Chapter 231
I closed my door and leaned against it, letting out a long breath. My mind was spinning.
Lilith's words echoed in my head. He's mine. He's mine. He's mine.
What was she so afraid of? Lev had used her, discarded her, made her feel worthless. And yet she clung to him like a lifeline.
I thought about the look in her eyes when she made me promise. The desperation. The fear. It wasn't about love. It was about something else. Something I couldn't quite name.
I changed into my pajamas and climbed into bed, but sleep wouldn't come. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Lilith's face. Pale. Frightened. Desperate.
A soft knock on my door made me sit up.
"Come in."
My mother slipped inside, her face drawn with worry. "I heard shouting. Is everything okay?"
I hesitated. Part of me wanted to tell her everything. But another part knew that Lilith's pride couldn't take another person knowing her secrets.
