The blade disappeared from Ethan's neck so suddenly that even he failed to react in time.
Before he could even react properly, Eleanora turned the knife toward herself instead, the sharp edge trembling dangerously close against her own throat.
For the first time tonight actual panic crossed Ethan's face.
"That's dangerous, my love." His voice lost all calmness as his eyes remained fixed on the blade pressed against her skin. Even while driving at terrifying speed, his attention shifted completely toward Eleanora.
"Stop the car." Her voice came out cold. Hollow. Like something inside her had finally broken permanently tonight.
"Ellie, don't do this." Ethan's grip around the steering wheel tightened. "You're hurting yourself."
"STOP. THE. CAR." She warned, her fingers trembling.
Ethan tried slowing slightly instead. "You can't possibly think this ends well if you threaten yourself-"
