A few days passed…
After their last encounter, Mami actually became good friends with Madoka and Sayaka.
At school, they naturally met up and often conversed. With the act of 'Magical Girl saving the beauties', their relationship naturally progressed to the stage of good friends.
Though, since they weren't in the same class, they could only meet up at lunch time.
From now on, Mami is no longer alone at school. She now has two very good friends!
…
..
.
"Huh? Mami-senpai lives with Adam? That's so bold!"
During lunch that day, the group's conversation revolved around Adam.
When Mami freely revealed that she is currently living with the silver-haired boy, Sayaka gasped in surprise.
"It's nothing, it's just a temporary stay."
The golden-haired girl shook her head. After saying it out loud and having these two girls stare at her, she has become a bit bashful.
"Huh? Really?" The blue-haired girl narrowed her eyes at her with a disbelieving look. "So, you two, a man and a woman, are alone together…. And nothing has happened?"
A mischievous smile arose on the girl's face.
"Ugh~" Mami put her hands on her flushed cheeks, shaking her head. "Adam and I aren't in that kind of relationship yet."
The blonde retorted. However, her cheeks reddened even more after what she said.
"Oh? 'Yet', huh?"
"A-ah, it's not what you think!"
She elegantly waved her arms in denial.
Although she had just inadvertently revealed her true intentions, Mami still refuses to admit it!
"Madoka, what's wrong?"
The green-haired gir -Hitomi Shizuki- didn't know Adam, so she didn't join their conversation.
However, because of that, she noticed that the pinkette of the group started acting a bit strangely.
"I…"
Madoka had lowered her head at some point, gripping the bento box tightly.
Her face was obscured by the shadow cast by her pink bangs.
"-I'm f-fine."
Upon hearing Hitomi's concerned inquiry, Madoka raised her head, revealing her usual, bright smile- which was very slightly strained if looked at closely.
"Everyone, I forgot something in the classroom." She stiffly stood up. "I'll be leaving now."
After saying so, she didn't wait for anyone else's reply. She simply ran away with her lunchbox in tow.
"Forgot something? Isn't it lunch break now?" Sayaka frowned. "What would she need to get at this time?"
She is a little confused. Madoka is acting weird.
"Leave her be."
Hitomi shook her head.
She seemed to have noticed something, and she opened her mouth to continue:
"...."
But the green-haired girl glanced at Mami and sighed, losing all desire to say more.
…
..
.
Madoka walked all the way to the bathroom with stiff steps, and her head lowered.
She turned on the tap and splashed cold water on her face with the faintest hope of clearing her mind.
"Was I…"
The pinkette looked at herself in the mirror. Against the white background of the WC, her childish face appeared somewhat pale.
"-Jealous of Mami-senpai?"
She suddenly feels a little regretful.
"What am I doing…"
Madoka put her hands on her cheeks, rubbing her eyes.
"I ran away and just left my friends there."
This is so childish. In fact, she isn't even sure of the reason why she ran away just now. Her current feelings are too complicated.
"Haah~"
After thinking for a long time, Madoka sighed with mixed feelings.
Her mind is confused and full of thoughts. She feels overwhelmed.
But then she thought of Adam, who had saved her like a hero.
And then of his embrace and gentle smile- which she still longs for.
Even now, recalling that moment, Madoka feels a jolt in her heart. Since that day, most of her thoughts revolved around him.
"I'm just an ordinary person. Am I asking too much?" Her face fell. "Mami-senpai is so elegant and beautiful. And she's a magical girl too. They're such a perfect match, but I'm just..."
The pink-haired middle schooler suddenly couldn't continue speaking.
Biting her lip, she looked down at the sink, her eyes misty with tears.
She never imagined that her first crush would end like this…
Tears dripped down uncontrollably, bringing about a suffocating sensation.
"Why don't you try becoming a magical girl?"
Suddenly, in this space where the only sound was of her light tears falling in the sink, a lovely and cutesy voice sounded from behind her.
"Eh?"
Madoka abruptly turned her head towards the right, only now noticing that a strange white creature- somewhat resembling a combination of a rabbit and a cat- had appeared on the sink and was staring straight at her with its red eyes.
"You…D-did you just speak?"
The pink-haired girl stuttered out, somewhat unsure.
This creature is very strange. Is she having hallucinations?
"Yes."
The white creature nodded its little head strangely in affirmation.
"Hello." Then it tilted its head, greeting her quite casually. "My name is Kyubey."
"Hello...?"
Madoka's mind blanked out as she dazedly greeted the creature calling itself Kyubey back.
"So," Kyubey asked again, continuing without paying any attention to her bewilderment. "Would you like to sign a contract with me and become a magical girl?"
As if a keyword triggered, the pink-haired girl abruptly raised her head, her unfocused pink pupils snapping back to attention.
"You can make me a magical girl?" Madoka's eyes lit up. Excitement, expectation, and a hint of trepidation appeared all at once on her face. "Like senpai Mami Tomoe?"
"Yes, Mami Tomoe has also signed a contract with me to become a magical girl."
"What do you mean by 'contract'?"
"I can grant you a wish. In return, you will need to bear the mission of fighting the witches."
"A wish? I can wish for anything?"
"You can wish for anything. I can grant all miracles."
Any wish? Without limits?
'If that's the case, then can't I make Adam…''
Her face flushed at the possibility-
'-No, that's not right!'
Madoka quickly shook her head rapidly, trying to banish this thought from her mind.
'How could I think that! That's wrong!'
This was such an evil and dark thought. The pink-haired girl never wants this to cross her mind ever again!
"I'm sorry…" Madoka reluctantly shook her head, "I don't have any wishes."
Except for that, she really couldn't think of anything else. Her current life is happy. She has her friends, and she doesn't lack anything.
"It's okay. If you cha-"
Before Kyubey could finish speaking, his entire head vanished instantly, leaving only a headless corpse that collapsed to the ground like a puppet without its strings.
"Huh?!"
Madoka flinched, completely caught off guard at this scene.
"Madoka Kaname, don't be fooled by this thing. It's just lying to you."
A calm and cool female voice echoed throughout the bathroom
The pinkette looked at the source of the voice- Homura Akemi. Unbeknownst to her, this girl had quietly appeared beside her at some point.
"This...you did this?" The normal middle school girl bit her lip, her body trembling, "Why were you so cruel?!"
She knew this girl. She's in the same class as her. When Homura first transferred over to her class, she said some incomprehensible and weird stuff to her.
However, Madoka didn't expect this pretty and seemingly aloof girl to actually kill such a cute creature!
"...."
Homura Akemi said nothing more. She explained nothing. She merely glanced at her deeply and then disappeared from view.
Along with the cruel aloof girl, Kyubey's headless corpse also disappeared.
"What's going on...?"
Madoka murmured, frozen in place and not moving an inch.
She stared blankly ahead, confusion coloring her face. She even wondered if what had just happened was a hallucination?
After racking her brains for a long time, she had no choice but to run back to the classroom.
DING
The pinkette would have preferred staying in the WC for a bit longer to sort out her thoughts, but the school bell rang.
…
..
.
After school, Madoka and Sayaka said goodbye to Hitomi, who was going for special tutoring.
As usual, they started walking home together- but this time, Mami wasn't with them.
After becoming friends, Mami also joins in their walks. However, strangely, this time, she is absent.
"Madoka-chan, you missed something when you left during lunch!" The blue-haired girl smiled with anticipation, "Mami invited us to her house to visit. Do you want to come too?"
Then she looked at the pinkette with expectation.
"Senpai's house? Hmm…" Madoka barely needed one second to think before she nodded. "I want to go!"
'According to what senpai said today, Adam must be there too, right?'
Madoka, also filled with anticipation, easily agreed to this invitation.
Just seeing Adam and talking to him shouldn't be a problem, right? Mami won't scold her, right?
…
..
.
Soon, they arrived at Mami Tomoe's house.
As soon as they stepped into the living room, the three of them saw an interesting sight-
It was of Adam lying on the sofa extremely casually, eating snacks and watching TV with great interest.
He seems to be truly enjoying the life of a Salted Fish. (Not)
"Yo Mami! You're back." The silver-haired lazy boy waved in their direction, seemingly feeling no embarrassment at his current state being seen by three girls. "Madoka and Sayaka, too. How are you two?"
He flashed a laidback style, giving a completely opposite vibe to the hero Adam, who had saved Madoka back then.
"Honestly, you've been eating so many snacks lately." The sighing voice of the owner of this house echoed throughout the house. "I'm not sure how you're going to eat dinner tonight.."
Mami stood with her hands on her hips, looking exasperated at his over-exaggerated gluttony.
"Don't worry, Mami." Adam grinned, taking another bite of the sticky toffee pudding from his plate. "I'll eat every food you make."
"That would be best!"
The blond-haired girl nodded, a stern light appearing in her eyes.
It's as though, if he lies and doesn't eat his dinner, Mami will spank his little bottom to teach him a lesson he won't forget!
"Hey Madoka~."
Spectating their conversation, Sayaka Miki nudged Madoka Kaname with her elbow and whispered:
"Don't you think that Adam and Mami-senpai look like a married couple?"
Her blue eyes sparkled, the instinct of every woman arising within her- the desire for gossip!
"Ah, this... y-yes."
Madoka gave a forced smile and mirrored her words.
-However, Sayaka Miki did not notice her friend's unusual behavior. Instead, she continued to excitedly recount her discovery and gossip about all the possibilities.
The blue-haired girl only stopped gushing when Mami called out to the two of them.
"Come and try the cake and my brewed black tea."
At those words, Madoka breathed a sigh of relief as though she had been granted a pardon.
Then the blond magical girl placed several small cakes and cups of black tea on the table.
"Itadakimasu~"
The two girls didn't delay, they immediately dived in.
"Wow! It's sooooo delicious!"
After just one bite, Sayaka immediately exclaimed in delight. Her eyes lit up
"Yes, this black tea is also very delicious."
The pinkette also nodded in agreement as she drank the black tea.
The taste of this tea is even better than the tea her father brews!
"I'm glad you like it."
As she watched the two enjoying her craftsmanship, Mami smiled broadly.
She is very happy. She brought friends over, and she also has a (lazy) male friend living in her house and keeping her company.
What could possibly go wrong?
