Eleanora tried running. Three steps. That was all she managed before one of the masked men blocked her path completely.
The moment he reached toward her, instinct took over. Eleanora pulled the knife from beneath her dress and stabbed forward without hesitation. The blade sank into his arm harshly enough to make him grunt in pain before stumbling backward.
Chaos erupted instantly.
The men around them moved at once, weapons shifting, footsteps echoing sharply across the abandoned property. But before Eleanora could sprint again, an arm wrapped tightly around her waist from behind and dragged her back violently against a hard chest.

"Enough." For the first time that night, irritation entered his voice properly. Not softness. Not patience. Not obsession disguised as tenderness. Actual irritation.
