Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Want Her

"Ms. Sutton is already here. She's with Mr. Fawcett."

Hearing this, Charles Prescott said, "I'll go take a look."

The family wanted to find a woman for Nathan Fawcett, and he was the one in charge of it.

He had originally just wanted to use this to pressure Anne Sutton, but he hadn't expected the Sutton Family to actually send Sharon Sutton over.

But after thinking it over, he ultimately decided that Anne Sutton's sister was a good choice.

The Sutton Family had no real power and was easy to control.

Otherwise, if it were someone else who actually bore Nathan Fawcett an heir, what would be left for him, Charles Prescott?

He went to Nathan Fawcett's courtyard. As he walked through the door, the butler saw him and said politely, "Mr. Prescott."

"I came to have a look." Charles Prescott entered, and the butler followed behind him, saying, "Ms. Sutton is upstairs with Mr. Fawcett."

"Is Uncle Prescott satisfied with the person I found for him?"

He was supposed to personally pick up Sharon Sutton today, but he had rushed to the hospital because of Vera.

Charles Prescott was just about to go upstairs when he saw Anne Sutton coming down.

Seeing her, he froze for a moment. "What are you doing here?"

Anne Sutton rested one hand on the railing, her gaze cool as she looked at Charles Prescott. "Didn't you tell Sharon to come serve your uncle? Sharon had something to take care of, so I came to look after your uncle in her place."

Anger instantly flared on Charles Prescott's face. "What are you doing here? I told Sharon to come look after Uncle Prescott because…"

Charles Prescott didn't finish his sentence.

'Sharon Sutton could come, but for Anne Sutton to actually…'

'Is she courting death?'

As a man, this woman was his property. He would never tolerate her belonging to someone else, let alone letting her come here to take care of his uncle.

Anne Sutton finished his unspoken sentence: "It's to have a baby for your uncle, right?"

Charles Prescott had mentioned this to her before; she remembered.

So, of course, she knew exactly why he had told Sharon to come.

Charles Prescott said, "You knew, and you still came? Anne Sutton, are you crazy?"

Anne Sutton looked at the man coldly, realizing he truly had no regard for her.

If he had even a shred of respect for her, he would never have plotted to use her sister like this.

"Why can't I be the one to come? Things like having a baby—I can do that too. I can have your uncle's baby!"

Hearing such shameless words from Anne Sutton, Charles Prescott was furious. "Are you sure you're sober? Is there something wrong with your head?"

'Her, having Nathan Fawcett's baby?'

'Where would that leave his, Charles Prescott's, pride?'

Charles Prescott said, "You're coming back with me. Now. Immediately!"

After speaking, he walked over and went to grab her hand, intending to drag her away.

Anne Sutton dodged lightly, not letting Charles Prescott touch her.

Charles Prescott looked up at her. "Don't provoke me! You know I have a bad temper."

"Of course I know. However, my business is no concern of Mr. Prescott's." Anne Sutton said, "We're over now. You gave me a choice, and I made it, didn't I? Mr. Prescott can go keep his girlfriends company now! I'm sure every single one of them is more obedient and adorable than I am, and they won't make you angry either."

Listening to her sarcastic words, the expression on Charles Prescott's face softened slightly. "Are you doing all this on purpose because of what happened earlier today?"

In his eyes, it seemed like the most trivial of matters.

Anne Sutton looked at the man, only now realizing that he had never truly cared for her. "Thank you, Mr. Prescott, for making me understand just how fragile my position in your heart is. I was too full of myself, thinking that becoming your fiancée made me different from the others. This afternoon, I've reflected on it deeply."

Charles Prescott had been quite angry, but now, hearing her words, he felt it was just one of her little tricks.

"If you think acting like this will make me give you a second glance, Anne Sutton, I advise you to stop dreaming. Given the Sutton Family's current situation, it's already an honor for you that I'm willing to marry you! Making too much of a scene will only be repulsive. Understand?"

"If that's the case, what is Mr. Prescott wasting his breath here for?" Anne Sutton shot him a glare.

Charles Prescott said, "I told Uncle Prescott that Sharon would be the one coming. If you show up here, Uncle will get angry. Don't you dare mess things up for me! When the time comes, your Sutton Family won't be able to handle the consequences."

"Then you can rest assured." Anne Sutton lowered her eyes, her expression earnest. "I've already spoken with Mr. Fawcett, and he has agreed. I will take Sharon's place. I'll get pregnant with your uncle's child as soon as possible. I won't delay your business, so please, Mr. Prescott, don't you worry."

"You're saying Uncle Prescott agreed? He'd be interested in you?" Charles Prescott found that hard to believe. "Uncle has very high standards. There's no way he would want you!"

Nathan Fawcett never had women around him. Charles Prescott had introduced some to him, but he hadn't taken a liking to any of them. His standards were impossibly high.

The moment Charles Prescott's voice fell, a cough echoed from upstairs.

Charles Prescott looked up and saw Nathan Fawcett, dressed in loose-fitting clothes, standing at the top of the stairs, leaning on the railing.

He had appeared so suddenly. Anne Sutton had no idea what he was thinking.

'He's not going to see Charles Prescott and go back on his word, is he?'

When Charles Prescott saw Nathan Fawcett, his attitude instantly became much more proper. The usually arrogant Mr. Prescott was surprisingly humble in front of Nathan Fawcett. "Uncle, there's been a mistake. I'll take her away right now and bring Sharon over later."

After he spoke, without waiting for Anne Sutton to react, he grabbed her wrist and started to pull her away.

He was terrified that Anne Sutton's presence would provoke Nathan Fawcett's displeasure.

Anne Sutton struggled. "Charles Prescott, let me go!"

Charles Prescott paid her no mind. She was just a woman; how strong could she possibly be?

Soon, he had dragged her straight to the doorway.

Nathan Fawcett, still standing upstairs, spoke. "Wait."

Charles Prescott stopped in his tracks.

Nathan Fawcett said, "Where do you think you're taking my person?"

That single phrase, "my person," had already made his attitude toward Anne Sutton clear.

Hearing this, Anne Sutton felt a sense of relief.

Seeing this, the butler hurried up to support Nathan Fawcett. Nathan Fawcett walked down the stairs and glanced at Charles Prescott.

Charles Prescott said, "Uncle, she's not the one I was sending over. Anne is my fiancée. I was looking for her sister. I'll send her sister over in a moment."

With the butler's support, Nathan Fawcett had already walked over. He glanced at Anne Sutton and said to Charles Prescott, "I've taken a liking to her. She'll do. From now on, don't call her by her name. Call her 'Auntie'."

Hearing Nathan Fawcett's words, Charles Prescott asked in disbelief, "Uncle, but she…"

"What?" Nathan Fawcett said. "You and your father have lived and eaten in our home for so many years, and you won't even give me one woman?"

Although he looked sickly, his words were filled with intimidating power.

Charles Prescott said, "Of course not. I just feel that Anne isn't worthy of you. Her personality is awful…"

"I happen to like awful personalities." Nathan Fawcett glanced at her and extended his hand. "Come here."

Seeing this, Anne Sutton quickly struggled out of Charles Prescott's grasp, walked over, and supported Nathan Fawcett.

The butler also tactfully stepped aside.

Charles Prescott stared at the scene, asking in disbelief, "Uncle, you really want Anne Sutton?"

Nathan Fawcett said, "I know you have plenty of women; you're not short this one. In that case, give her to me."
