Aurora set her tablet aside and swung her legs over the side of the hospital bed. The movement sent sharp pain through her ribs - a reminder that she was still healing from the warehouse. Kane stood by the window, watching her with the careful stillness he'd developed since she'd been hurt.
"You can't just disappear from a monitored room," Aurora said, her voice low but firm. "That would trigger immediate alerts. The nursing station logs every entry and exit."
Kane nodded. "What's the alternative?"
"Code blue emergency in west wing," Aurora said, already reaching for her phone. "Transfer patients to east wing. It creates legitimate cover for me to leave this floor without suspicion."
