Beginner — Read information.
Adept — Modify information.
Master — Rewrite information and potential.
I. Beginner-Level Spells & Techniques
At beginner level, Evolution Magic is primarily analysis, optimization and temporary enhancement.
1. Information Sense
The foundational technique.
Allows the user to perceive the informational structure of a target.
It can reveal:
physical attributes
magical attributes
mana capacity
magical affinity
skills
talents
weaknesses
resistances
injuries
evolutionary potential
It doesn't automatically explain everything about the target. The mage needs greater proficiency to interpret complex information.
2. Analyze
A focused version of Information Sense.
The user selects a particular attribute to examine.
For example:
Analyze — Mana Capacity
or:
Analyze — Physical Strength
or:
Analyze — Magical Resistance
This prevents a beginner from being overwhelmed by the enormous amount of information contained within a complex organism.
3. Status Perception
Allows the caster to perceive the current "state" of a target.
It can identify:
active enchantments
magical buffs
curses
injuries
fatigue
abnormal conditions
temporary enhancements
Essentially, it provides a magical status display.
4. Potential Sight
Allows the user to perceive what a person or creature could potentially become.
For example:
Current magical ability → potential magical ability
Current physical capability → potential physical capability
It doesn't automatically grant that potential.
It merely reveals it.
5. Minor Enhancement
Temporarily improves one physical attribute.
Examples:
strength
speed
reflexes
endurance
flexibility
The enhancement is relatively modest.
6. Mental Enhancement
Temporarily enhances cognitive performance.
Can improve:
concentration
reaction time
memory recall
analytical ability
learning speed
It doesn't grant knowledge the user doesn't possess.
7. Magical Enhancement
Temporarily increases the efficiency of an existing magical ability.
For example:
Fire spell → stronger Fire spell.
Shield → more durable Shield.
Healing spell → more efficient Healing spell.
The caster is not changing the spell's fundamental nature yet.
8. Skill Optimization
The user analyzes how someone performs a skill and temporarily optimizes the information governing that skill.
Applications:
swordsmanship
archery
spellcasting
flying
athletic movement
The user isn't learning the skill instantly.
They are making their existing knowledge more efficiently expressed.
9. Mana Optimization
Reduces the amount of mana required to perform a known spell.
For example:
Spell normally costs 100 mana → 80 mana.
This is enormously useful despite being relatively low-level.
10. Mana Flow Adjustment
Optimizes the circulation of mana through the body.
Can:
reduce mana wastage
improve spellcasting speed
prevent magical overload
improve recovery
11. Minor Resistance
Temporarily increases resistance to a particular phenomenon.
Examples:
heat resistance
cold resistance
electricity resistance
magical resistance
physical impact resistance
12. Adaptive Response
Allows the body to temporarily optimize itself against a known environmental condition.
For example:
Entering extreme cold → increased cold resistance.
At beginner level, adaptation is limited and temporary.
II. Adept-Level Evolution Magic
The mage can now rewrite portions of the information defining a target.
Instead of:
"Make me stronger."
the mage begins thinking:
"Change the information that defines my strength."
13. Advanced Enhancement
Greatly increases a chosen attribute.
Possible targets:
strength
speed
durability
intelligence
magical power
perception
reflexes
Multiple attributes can eventually be enhanced simultaneously.
14. Multi-Attribute Enhancement
Enhances several statistics at once.
For example:
Strength + Speed + Reflexes + Durability.
The drawback is exponentially increasing mana consumption and informational complexity.
15. Skill Evolution
The caster upgrades an existing skill to a superior version.
For example:
Swordsmanship → Advanced Swordsmanship.
Or:
Basic Fire Manipulation → Advanced Fire Manipulation.
The important rule:
The mage must possess the underlying skill first.
Evolution doesn't normally create expertise from nothing.
16. Spell Evolution
The caster upgrades an existing spell.
For example:
Fireball → Greater Fireball → Inferno Sphere.
Or:
Shield → Reinforced Shield → Barrier.
The evolved spell retains its original conceptual identity but operates at a higher tier.
17. Ability Optimization
Rather than increasing raw power, the caster improves the efficiency of an ability.
For example:
Same spell power + 50% lower mana cost.
Or:
Same ability + twice the activation speed.
This can sometimes be more valuable than simply increasing strength.
18. Mana Capacity Expansion
Temporarily increases the informational limit defining the user's mana capacity.
The body and soul must still be capable of supporting the increase.
This is one of the most important limitations of Evolution Magic:
You cannot safely upgrade information beyond what the underlying system can sustain.
19. Mana Recovery Optimization
Improves the efficiency of the user's natural mana regeneration.
Rather than increasing the mana pool itself, it changes:
how efficiently mana is recovered.
20. Magical Affinity Enhancement
Strengthens compatibility with a particular type of magic.
For example:
Fire affinity → greater Fire Magic efficiency.
Or:
Spatial affinity → reduced mana cost for Spatial spells.
This can be extremely powerful when combined with Ben's other Ancient Magics.
21. Resistance Evolution
Permanently—or semi-permanently—improves resistance to a particular phenomenon.
Repeated exposure can allow the caster to evolve increasingly effective resistance.
For example:
Fire resistance → Advanced Fire Resistance → Fire Immunity.
However, each stage becomes increasingly expensive.
22. Adaptive Evolution
The caster's body actively responds to environmental conditions.
Examples:
Underwater
Gills and improved oxygen utilization.
Extreme cold
Improved thermal regulation.
High gravity
Enhanced skeletal and muscular structure.
Poisonous atmosphere
Improved filtration and resistance.
Unlike Metamorphosis, the transformation is driven by information-based adaptation rather than direct biological restructuring.
23. Evolutionary Acceleration
Accelerates the natural evolutionary process of a living organism.
It can produce rapid adaptation.
However, the caster must understand the target's biology and evolutionary pathway.
24. Trait Acquisition
Allows a target to acquire a trait that already exists within a compatible biological or magical framework.
For example:
Human + Dragon-derived heat resistance.
Or:
Wizard + enhanced magical sensory ability.
This works best when combined with Metamorphosis.
25. Magical Compatibility
Changes the informational parameters governing compatibility between two magical systems.
This is extremely useful for:
combining Ancient Magics
using foreign magical artifacts
operating alien technology
bonding with magical weapons
26. Ability Stabilization
Prevents an enhanced or evolved ability from destabilizing.
This becomes crucial when Ben begins pushing his powers beyond their natural limits.
27. Evolutionary Blueprint
The caster records an optimized informational template for a person, creature, object or magical ability.
The blueprint can later be used as a reference for evolution.
This is essentially:
a save file for a particular state of development.
28. Information Transfer
Allows certain informational characteristics to be transferred from one compatible target to another.
For example:
Skill pattern → another compatible individual.
It doesn't necessarily transfer memories or personality—that belongs primarily to Spirit Magic.
III. Master-Level Evolution Magic
At Master level, Evolution Magic becomes information manipulation in its purest form.
The caster can directly alter the data defining physical, magical and biological capabilities.
This is where Evolution starts approaching Conceptual Magic.
29. Information Manipulation
The fundamental Master technique.
The caster can directly modify the informational structure of a target.
They can alter:
attributes
abilities
resistances
magical compatibility
potential
mana capacity
evolutionary pathways
The caster isn't merely applying a buff.
They are rewriting the target's underlying information.
30. Absolute Enhancement
The caster pushes a chosen attribute toward the highest state the target's underlying system can safely sustain.
For example:
Strength → maximum sustainable strength.
This isn't infinite enhancement.
The body, soul and information must remain internally consistent.
31. Ability Overwrite
The caster replaces an existing ability's informational parameters with a superior version.
For example:
Basic Teleportation
↓
Advanced Teleportation
↓
Absolute Teleportation
The original ability isn't simply strengthened.
Its definition has been upgraded.
32. Skill Synthesis
Combines multiple related skills into a more advanced unified ability.
For example:
Swordsmanship + Physical Enhancement + Mana Reinforcement
could potentially become:
Magical Swordsmanship
This is one of the reasons Evolution Magic is so powerful for Ben.
33. Skill Creation
At extremely high mastery, the caster can construct a new ability from existing informational components.
For example:
Spatial Step + Gravity Manipulation + Swordsmanship
→
Gravitational Flash Step
The technique doesn't appear from nothing.
It is constructed from existing information.
34. Potential Unlock
The caster removes informational restrictions that were preventing a target from reaching its natural potential.
For example:
A wizard whose magical growth has plateaued → potential restored.
This is different from Enhancement.
Enhancement temporarily increases performance.
Potential Unlock changes the target's growth ceiling.
35. Evolutionary Rewrite
The caster directly changes the evolutionary pathway of a living organism.
A human could potentially evolve toward:
enhanced magical physiology
extreme physical resilience
supernatural senses
environmental adaptation
This overlaps with Metamorphosis, but the distinction is:
Metamorphosis changes the form.
Evolution changes the information defining what the organism can become.
36. Species Evolution
A Master can apply Evolution Magic to an entire population.
A group of organisms can be given an altered evolutionary trajectory.
Over sufficient time, this could create:
a new species.
This would require a massive ritual rather than casual spellcasting.
37. Information Duplication
The caster can duplicate informational structures.
Possible targets:
skills
magical techniques
abilities
evolutionary blueprints
magical knowledge
This becomes especially powerful when combined with Spirit Magic.
Evolution copies the information.
Spirit copies the consciousness and memories.
38. Information Extraction
The opposite of Information Duplication.
The caster can extract specific informational structures from a target.
For example:
Extract a magical ability.
This is extremely dangerous and requires overwhelming superiority or the target's cooperation.
39. Ability Suppression
Instead of enhancing information, the caster rewrites it downward.
An opponent's:
Strength → reduced.
Mana capacity → reduced.
Magical efficiency → reduced.
Resistance → reduced.
This is essentially the Evolution equivalent of a debuff.
40. Evolutionary Reset
Returns a target's informational structure to an earlier developmental configuration.
For example:
Advanced magical ability → basic form.
It isn't Restoration Magic because the target isn't being returned to a past temporal state.
The caster is restoring an older informational configuration.
41. Adaptive Overdrive
The caster's body continuously rewrites itself in response to threats.
If attacked with:
Fire → develop fire resistance.
Then:
Lightning → develop electrical resistance.
Then:
Poison → develop toxin resistance.
The process becomes increasingly powerful the longer the battle continues.
The danger is informational instability.
42. Perfect Adaptation
The theoretical perfected form of Adaptive Overdrive.
The caster can analyze a phenomenon and generate the informational requirements necessary to resist it.
However, there is a critical limitation:
The caster must possess enough information about the phenomenon to evolve against it.
43. Mana System Rewrite
One of the highest-level techniques.
The caster modifies the information governing their magical capacity.
Potential effects:
increase mana capacity
increase mana regeneration
improve mana efficiency
create new mana pathways
change magical affinities
remove magical limitations
This is one of the techniques that could allow Ben to transcend normal wizarding limitations.
44. Magical Evolution
The caster applies Evolution Magic directly to another magical system.
This can include:
Ancient Magic
conventional wizarding magic
magical artifacts
magical creatures
magical technology
For example:
Creation Magic → Advanced Creation Magic
or:
Spatial Magic → Advanced Spatial Magic
The spell effectively upgrades the information defining the magic itself.
45. Ancient Magic Evolution
An exceptionally dangerous technique.
The caster can evolve another Ancient Magic beyond its natural limitations.
For example:
Gravity Magic → greater planetary influence.
Spatial Magic → greater dimensional authority.
Restoration Magic → deeper temporal access.
Spirit Magic → more sophisticated soul manipulation.
This requires enormous amounts of knowledge and mana.
46. Evolutionary Domain
The caster establishes a field in which information itself becomes malleable.
Within the domain, the caster can continuously:
enhance allies
suppress enemies
adapt themselves
analyze abilities
optimize spells
It effectively turns the battlefield into a constantly changing informational ecosystem.
47. Information Singularity
A forbidden Master technique.
The caster compresses an enormous quantity of informational data into a single magical structure.
Potentially allowing them to contain:
thousands of skills
enormous magical knowledge
countless evolutionary blueprints
complex magical systems
The danger is that the caster's mind may be unable to process the resulting information.
48. Genesis Evolution
The pinnacle of Evolution Magic.
The caster takes an existing system and asks:
"What is the highest form this thing could become?"
Then they rewrite its information accordingly.
A human could become the highest possible form of that human's evolutionary pathway.
A magical creature could reach its ultimate evolutionary stage.
A spell could reach its perfected form.
An Ancient Magic could reach a higher tier of expression.
But the spell still cannot violate Conceptual Law.
Evolution can determine:
what something can become.
Conceptual Magic determines:
what reality allows it to become.
