Metamorphosis Magic

Metamorphosis is the magic of flesh, biology, organic structure, transformation and life-form design.

Beginner — Alter existing organic form.

Adept — Reconstruct and optimize living organisms.

Master — Manipulate organic matter and fundamentally redesign life.

I. Beginner-Level Spells & Techniques

At beginner level, the user learns to manipulate small amounts of organic matter and perform relatively simple transformations.

1. Organic Sense

The foundational technique.

Allows the caster to perceive the structure of organic matter.

It can identify:

muscles

bones

organs

blood vessels

plant structures

biological tissue

organic compounds

magical organs

abnormalities

It is the Metamorphosis equivalent of Material Sense and Spirit Sense.

2. Minor Transformation

Allows the caster to make small alterations to their own body.

Examples:

lengthening fingers

changing hair

altering skin texture

slightly changing facial features

growing claws

modifying teeth

The changes are temporary at first.

3. Shape Shift

Allows the user to alter their physical appearance.

At beginner level, transformations are limited to relatively simple changes.

For example:

Human face A → Human face B.

The caster cannot yet perfectly reproduce another species.

4. Limb Alteration

Temporarily changes the structure of a limb.

Examples:

longer arms

stronger hands

claws

thicker forearms

webbed fingers

reinforced joints

Very useful in combat.

5. Muscle Reinforcement

Reorganizes muscle tissue to temporarily increase:

strength

endurance

explosive power

Unlike Evolution Magic, the caster is physically restructuring the muscles rather than rewriting the information defining strength.

6. Bone Reinforcement

Changes the structure of bones to make them:

denser

stronger

more flexible

more resistant to fractures

7. Skin Alteration

Changes the properties of the skin.

Possible applications:

thicker skin

scales

tougher hide

improved elasticity

increased heat resistance

8. Minor Regeneration

Stimulates and restructures organic tissue to repair minor injuries.

Can restore:

shallow wounds

small amounts of damaged tissue

minor burns

Unlike Restoration Magic, it doesn't return the body to a previous temporal state.

It creates/restructures replacement tissue.

9. Plant Manipulation

Allows the caster to manipulate nearby plants.

They can:

bend stems

accelerate growth slightly

reshape branches

alter roots

strengthen plant fibres

This establishes that Metamorphosis isn't limited to animals.

10. Organic Shaping

Allows the caster to reshape non-living organic materials.

Examples:

paper

wood

leather

cloth made from organic fibres

food

bone

This is a very important spell because it demonstrates the true domain of Metamorphosis.

11. Wood Forming

Allows the caster to reshape wood without conventional tools.

Useful for:

furniture

structures

weapons

bridges

ships

12. Organic Separation

Separates different organic materials.

For example:

flesh → individual tissue components.

Or:

plant → fibres + sap + structural material.

Useful for crafting and biological research.

13. Temporary Gills

Creates temporary aquatic adaptations.

Allows the caster to breathe underwater.

A simple but iconic transformation technique.

14. Predator's Senses

Temporarily alters the sensory organs.

The caster can enhance:

smell

hearing

eyesight

night vision

balance

15. Claw Manifestation

Transforms the fingers into claws or talons.

A basic combat transformation.

II. Adept-Level Metamorphosis

At Adept level, Metamorphosis becomes genuine biological engineering.

The mage can reconstruct entire biological systems rather than merely changing isolated features.

16. Complete Transformation

Allows the caster to transform their entire body into another biological form.

For example:

Human → wolf-like creature.

Or:

Human → aquatic humanoid.

The transformation is temporary unless deliberately made permanent.

17. Beast Form

The caster transforms into a predetermined animal or magical beast.

The form retains the caster's consciousness.

The stronger the creature, the more difficult the transformation.

18. Hybrid Form

Combines traits from multiple organisms.

For example:

Human + eagle → wings + enhanced vision.

Or:

Human + feline → claws + enhanced reflexes.

At higher proficiency, multiple traits can be integrated without destabilizing the body.

19. Monster Form

The caster creates a specialized combat form by combining multiple biological adaptations.

Possible features:

enhanced musculature

claws

scales

additional limbs

wings

enhanced senses

reinforced skeleton

specialized organs

This is essentially controlled monsterization.

20. Organ Creation

Allows the caster to create biological organs.

Examples:

replacement heart

additional lung

artificial kidney

venom gland

mana organ

sensory organ

The organ must still be biologically compatible with the host.

21. Organ Replacement

Replaces a damaged or failing organ with a newly created biological equivalent.

This is one of the most valuable medical applications of Metamorphosis.

22. Regenerative Reconstruction

The caster can regenerate substantial quantities of missing tissue.

Possible regeneration:

limbs

organs

muscle groups

damaged nerves

portions of the spine

This is where Metamorphosis begins approaching Restoration's healing capabilities.

The difference remains:

Restoration returns the body to a previous state.

Metamorphosis builds a replacement.

23. Biological Adaptation

Allows the caster to deliberately modify their body for an environment.

Examples:

Deep Ocean

Gills, pressure-resistant tissue and improved vision.

High Altitude

Improved oxygen absorption.

Extreme Heat

Heat-resistant tissue.

Extreme Cold

Enhanced insulation and metabolic control.

24. Poison Gland

Creates a specialized biological organ capable of producing toxins.

The toxin can be designed within the limits of the caster's biological knowledge.

25. Venom Adaptation

Modifies the caster's physiology to produce or resist biological toxins.

26. Mana Organ Creation

A particularly important magical-biological technique.

The caster creates a biological organ capable of:

storing mana

circulating mana

filtering mana

converting magical energy

This is where Metamorphosis begins interacting heavily with magical creatures.

27. Magic Stone Formation

The caster deliberately stimulates the biological-magical processes that cause a magic stone to form.

However, the stone isn't actually the purpose of the spell.

It is a byproduct of magical-biological restructuring.

28. Magic Beast Reconstruction

The caster can modify an existing magical beast.

Possible modifications:

stronger muscles

new organs

additional limbs

enhanced magical organs

altered appearance

improved magical compatibility

29. Plant Reconstruction

Allows sophisticated manipulation of plants.

The caster can create:

giant vines

carnivorous plants

medicinal plants

rapidly growing trees

defensive vegetation

30. Living Material

The caster modifies organic material so that it retains a controlled degree of biological activity.

For example:

Living wood that continues growing.

Or:

Self-repairing leather.

Or:

Organic fibres capable of responding to magical commands.

31. Organic Regeneration Field

Creates an area where biological tissue rapidly repairs itself.

Extremely useful for treating groups of injured people.

32. Biological Assimilation

Temporarily incorporates a compatible biological trait into the caster.

For example:

Dragon scale → temporary scales.

Aquatic creature → gills.

Magical beast → enhanced sensory organs.

The caster must understand the biological structure being incorporated.

III. Master-Level Metamorphosis

At Master level, the mage stops thinking about transformation as:

"Turn into a creature."

They begin thinking:

"What can organic matter become?"

33. Complete Biological Reconstruction

The caster can completely redesign an organism's physical structure.

They can alter:

skeletal system

musculature

organs

nervous system

circulatory system

sensory organs

reproductive system

magical organs

The result can be an entirely new biological configuration.

34. Perfect Transformation

Allows the caster to transform into another organism with extremely high biological fidelity.

The transformation can reproduce:

physical appearance

organs

senses

movement

biological functions

The caster retains their own consciousness.

35. Permanent Transformation

Makes a metamorphic change permanent.

Unlike temporary transformation, the altered biological configuration becomes the caster's new physical state.

Reversing it requires another advanced metamorphosis.

36. Species Reconstruction

The caster can redesign an entire species.

They can modify:

physical characteristics

environmental adaptations

sensory systems

metabolism

biological resilience

This is essentially biological worldbuilding.

37. Artificial Lifeform

Creates an organism from organic material designed by the caster.

Unlike a simple summoned creature, it is a genuinely biological organism.

It possesses:

cells

organs

metabolism

biological growth

Whether it possesses consciousness depends on Spirit Magic.

This distinction is important.

Metamorphosis creates the body.

Spirit creates the person.

38. Homunculus Creation

Creates an artificial humanoid organism.

The body can be designed for:

combat

research

medicine

magical experimentation

adaptation

A true independent consciousness would require Spirit Magic.

39. Living Construct

Creates a biological equivalent of an artificial magical construct.

It can be designed to:

obey commands

regenerate

adapt

grow

develop new organs

40. Biological Synthesis

Combines biological characteristics from multiple species into a stable organism.

For example:

Human + Dragon + Phoenix + magical beast.

The challenge isn't acquiring the traits.

It's making them biologically compatible.

41. Monster Genesis

The legendary monster-creation technique.

The caster designs an entirely new magical organism.

They can determine:

anatomy

physiology

abilities

organs

magical pathways

appearance

environmental adaptations

The resulting creature develops a magic stone naturally as a consequence of its magical physiology.

42. Regeneration Beyond Death

A particularly advanced technique.

If enough biological material remains, the caster can reconstruct a destroyed body.

But there is a critical limitation:

It only recreates the body.

It does not restore the original consciousness.

The soul must be retrieved through Spirit Magic.

Thus:

Metamorphosis + Spirit = true biological resurrection.

43. Organic Replication

Allows the caster to reproduce an existing organism's physical structure.

For example:

Plant → identical plant.

Animal → biological duplicate.

However, the duplicate doesn't automatically possess the original's memories or consciousness.

Again:

Body ≠ Soul.

44. Biological Adaptation Engine

The caster creates a body capable of continuously altering itself according to environmental conditions.

For example:

underwater → gills

land → lungs

high gravity → reinforced skeleton

extreme cold → insulation

extreme heat → heat-resistant tissues

This is where Metamorphosis begins approaching Evolution Magic.

The distinction:

Metamorphosis actively performs the transformation.

Evolution changes the information that determines the body's potential for adaptation.

45. Organic Regeneration Domain

Creates a large area where organic matter continuously repairs itself.

It can potentially restore:

forests

crops

damaged ecosystems

wounded organisms

The more complex the organism, the more difficult the process.

46. Genesis Flesh

The caster creates living biological tissue from raw organic material.

This is essentially the highest form of organic matter creation.

It can be used to produce:

replacement organs

biological materials

artificial tissues

experimental organisms

It still requires a biological template or sufficient knowledge.

47. Lifeform Blueprint

The caster creates a complete biological blueprint describing an organism.

The blueprint can include:

anatomy

organs

physiology

metabolism

magical pathways

adaptations

The blueprint can then be used as the basis for creating the organism.

This is the Metamorphosis counterpart to Evolution Magic's Evolutionary Blueprint.

48. Organic Dominion

The Master establishes authority over organic matter within a defined area.

They can manipulate:

plants

animals

biological materials

food

wood

organic structures

The stronger the organism's magical and spiritual resistance, the more difficult direct manipulation becomes.

49. Primordial Metamorphosis

The theoretical pinnacle of the school.

The caster can completely redesign the biological form of an organism while maintaining its fundamental identity.

A creature can become:

aquatic → terrestrial → aerial → monstrous → humanoid

without losing its original consciousness.

This is absolute biological transformation.

50. Genesis of Life

The ultimate theoretical technique.

The caster creates a completely new biological species from raw organic matter.

Unlike Genesis Soul, which concerns consciousness, this technique creates the physical lifeform.

If combined with Spirit Magic:

Body + Soul = genuinely new living being.

And if Evolution Magic is added:

Body + Soul + Information = potentially self-evolving life.

That combination would be one of the most powerful applications of Ben's Grimoire.

---

The Four-Way Distinction

This is where the magic system becomes particularly elegant:

Restoration:

"Return the body to what it was."

Metamorphosis:

"Change the body into what I want it to be."

Evolution:

"Change the information defining what the body can become."

Spirit:

"Change the soul inhabiting the body."

So if Ben wanted to create a dragon-human hybrid, for example:

Metamorphosis creates the dragon physiology.

Evolution optimizes the hybrid's biological and magical information so the two systems function together.

Spirit ensures the person's consciousness and soul remain stable through the transformation.

Restoration could provide a temporal backup of the original body.

And Creation could create inorganic components—such as specialized armour, magical organs' external components, or a permanent artifact—to complement the new physiology.

That means the truly spectacular transformations in Ben's story don't need to be attributed to one magic alone. They can become multi-branch magical engineering, which fits the nine-section structure of the Grimoire extremely well.
