"Damn I thought my first day on the job would go smoothly. Looks like I was wrong."
Increasing his speed Gavin reached the alley finding two boys kicking and beating another.
"HEY, WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOURE DOING, GET OFF HIM. YOU HEAR THAT ALARM, THAT MEANS GET YOUR ASSES TO SHELTER." Gavin shouted in anger.
Startled by Gavin, Taylen and flea bolted passed him after seeing his guard uniform. Taylen eyes met with Gavin for a second, giving him a smug look.
"Damn teenagers." He thought looking back at Taylen.
He immediately began helping Bailey up carefully as he could see burns and small blisters all over him.
"Those little bastards did this to you. This is terrible, don't worry, I got you. You can stand right ? "
Grunting in discomfort and pain, Bailey stood up with heavy breaths.
"Yes, but Wait. We must help Damon." He said pointing towards the figure stuck on the wall.
Looking a few meters down the alley, Gavin saw a red cocoon mounted against the wall.
" I thought one of the kids running away was Damon. I should have gotten a description of the boy before I left my post."
"Yes, that's him. I was being bullied and he tried to help me. "
Gavin walked over to the stringy cacoon and with a single motion, a vibrant green sword appeared in his hand as he swung. The threads were split in half perfectly cutting through it like butter while also putting out the small flames below.
Falling out was Damon with a readied fist, seeing a young man in a guard uniform standing in front of him and clearly hearing the alarm. He put two and two together as he looked at Bailey blistered body.
"Are you hurt ?" Gavin asked.
"No, I'm fine."
"Good, I need to get you two out of here. The closest shelter on this side of town is a few minutes away on foot. Let's go."
Damon looked at him oddly for a moment, it wasn't like a guard to lend him a hand, besides issac who he didn't care for, but Damon listened because the situation was different now. Rain clouds above moved as Damon moved.
The streets were completely empty within minutes as if everyone had teleported or vanished. Everyone that couldn't help with the beast wave were inside their homes or shelter.
After cutting around a few corners and bolting down a few alleys Gavin came to a complete stop stretching his arms out behind him, stopping Damon and Bailey in their tracks as well.
" Wait." He whispered.
"Damn. One, no two, three or maybe more beasts are near. We can't go this way. I can sense their strength isn't troublesome so they must be low to mid level."
Ring !
Looking at his coms device a message was sent out regarding two high matured beast in the area as well.
Looking up at the beast gate, it now had a mix of blue and orange meaning high, mid and low matured beasts were descending. It swirled like a vortex, and every few minutes a beast would be teleported out.
"Ahh, Damn it." Gavin cursed.
"We're going to die aren't we?." Bailey asked in a shakey voice. Bailey was beat up and burned pretty bad, but he could still move very fairly.
It wasn't hard to tell they were in a bit of trouble as Gavin's anxiety latched on to them with his body language.
"No. You two will be fine. Just listen to me and we will get out of this."
Damon looked up closing his eyes as his clouds began to spread further out reaching a wopping 600 meters in a circular radius covering the area. It looked as if a storm was brewing the way the clouds rolled in covering a small portion of the city. Damon's max so far after spending three more years focusing on the radius of his clouds was 990 meters.
"We won't be if we don't move fast. North is the only opening we have. It's three figures closing in on our position." Damon said.
Gavin turned to him with curious eyes.
" How does he know that, is it his rain. " Gavin questioned himself.
"Are you sure North is clear."
"Yes, I can tell its multiple beasts by the way their moving and the pattern of my rain as it hits their bodies, either way north is clear for now."
With his skill, eye cloud....the sensitivity of his rain had increased so he could determine inanimate objects and animated objects. While using it, he could get a rough feel as to what his rain was currently touching.
Gavin gritted his teeth while looking ahead trying to make a decision.
"Should I put our lives in the hands of a boy no older than 15 or 16, If he's wrong things could turn out worse. Maybe I should leave them here, locate the threats and eliminate them. I can come back for them after."
"No, that won't work. I'll be leaving them stranded, and who knows how many more beasts will appear."
"I can call for help, but it'll take them some time to get to us unless other guards are already in the area."
As Gavin was trying to think, Damon had begun walking.
"Hey, wait. Where are you going ?"
"I told you, North." Damon said walking away.
"Tsk! ahhh, you better be right about this." Gavin shouted running behind Damon while Bailey followed.
Minutes later three figures appeared in the same place they once was. They walked on all fours and had thick white fur with two heads, pointy ears and sharp black jagged teeth. They growled and snapped at eachother before sniffing the ground trying to dicern which way to go.
Up ahead Damon was guiding Gavin and Bailey using his rain.
"Anything within the radius of my rain I can feel. It's a bit difficult to do because it takes some focus, but as long as I'm not thinking too much I can do it." Damon explained to them as they carefully manevoured through alleys and streets.
"Is that how you've been able to survive during beast waves this long, I mean you've been on the streets for years now right ?" Asked Bailey.
Damon eyes cut towards him for a moment and his lips twisted a bit out of habit.
"Yes, but only the last couple years. Anytime a beast wave occurs, I usually run and evade beasts using my rain until I can get to a shelter. I've had many close calls, but I survived."
Gavin looked at them for a moment with raised brows. " Why not ask for temporary shelter in one of the many homes here ?"
"No one will help someone like me. That's just how it is, I could care less anyway. I've made it all this time alone and I'll keep going." Damon spoke changing directions.
In the beginning, Damon had begged for help many times, for food, water and shelter, but no one would help him. Captain issac didn't start trying to help until six months later, by that time Damon didn't care.
Gavin called in back up and a team was headed on their side of the city, but like he thought. It would take a little time. The guards that were stationed on the same side they were currently at had trouble of their own and couldn't send help right away.
As they moved to other areas so did his rain, He could choose what was being affected by his rain. At the moment all of them were completely dry. But the area all around them was wet.
Gavin noticed it a while later, but understood it wasn't regular rain, it was Damon's ability. They ran through the streets and whenever Damon felt a presence he was sure was a beast that was too close, they would change trajectory to get around It.
"Hey guys, I don't know how much longer I can keep running. My body hurts like hell and I'm not in the best shape as you can tell." Baily said coming to a stop trying to catch his breath.
They all stopped for a moment catching their breath while looking around.
"Alright. You've done good so far, everytime I sensed a beast you steered us away from it. That's some great work, but we can't run around all day. We have to get to one of the shelters."
"More guards are on their way here, I am constantly giving them an update on our movement. I can't say for sure when they will...
Gavin's words were cut short as his eyes squented hard at something that moved like a shadow. Soon, a beast with two heads could be seen on top of a nearby building looking right at them.
"What. I didn't sense that thing. It must be a Mid mature level or higher. either that or it's smart enough to hide its presence." Gavin said with a frown.
"Damon, could your rain detect that thing."
"Yes, but barely. I couldn't detect it properly while it was moving. It must be pretty fast or blocking my rain somehow. Damon said with his mouth slightly open in confusion. From the moment Damon mastered eye cloud, nothing could escape his view. Right now he was questioning himself.
"Did i miss this one, or is it doing something to disrupt my rain?" He thought again.
It shook it's body releasing waves of red energy from its fur. The energy flowed out and disappeared. With a few jumps it was on the ground standing fifteen or so meters in front of them, it then began walking up slowly with a low growl. Activating his coms device, Gavin was able to confirm it's level.
"Damn. The report didn't mention a high grade 4 beast. It's also listed in the unknown section so I can't learn anything about it. This will be a little tough but I should be able to manage."
Signaling for them to back up. Gavin placed his arms at his sides in the form of an X.
"Alright. It looks like I'll have to deal with you first."
Yanking his arms forward, he pulled out two blades that glowed green releasing two curving lights in the shape of an X. Gavin blasted off trailing his attack preparing a strike as his attack hit its mark.
"I gotta keep these boys safe. So I'll come to you. I won't let you get close to them." Gavin thought as he pushed forward.
The beast mouth opened shooting out a ball of red energy. Their energy attacks clashed and disappeared. The next second Gavin's blades were locked against the beast claws.
He pushed against the beast for a few seconds before turning to the side allowing its claws to move forward. Jumping and twisting as it's body went forward.
Gavin's blade made a long cut from its shoulders to the middle of its back when out of nowhere he was hit on his side by something fast and sharp. It was the beast long hairless grey sharp tail. It was moving like a whip, but was the shape of a blade.
Gavin hit the ground rolling but using his momentum, he rolled to his feet dashing back in side stepping twice evading four claw strikes.
With multiple twists and backflips he created space and as the beast lunged forward. A green light enveloped Gavin as he took a fighting stance.
"Rapid slice."
His speed doubled and within a second he made over ten open wounds splitting the beast flesh open in multiple areas on its body. Once again, the beast shook its body like a dog shaking off water releasing multiple waves of energy, but this time it's figure vanished.
Damon looked around frantically not knowing it's location while Bailey slowly stepped back. Gavin held his twin emerald green color swords steady and moved slowly while looking around.
The beast emerged out of thin air from the side biting down at Gavin who immediately twisted his swords and shifted his feet spinning out of its path while slicing one of its ears off.
The beast didn't even flnch, but instead raised one of its hind legs kicking Gavin in the chest like a bucking horse sending him flying back crashing into a wall.
A red pulsating energy formed in its mouth shooting out, but with a swing of his swords, he knocked the ball of energy back making the beast jump over it with stretched out claws.
Gavin rolled to the side and swung his blade creating a large crescent moon of dazzling emerald light cutting into the beast chest and rolled once more repeating his attack until the beast hit the ground unmoving, painting the alley floor in orange blood.
"Woah. He's pretty strong isn't he." Baily asked Damon.
"I guess so, I'm just glad he was able to handle that thing. There's no way we could have beaten it."
"Alright, let's get out of here." Gavin said turning around. The second his back was turned, the beast vanished which informed Damon it wasn't dead just yet.
"Watch out."
With a powerful side swipe from the beast claws. Gavin was sent across the street crashing into a building. as their fight had gradually moved out of the alley. The beast stood back up strong with glowing red eyes. One of its heads had disappeared and it now only had one.
"What the hell just happened. I thought it was dead." Bailey shouted in fear.
Bailey didn't waste any time as he took off stumbling and running in the opposite direction.
"Bailey wait, we have a better shot sticking together." Damon shouted out, but Bailey didn't stop.
The beast growled while crouching and approaching Damon licking its sharp jagged teeth.
"Damn it, If I run now I'm done. There's no way I'm turning my back against this thing. The guard is not dead, I can feel his heart beat within my rain. He's just unconscious."
"What the hell do I do, I'm too weak damn it. I know my power isnt good by a long shot, but I thought I would at least live a bit longer. I guess that was wishful thinking." He said talking through his teeth tightening his fists.
"Whatever, I'm not dying without a fight That's for sure."
"Increase. "
Taking in a deep breath he prepared himself while getting in a fighting stance. His strength and speed grew as the rain came down fast and hard. The beast jumped at him stretching out its claws with a burning red glow like the embers of burning wood.
Damon ducked and rolled out the way as quickly as he could but something sliced part of his arm open. Making him scream in pain as he rolled to his feet.
"What was that, Im sure it missed me with its claws. Is it that fast?"
He dodged again and again, and each time he was left with cuts that were soon all over his body.
