"Fine then," Percy growled, his patience wearing thin. "If I cannot harm you, then I will just trap you." He turned around and ran away as fast as he could, the damn thing following closely behind him, crashing through the hedges.
Percy leveled his wand before him as he ran and casted a powerful transfiguration spell on the ground ahead, forming a giant, deep ditch, one that was twice as deep as the monster was tall, and three times as wide.
The demigod then partially transfigured his back, sprouting his black pegasus wings in a flash. He leaped high over the newly created pit, flapping his wings just enough to glide safely over to the other side.
The Skrewt, being mostly blind and focused only on charging forward, just kept running straight ahead, falling headfirst into the deep ditch with a loud, crashing thud, like an anchor being dropped.
Percy landed gracefully on the other side and looked down into the pit, seeing the monster thrashing around, trying to escape, but finding the pit's walls too steep and smooth to climb.
Percy smiled, satisfied, and quickly flew back over the pit, turning his shoulders back to normal before once again running as fast as he could towards the heart of the maze.
It was another five minutes of hard running that followed. Percy found himself getting mentally exhausted from all the endless, identical greenery.
The maze might be dark and spooky, but he was used to that kind of shit. Right now, more than anything, he was just bored out of his mind.
And then, he heard it. A sharp scream. "Ah!" Percy's eyes went wide. 'Fleur!' He immediately turned and ran towards the sound, his heart pounding in his chest. He took three sharp turns, and then came upon a sight that turned his blood cold.
Fleur and Harry were fighting a giant, hairy spider an Acromantula and right behind them, standing in a straight line with the monstrous spider, was the Triwizard Cup, glowing with a faint, supernatural blue light.
Percy did not even think about going for the cup, not for a single moment. He looked at the giant spider instead and saw that it had just lunged at Harry and Fleur, who were being pushed back into a corner of the maze, its huge, hairy pincers snapping hungrily at them.
Percy moved without thinking, his mind racing, creating a new spell on the spot. He needed something elastic, strong, with a whip-like motion.
Three turns of the wand for added strength, and a sticky element to grab onto something and hold it tight. He calculated the movement and the power needed and... done. "Lenta Verbera!" he yelled.
A thick, yellow line of pure magic, like a magical whip, came flying out of his wand. It wrapped tightly around one of the Acromantula's massive, hairy legs, grabbing onto it with a firm, sticky grip.
Percy then pulled back with all his might, using his demigod strength, causing the giant spider to be yanked off its feet. It flew right over Percy's head, landing heavily on its back with a loud thud a good twenty feet away, its many legs waving helplessly in the air.
"Percy?!" Fleur cried out in surprise and relief.
Percy turned to them both, his expression grim and determined. "Go! Get to the cup! I have got this!" He sent a powerful stunning spell at the struggling spider, which it easily dodged as it scrambled back to its feet.
Percy turned back to his friends. They both were just looking at him, hesitating. "Go now! I will be fine!" he yelled again.
They finally nodded and started running towards the cup.
Percy turned back around and quickly sent a massive fireball at the spider, causing it to leap away just in time.
He fired off more stunners, cutting spells, and even a tripping jinx, but nothing seemed to stick to the fast-moving creature. It just leaped away from every spell at the very nick of time.
Percy grumbled, his patience finally running out completely. He whipped his wand forward with a fierce snarl and sent out a wide-range transfiguration spell, aiming it at the lush green ferns that covered the ground all around them. He instantly turned them into thick, strong vines, and then animated them to follow his will.
The spider tried to leap forward again, hoping to attack while Percy's attention was divided. But before it could close its massive pincers around Percy's neck, the newly animated vines exploded outwards from the ground, wrapping themselves around the spider's entire body, capturing it completely in mid-air, suspending it helplessly between the hedges.
Percy smirked, breathing heavily. "Take that, you stupid, eight-legged freak!"
"Way to go, Percy!" Harry called out from near the cup.
Percy turned and smiled, seeing that both Harry and Fleur were safe, waiting for him near the glowing trophy. Just then, the maze began to shift again, the walls moving and groaning. The direct pathway before him, leading straight to the cup and his friends, started to close up rapidly.
"Percy! Come on! Hurry!" Harry called out, his voice filled with urgency.
The demigod ran towards them, his mind screaming, 'He cannot let Fleur win! She cannot touch that cup!' He ran as fast as his legs could carry him, pushing himself to his absolute limit.
He was just moments away, so close he could almost reach out and touch them, as the magical hedges started to close in, shutting the path.
"Incendo!" he roared, blasting a new hole right through the middle of the thorny ferns.
He was just about to leap forward through the fiery gap, when suddenly, a voice hissed from the side, "Avada Kedavra!"
