Chapter 219
Dr. Ramirez hesitated for a moment, his eyes darting nervously around the room. "I... I can't say," he said. "But trust me, Alayna. This is the key to saving those children."
"I'm sorry, Dr. Ramirez," I said, my voice hardening. "But I can't just trust you. Not anymore. Not after everything that's happened."
"What do you mean?" he asked, his face paling.
"I mean that I think someone is trying to sabotage our investigation," I said. "And I don't know who I can trust."
Dr. Ramirez looked at me, his eyes filled with hurt and confusion. "Alayna, I would never do anything to harm those children," he said. "I'm a doctor, just like you. I want to help."
"I want to believe you, Dr. Ramirez," I said. "But I can't take any chances. I need to know where you found that vial."
He hesitated for a moment, then sighed. "Alright," he said. "I found it in the room of one of the children who hasn't been affected. The one in isolation."
