. He stopped on top of one of the buildings and watched the children leaving, since that was a full day, in which they stayed the entire day training.
Like his time at the academy, since there had been many days during the period when he attended the academy full-time, Minato had attended it from the age of six to ten, and it had been almost nine years since he had last set foot there.
A lot had happened since then, and he could not help but sigh with nostalgic thoughts, when there had been no wars, political schemes, traps, or deaths.
He used to be a child who only wanted to train, surrounded by girls who had a good head on their shoulders to keep up with him and not be fangirls. It was a fun time, but it was already over.
His eyes turned to the children: some acting playfully, others grumbling, but most showed joy at meeting their parents and relatives outside. Others headed home alone, chatting with their friends.
Minato then focused his gaze on one particular pair talking as they left: Obito and Rin, walking home together.
Obito spoke animatedly about how incredible he would be in the future, while Rin listened, encouraging him attentively.
"Strange...", Minato thought. Their relationship was curious. In a way, Rin listened to Obito and rooted for him, but she only saw him as a friend, almost like a brother she had never had. Obito, on the other hand, was clearly in love with her, but she had never reciprocated.
Maybe it was the fact that Obito talked too much and was a bit foolish. He had never awakened in Rin an admiration strong enough to create romantic feelings.
'Women don't see foolish guys as potential partners. Generally, they prefer bad boys, silent men who are direct when they speak, some may even have unpleasant personalities, but they still have an excess of strength or some skill to admire.', Minato thought, remembering that there were many examples. Kakashi, Sasuke, even himself.
After all, he had won the hearts of the most beautiful and powerful women of his generation, and they had all agreed to share him, something Minato had never seen another achieve among the shinobi. Minato had never been foolish. He was friendly, yes, but never a fool. He always guided and helped his female friends, while at the same time they admired him for his strength and the prominence he had, never stopping evolving since he was six years old.
Minato still held the record for the highest grades at the academy. Kakashi might have graduated first, but he still maintained the number one position. He had even surpassed the original Minato, who already held the highest score in the academy's history, something not even Itachi and Kakashi had managed to achieve.
In any case, Minato was observing the two children when someone stopped beside him. He could already feel that person's presence approaching from a distance.
"Miss the academy?" That person asked, while Minato finished observing. A small, closed smile appeared on his face.
"You could say I'm keeping an eye on the next generation, but it really reminds me of the academy days," Minato said in a melancholic tone.
His sensei Aburame was by his side, also stopping to watch the children leaving.
Minato seemed to lose himself in thought and then turned to the man who had been his teacher at the academy, as well as his teammate and also his companion in the special squad during the Second Ninja War, carrying out missions together.
"Tell me something, teacher. Is it good to teach?" Minato asked, curious, as the sensei slightly raised an eyebrow.
"You ask that as if you were going to become the next academy instructor...", he murmured, but decided to answer. "But yes, it is good to teach. You're there to guide the children toward the future, wanting to protect them so they don't die on the battlefield... In a way, you also want to preserve their innocence. I couldn't be more proud, since I was among the best class of the generation. I can't complain about having taught all of you, not even for a single day."
He was referring to everyone, not just Minato and his wives. After all, no matter how powerful they had become, known worldwide, the class they graduated with was not limited to just the five of them. The Ino-Shika-Chō formation was also created at that time, among other groups. Teams like the one formed by the two Hyuuga brothers also emerged, as well as the team formed with the woman from the Aburame clan.
It was a class with many talents, including those who even managed to draw the attention of Madara Uchiha, who went so far as to absolve the other two Uchihas in the class.
Both fell silent for a while. Minato watched Rin and Obito disappear from view, passing between buildings and houses as they headed home.
"Hey, you should go meet the others," the sensei broke the silence, and Minato could not help but sigh as he remembered his old team.
"Is she upset?" he asked carefully, after all Minato still remembered the conversation he had with his former teammate, Kai Kurama.
"She complains all the time during these past year and a half, saying that you said you didn't need us, always grumbling whenever we meet unofficially on missions. But she also talks a lot about your performance. She said you were incredible on the battlefield. She got married, you know?"
"I bet it was with Furi Akimichi, they were like fire and water, but always together," Minato said simply with a smile.
"Yes, the two of them are married," he confirmed.
Minato nodded before sighing and returning to the matter at hand. "I couldn't simply let her enter a battlefield when I would be involved. It would already be bad enough to deal with accusations saying that the village itself was after us, considering we were already missing-nin," Minato said.
"I know, but even so she and the others hope to see you. They want to congratulate you. After all, you got married too, and I heard you have two children," he said with a smile.
Minato returned the smile while looking toward the Hokage's building. "We'll do that, yes..." he said, pausing, now taking his leave.
"I'll go then. It's good to see you. Let's do something later, just coordinate with the others," Minato asked.
Aburame nodded.
"Good luck, whatever it is you're planning, Minato," he said with a friendly smile.
Minato nodded before disappearing.
He would speak with his ANBU team and also with the Phantom Squad at some point over the next few days. They would have a talk, and Minato would still have to address the last discussion they had, which had been far from friendly, with him refusing his comrades' intention to desert Konoha to stay by his side and take part in the battle of Uzushiogakure.
Minato refused because it would not make much difference. They would only risk their lives and could lose them in that battle, in addition to tarnishing their names against the village.
Minato went straight to the Hokage's building, and when he presented himself to the ANBU, they said he could see the Hokage immediately.
Minato entered the room without caring about the hidden presences. All ANBU ninjas were always curious when he appeared there.
At the desk, Sakumo set the paper aside and looked at Minato.
"Hello, Sakumo. How are you?" Minato asked.
"Well... with the usual problems," he replied, while Minato nodded, understanding why. "And you? Are you adapting to the village again?" he asked curiously.
"I'm just visiting old acquaintances, trying to make sure they still remember my face," Minato said in a joking tone.
"I'm sure none of them forgot you. It's hard to forget you," Sakumo replied with an ironic smile. "In any case, I wanted to talk to you... we'll have a meeting with the Uzumaki tomorrow, and they want your presence. I'd also like you to be there."
"Of course," Minato replied promptly. He was the main factor in the bond between the Uzumaki clan and the village, even though some still held resentment on the Uzumaki side over Konoha's decisions.
"In any case, I'd like to ask a favor," Minato said, revealing the real reason he was there. Sakumo simply nodded, waiting.
"I want the files on Obito and Rin, and I also wish to have them on my team. As soon as they graduate, I'll form a team with those two and your son," Minato said.
Sakumo nodded his head. They had already talked about this previously.
"I also wanted to ask for one more possibility. I heard that some children are having classes with substitute teachers, since the teacher of Class A is indisposed."
"Yes, he's been bedridden because of an illness, so we're rotating the other teachers."
"I thought about the possibility of teaching myself. Would that be any problem, considering we have a few weeks before the team formations?" Minato asked, as Sakumo slightly raised an eyebrow.
"You want to teach at the Ninja Academy?" he repeated, not as a question, but clearly surprised.
"Yes. Since these children are about to become ninjas, I'd like to pass on some of my knowledge. I believe I can help them," Minato said.
Sakumo smiled. "Well, certainly the most powerful shinobi in the world would have a lot to teach the next generation," he said, and Minato nodded without feeling embarrassed by the title.
After that, Minato returned home, finding Tsunade holding the two children tightly, one in each arm, while his wives prepared dinner as night approached.
He certainly still had many things to do in the village, but he was happy to be back. And even happier to have a place to return to every day and find his family.
Thus, Minato entered the kitchen announcing his arrival, even though they had all already felt his presence.
