Chapter 217
For the first time in weeks, I slept soundly, without nightmares, without the constant fear that something terrible was about to happen. I simply rested, letting my body and mind recover from the ordeal.
When I woke up, an hour later, the sun was shining brightly through the window. I felt refreshed, rejuvenated, like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders.
I got out of bed and walked into the kitchen, where my parents were sitting at the table, talking quietly. They looked up when I entered, their faces lighting up with smiles.
"Good morning," my father said. "How do you feel?"
"Much better," I said, smiling back. "Thank you."
"Are you still going to the hospital?" my mother asked.
