[Day-15 (06:00)]
Aurora's eyes fluttered open. The first thing she felt was the dull ache in her ribs, the lingering exhaustion that seemed to settle deep in her bones. The second thing she felt was Kane's presence-he sat in the chair beside her bed, exactly where he'd been when she lost consciousness.
"You're awake," Kane said, his voice low.
"How long?" Aurora asked, her throat dry and raw.
"Six hours," Kane replied. "You pushed yourself too far."
Aurora tried to sit up, but her body screamed in protest. Every muscle felt like it had been put through a meat grinder. "The operation-"
"Is on hold," Kane said firmly, gently pushing her back against the pillows. "Until you're strong enough."
She shook her head, ignoring the waves of dizziness. "We don't have time to wait. Larson has the room footage. Thirty-seven hours until your interview."
"And we'll use every hour of it," Kane said. "But not if you collapse again. You look like you wrestled a grizzly bear and lost."
