Chapter 26 - I think we are in trouble

The scene of Anvil City as the Saints and the rest of the Awakened entered was absolutely horrifying.

Evening had fallen, and the city was plunged into darkness, the only source of light was the moon.

The stench of blood and dust rising from the ruins of buildings filled the air.

Crushed bodies lay scattered in every corner of the city, and the once abundant crops outside the walls had been transformed into pools of blood.

The houses were reduced to rubble, and Anvil looked like a maze filled with rubbles.

In every corner of the city, dozens of golems roamed, some trampling over corpses, others wandering aimlessly through the streets.

A group of golems had already begun moving toward the towns surrounding Anvil.

In less than two hours, 95% of Anvil's population had been killed, including its leaders and soldiers.

The remaining 5% fled toward nearby cities before the Golems could reach them.

In the southern part of the city, above its walls, stood a statue of a demon staring coldly at the people who had just entered the city he had destroyed.

It is extremely rare for a Chaos creature to take the form of a statue, as this is one of the hardest types for the Awakened to face.

And now, they were not just facing a statue—they were facing a demonic statue!

Saruman stood, watching the scene before him with rage.

He closed his eyes and grasped the staff he was leaning on. Its outer sheath shattered, revealing a long katana with a golden hilt and a gleaming white blade.

"We are late," Saruman said, his eyes brimming with sorrow at their delay. "I am truly sorry. May you all rest in peace."

Saruman talked the other saints, "We will use the ladders to climb the walls, cover our backs and kill the golems ahead of us."

"What about the rest of the golems heading towards the other cities?" Saint Jennifer asked .

"Don't worry," Saruman replied. "A number of the awakened elite have already begun moving towards them."

"I will go first," Leonard said, drawing dual swords tied behind his back and takes a step forward.

Dozens of golems sensed Leonard's movement and hurried towards him.

Leonard looked at them with pity, reversed his grip on his swords, and charged.

One golem swung its fist down towards Leonard's head, but in the blink of an eye, Leonard spun like a tornado, destroying dozens of golems.

Behind him, Lamar easily cleared the path ahead with her scythe, sometimes cutting down golems and other times smashing the broken houses blocking their way.

Park, as usual, kept his hands in his pockets, while Saruman and the others did nothing.

Leonard and Lamar cleared the way for them to reach the ladders.

Saruman, Leonard, Park, and Lamar climbed the stairs to face the statue, while the other Saints spread out to cover the city's corners.

The rest of the Awakened also dispersed in different directions, surrounding as much area as possible to take down the Golems.

Then Saruman and the others reached the top and began to move slowly along the long, circular wall toward the demonic statue, which watched them with cold eyes.

The four Saints realized from the moment they entered the city that this creature was strong.

None of them acted recklessly, but moved slowly and cautiously toward the creature.

"This thing is cautious, don't you feel that?" Park said, looking at the statue that stood far away in front of them.

Leonard replied, "Yes, he seems intelligent, he didn't charge at us recklessly and he's cautious of us as well."

"Not only that, but he seems like he knew we were coming here. Isn't it strange that he hasn't left the city yet?"

Saruman nodded in agreement. "He has enough power to sense our presence from afar… what a terrifying thing!"

Park sighed, saying, "A Statue-class Demon, yet fully conscious. What an annoying enemy"

The demon shifted its massive body toward them, preparing for their approach.

Lamar raised her scythe, and black smoke began rising from its blade, as she asked, "So… what's the plan?"

Park pulled his hands from his pockets and cracked his fingers, his body transforming entirely into titanium. "We kill it. That's the plan!"

Saruman raised his katana high, his expression dark and angry. "Watch out for his movements!"

The katana ignited, releasing purple smoke and purple liquid fell from it made the ground beneath him melts.

Leonard grinned "I'm going to enjoy this night."

Then he put on a black skull mask that emitted a black aura, while his dual swords trembled as if they wanted to cut that creature.

Everyone on the wall was ready to face this demon...

-----------------------------

Meanwhile, the other Saints, along with some of the Awakened, were fulfilling their duty, slaying hundreds of Golems one by one.

"How many of them are there, for heaven's sake?!" Saint Sumo grumbled , raising his bow and shooting arrow after arrow.

His arrows were fast, glowing with white light, and whenever one struck a Golem, it shattered completely into pieces.

Suddenly, a strong shiver ran through him. "Huh… what is this feeling?"

Jennifer leaned against a rock to rest, gripping her giant hammer. "Ah… I'm tired."

Then her eyes widened, looking up. "This thing… it's terrifying!"

Orusawa smiled, was enjoying tearing golems to pieces with his string-like ability.

"Looks like Leonard is going to have a rough time," he grinned.

Saint Victor folded his hands. "May the gods forgive your sins."

He then moved his hand, and a giant Buddha hands appeared, slapping the Golems in front of him and crushing them easily.

Suddenly, he frowned and looked upward. "I pray the gods to protects you, my friends."

The other three Saints felt the same, shiviring all at once.

A chill ran through their bodies as the demonic statue began to move.

-----------------------------

Lamar's forehead dripped with sweat as she was looking at the statue that stayed calm in front of them,

"Are you guys sure that this thing is just a demon?"

It seemed they had been mistaken...

This creature in front of them wasn't just an ordinary demonic statue.

Its power was only one level below the fourth-tier chaos creatures, known as the Fallen Angels, which only one had ever been defeated in human history.

Although the gap between this demon and the Fallen Angel was huge, a demon like this was already far too dangerous for just four saints to handle.

Leonard laughed nervously. "Hahaha… sorry, I think we are in trouble."

This creature was an Archdemon...
