Chapter 230
Grandmother Halton smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "You're a good woman, Alayna. You deserve all the happiness in the world. Don't let Lev steal any of it."
"I won't," I said, my voice firm.
She patted my cheek gently, a gesture so tender it made my heart ache. "Good."
My mother step up and said, "Alright, Grandmother Halton, thank you so much for all of your time today. I guess we won't bother you any longer. We'd like to head home and let you rest."
Grandmother Halton waved a dismissive hand. "Nonsense. You're never a bother. In fact, I hope you'll come again soon. Perhaps for dinner this weekend? Just family."
My mother blinked, surprised by the invitation. "That would be lovely."
"Wonderful." Grandmother Halton turned to me, her eyes warm. "And Alayna, bring Dafa. He works too hard. He needs to learn that family time is important."
I smiled. "I'll make sure he comes."
She nodded approvingly. "Good. Now go. It's late and you both need your rest."
